About this audiobook
Inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine, this powerful debut novel reveals an incredible story of love, redemption, and terrible secrets that were hidden for decades.
New York socialite Caroline Ferriday has her hands full with her post at the French consulate and a new love on the horizon. But Caroline's world is forever changed when Hitler's army invades Poland in September 1939-and then sets its sights on France.
An ocean away from Caroline, Kasia Kuzmerick, a Polish teenager, senses her carefree youth disappearing as she is drawn deeper into her role as courier for the underground resistance movement. In a tense atmosphere of watchful eyes and suspecting neighbors, one false move can have dire consequences.
For the ambitious young German doctor, Herta Oberheuser, an ad for a government medical position seems her ticket out of a desolate life. Once hired, though, she finds herself trapped in a male-dominated realm of Nazi secrets and power.
The lives of these three women are set on a collision course when the unthinkable happens and Kasia is sent to Ravensbrück, the notorious Nazi concentration camp for women. Their stories cross continents-from New York to Paris, Germany, and Poland-as Caroline and Kasia strive to bring justice to those whom history has forgotten.
In Lilac Girls, Martha Hall Kelly has crafted a remarkable novel of unsung women and their quest for love, freedom, and second chances. It is a story that will keep listeners bonded with the characters, searching for the truth, until the final moments.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book. Well written, very emotional. The narration was also done very well. Quite worth a listen.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The story of these women’s lives is awesome! At one time I had to turn off because I was so involved with a disturbing part that I had to regroup and continue later. So real. And the women r real. Real heroes...each in their own way. Highly recommend.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a stunning piece of historical fiction. The author leaves you with answers and a full heart after a tumultuous journey.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a story! Such a difficult topic and some parts of the book were hard to listen to. The writing is very descriptive and kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Solid historical fiction. Insight into a character who made a real contribution to war victims of whom we know very little. Found the character and plot development solid but lost my interest with overlong descriptions at several points along the way. But overall worth the time to get up close to a few real-life hero’s.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Incredible story following three women. Each perspective is done very well. It's a definite must read for historical fiction.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent loved how the lives of the characters were brought to life! This is a book that should be read today so as not to forget anything about the atrocities this generation endured!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was beautifully read. Loved the fact that it was based on fact. Written with compassion and empathy and obviously an enormous amount of research.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful book. I found it hard to get into but once on my way I could not stop listening. The characters are great, excellently developed I felt I knew them so well. It is an amazing read about times we must not ever forget and how people can be turned to do vile things and even think they were right. Also how some can rise above and find love out of mind crushing hate. And how some people are just good generous and determined to help across the world making our lives better. Great read

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I'm from Poland and sadly I couldn't deal with the language inaccuracies and overall cultural dissonance. Would it be so hard to check with any native language speaker if the language references you make are correct?
