      Average fair....Karen Friedman's husband, Charles, a high-end investment broker, has supposedly died in a bombing on the train gong to work. On the one year anniversary of the crash, she sees him leaving the scene. Helping her is Ty Hauck, the local detective involved in the case.

      Having never read Andrew Gross, I wasn't sure what to expect. The author sets the mood, storyline and characters very quickly. I was completely absorbed. However, it was a little slow in places where the characters were over thinking too much. The ending was too pat and unnecessary. I would have ended it long before the author did. Overall, the book was an enjoyable read and I am considering reading other books by this author.

      This is my first advance copy review, so here goes...Read The Dark Tide by Andrew Gross this week. It was a pretty good if predictable suspense novel. It was timely, involving mentions and connections to 9/11 and the emotions that time still evokes in us. Interesting in the mentions of high finance, hedge funds and and the shenanigans people with real money can get up to. Good follow through on clues earlier in the book and wraps up well. But no real surprises if you have read many suspense novels and know the formula. The writing was good, easy to read and interesting. With some better plot twists it would of been outstanding. Definitely an author I would watch for in the future and would read again.

      I do love a mystery. This book by Mr gross had all the elements to make it a good read and difficult to put aside. It contained suspense, intrigue and an exciting story line. I will definitely recommend it to my friends. [I apologize for this delay with my review]

      I like to think of some books as “magnet books.” You put it down, but it keeps pulling you back. The Dark Tide was a magnet for me. You know what’s basically going to happen early on, but you want to enjoy the ride to see how all the characters, dead bodies, cars, boats, get to the end. Although, I did feel like I was sitting in the backseat of the Mustang rather than the front with the main characters. Magnet pull wasn’t as strong for them. But, if you like a good story, nice easy read, this book ride is a smooth one.

      The Dark Tide was a Kindle free download and I’m a sucker for a mystery/thriller. I had never read Andrew Gross, but now will look for more from him.I enjoyed the book a lot. It was engaging from the start and held my interest all the way through. The characters were very well developed and I didn’t have to suspend common sense too often over their actions. I found police Lt. Ty Hauck to have the quality I expect in a detective… he just can’t let things go, especially when it’s an attractive widow and her kids that need his help. Then throw in a few unsavory bad guys, some international intrigue and vast sums of missing money and you have a fast paced thriller. I searched and found two more books with Ty Hauck as the protagonist; they are certainly on my To Read list. The one drawback, it wasn’t as much of a mystery for the readers as for the characters, but that was okay.

      I knew Andrew Gross only from his work with James Patterson - which I've enjoyed. This book was not a disappointment. It's a fast-paced page-turner which I read in less than a week (which says a lot since I don't get much time to read lately!)I'd recommend it to mystery lovers anywhere - especially those who like the short chapters and fast-paced writing in the tradition of Patterson.

      I just finished reading The Red Tide by Andrew Gross. I enjoyed it very much. His books are always worth reading especially when he writes with James Patterson. I thought that this book was even better than his first one. I would recommend it to new and old readers. I always look forward to new books by him. He is one of my favorite authors.

      The Dark Tide is a very good book!! Andrew Gross is one of the better authors I have read, and hope he keeps coming out with books as good as this one. There were really no "slow" spots, and kept me interested the whole way thru. Also, thank you to the "Early Reviewers" for sending me the book!!

      When Charles Friedman is killed in a terrorist attack, his widow Karen is left to sort out their lives. Karen soon realizes that her husband wasn't the man she thought he was. When Detective Ty Hauck comes to question her about a seemingly unrelated hit and run that happened a few hours after her husband's death, Karen and Ty are drawn into a web of power, dishonesty and murder. I enjoyed this book a lot. I was involved as soon as I started to read. Gross weaves a intriging web and snares his readers from word go. I actually liked this book better than his collaborations with James Patterson. I will definatly look for his first solo novel and am looking forward to his next.

      I found the book to be a very enjoyable and quick read. It was well written and I truly enjoyed the characters. My only concern is that if you prefer books that are truly suspenseful (where you can't tell the good guys from the bad guys), you will probably be disappointed by this book. I found the ending a bit disappointing.

      I got this as an early reviewer book. I was very pleased to get it since I am a big James Patterson fan. What a page turner! I stayed up way too late reading. I plan on adding Andrew Gross's first book, The Blue Zone as a must read. Very enjoyable. I have already recommended this to several of my friends who are James Patterson fans.

      Front the inside flap: An explosion rips through New York City’s Grand Central Station one morning destroying the train Karen Friedman’s husband, a successful hedge fund manger is riding in to work.

      As a regular commuter to New York City, someone who takes the train into Grand Station every day, I have to say, its not a station, its a terminal. Look it up on the website. That being said, (yeah I know, a little OCD of me) now for my review of the book.

      On the front of this book is a quote “The Dark Tide takes off like a rocket and doesn’t slow down until the final, shocking twist.” –Joseph Finder, New York Times bestselling author of Power Play and Killer Instinct

      I don’t exactly agree with this statement. I felt the beginning was kind of slow, even with the explosion and a hit and run, the possible connection between the two. I felt like I was a little bird being feed bread crumbs, following along a path, and then, OH LOOK! There are cookie crumbs on that other path. So I start down this path, then I look at the other path and I notice, hey those bread crumbs are from cinnamon toast, I love cinnamon toast! But then, there are chocolate cake crumbs on that third path over there!

      That is The Dark Tide was to me a gradual increase in speed as I tried to gather all the information from each story line and then they all started to come together into a big pile of crumbs but I knew, I knew I just shouldn’t dive right in. Danger Will Robinson!

      Also the final shocking twist wasn’t that much of a shock to me, from different clues in the book, I had a feeling about who one the major bad guys was and I was right. All in all I enjoyed this book, I felt it had a believable plot and good character development. I might even read another one if I can fit it into one of my challenges.

      Good mystery thriller - tracking several "accidents" which were connected and a dead man who might not be.

      A little too much of the love story aspect for me. But an interesting, quick read.

      This story grips you from page one and the ride continues all the way through. Part mystery, part thriller, this book will have you unable to put it it down. Definitely worth reading.

      This action novel has a plot chock-full of homages to previous events and thrillers. The book utilizes a thinly veiled recast of 9/11 to kick into gear a series of events, and includes allusions to John Grisham's The Firm. If you take The Firm and replace the mafia with modern-day hedge fund billionaires and kick it off with 9/11, mix in a little Tarantino's Jackie Brown, and you'll have an idea of how the book is laid out. Gross does a passable job writing a female lead and his glimpse of brilliance is his repeated theme of parenthood and the magnitude of parents' relationships with their children. Accomplishing this in the midst of a mystery thriller is no small feat. It's a bit slow to start, but once the reader hits page 80 or 100 don't expect to give up on this one.

      Pretty decent read. The plot was compelling, but really needed to be tightened up a bit. The book was just too long and I just wanted to get through it at one point even more than I wanted to know how it would end. The characters were also pretty two-dimensional. The author does give the two main characters a back story, but the characterizations are very superficial. All in all, I felt that the book had a lot of potential, but didn't quite live up to that potential.

      Holy crap, was this book bad! Like 'terrible' bad! And the strange thing is, is that it really didn't start out that way. I remember being 30% into the book and being extremely mad that my bus wasn't a bit later since I had to put it down. Cut to me at 60% and I started thinking "Why am I STILL reading this?!" In fact, the only reason I finished it was because by that time I was already 60% in and thinking "What the hell. I need a long-ish book to up my page average..." My main gripe with The Dark Tide was that it was boring. After the first initial 30%, it just started going downhill. I seriously didn't want to pick the book up after that. I kept thinking "And I care why?" Yes, it was incredibly snarky of me, but my God, I was bored! That should excuse my snarkalicious behavior shouldn't it? Speaking of snark: the romance. Sigh. By the way, that wasn't a good "OMG, they are incredibly cute" sigh, but rather "WHY is a romance even being written in this book!" sigh. I have seen many a mystery ruined because the author thought it was imperative to put a romance into the mix just so the book blurb could read "Intrigue, Espionage, and ROMANCE! This book has it all!" And normally, what it has isn't good. Sure, there are exceptions. Dennis Lehane's Kenzie & Gennaro series is fantastic (the romance is actually my favorite part of the series) and Jennifer Lane's With Good Behavior did the whole romance suspense thing beautifully, but those are about the only ones. The Dark Tide didn't. At all. These two are madly in love after seeing each other like three times throughout the year she's supposed to be mourning her husband and they're already in love. In fact, she gives him that part of herself that she's always kept hidden even from her husband of 24 years. Blach! What is that part supposed to be? Shallowness? Annoyingness? Seriously, I'm dying to know. Only I'm not. Not really. Needless to say, I did NOT like The Dark Tide. It was superficial, cliche, and oh my GOD was it BORING! I'm just so incredibly happy that it was a free Kindle pre-order and I didn't waste any money on it. Besides that, SKIP IT!

      When Charlie Friedman dies in a subway explosion, his wife Karen is devasted. It takes Karen and her children time to deal with the grief. When Karen thinks are just starting to become normal again 2 men show up at her house claiming her husband stole 250 million dollars and they want it back. Her daughter is harassed at school by a man claiming they want their money back. Lt. Ty Hauck from the Greewich police department knows he must help Karen find out whats going on. The deeper they dig into Karens husband past they find he was involved in alot of corruption and alot of missing money. This is a very fast paced book with a very high dead body count. Fans of James Patterson will enjoy this. I found the book entertaining but honestly didn't care for the main character of Karen very much.

      This book hooked me from the beginning...kept my interest throughout. The characters were engaging and the plot was superb. A smooth, fairly light read... just when I started to get a bit bleary eyed near the end, a surprise got me right back in again.This is the story of a happily married woman, whose world falls apart on a typical, average morning, when her husband decides to take the car in for repairs. An explosion rocks the subway later that morning, and a train that she suddenly realizes her husband had taken to work, after dropping off the car, is one that has been obliterated in the explosion. Later, she realizes her husband has perished in the tragic event.....or has he?As the story unfolds, surprising things happen and Karen discovers more about her husband than she ever wanted to know....he had a very secret life that she knew nothing about. With the help of a detective named Ty Hauck, they delve into the mystery of Charles Friedman. Offshore accounts, deception, safe-deposit boxes full of money....murder. Karen soon realizes that her life and the lives of her 2 children may be at risk as she tries to learn if her husband is actually alive and hiding somewhere, as she believes. The story flows smoothly for the most part, bogs down a bit near the end, but then picks up again shortly before the conclusion.There were some errors and typos that I caught, but I'm sure they will be taken care of before the final printing.Overall, a very good second novel by a promising writer. I plan on seeking out his first book, and will also be on the watch for novel #3 in the future.

As I am a fan of James Patterson’s books, I was anticipating this author Andrew Gross to tell a very good story and in an exciting way.Right off the bat this book engages the reader and holds your interest from the explosive beginning to the terrifying end. We all dread the thought of not saying a good “good bye” to our loved ones. Karen Friedman says farewell to her husband who decides at the last minute to take his car in for repairs and take the train instead to work. Later on in the day, it finally becomes clear to her that her husband is on the train that has just exploded. Her husband is gone…and her life changes.Within a short time, Karen is threatened by two men and becomes very confused at what or who Charles Friedman was involved with. Is her husband really dead?With the assistance of Ty Hauck, a local detective following the leads of another case, they join forces to solve the mystery of Charles Friedman.This book is recommended for those who like a thrilling mystery and I look forward to Andrew Gross’s next book.

Karen is threatened by two men looking for a large amount of unaccounted money. Then on the anniversary of the bombing she's watching a news recapsule and sees her husband leaving the train station covered with ash.Finally, Karen's daughter is threatened and Karen asks Ty for help in finding where her husband is hiding and why.Gross does a fantastic job with his story. His talent toward building suspense and keeping the action going is unsurpassed. The characters were well drawn although I question Charlie's motivation in his decision making.My heart was racing so much in reading this story that I thought I'd need medication.Highly Recommended. Should have won the award for "Best Thriller of the Year."
