About this audiobook
A fascinating account of the journey towards number 10 Downing street read by Lady Thatcher.
Margaret Thatcher's government was, she says, about the application of a philosophy, not the implementation of an administrative programme. These ideas and beliefs were propelled throughout her time in office by a forcefulness and conviction, particularly in critical moments in her premiership - the Falklands War, the miner's strike, the Brighton bomb and her three election victories. In the second volume of her memoirs, following "The Downing Street Years", she reveals the inspiration behind many of her philosophies. She discusses the formative years of her childhood in Grantham, the values she learnt at home, the profound influence of her shopkeeeping father, and of her own schooling on future Conservative education policies. She recounts her days at Oxford, her academic work as a scientist, marriage to Dennis, and the beginning of her career as a politician when in 1959 she was selected to stand at Finchley.
Margaret Thatcher
Born in 1925, Margaret Thatcher rose to become the first woman to lead a major Western democracy. She won three successive general elections and served as prime minister for more than eleven years, from 1979 to 1990, a record unmatched in the twentieth century.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Terrible transfer. The last hour of the book seemed to be a completely different book. From winning the 1979 election, to her leaving office in 1990 in a few secoonds. Is that right? Absolutely nothing about Thatcher's three terms in office but an hour of her talking aboit Major, Europe, the fall of the USSR and the Balkans war?!
The first three quarters of the book were fine, if over simplified and a decent narration from the Iron Lady.
Edit. Just realised that this is an abridged version and probanly explains the uneven tone. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved it!
I'm not sure why it took me so long to take a look at the Iron Lady, which I would have preferred stands for just the Iron Leader! Principled, conservative and classic liberal, focused on self sufficiency and small government rather than this behemoth that the left aspires for to take over all aspects of private lives with dismal outcomes. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome this IRON LADY . If you like history it s worth listening
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great perspective on the process and pitfalls of political leadership. Loved it!
