Now, everyone’s favourite girl detective is back for a second mind-blowing instalment, packed with all the off-the-wall humour, action and friendship of the first book. This time, though, it’s an adventure on the wide open ocean, and Ruby is all at sea… Can she crack the case of the Twinford pirates while evading the clutches of a vile sea monster as well as the evil Count von Viscount? Well, you wouldn’t want to bet against her…

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Ruby was first introduced in the Clarice Beans novels. Ruby is a detective, but I see her more as a spy-in-training. Strange things are happening in Twinford, where Ruby and her parents live. Sea creatures are acting strangely, oceans currents are changing, and the Twinford pirates have been attacking ships. What's a young spy and codebraker to do -- Why jump right in and solve the case. Ruby is adventurous and a master of misdirection when it comes to getting in her spy training. The book is a delight to read and at the same time shows a 13 year-old who is smart and cool and who doesn't need foul language to make a point. I look forward to reading other books in the series.
