About this audiobook

An immortal assassin is caught between desire and duty in this sizzling novel from Kresley Cole’s #1 New York Times bestselling Immortals After Dark series.

A foundling raised in a world of humans
Growing up, Josephine didn’t know who or what she was—just that she was an outcast with strange powers. Protecting her baby brother became her entire life. The day he was taken away began Jo’s transition from would-be superhero…to enchanting villain.

A lethally sensual enforcer on a mission
Archer Rune the Baneblood never fails to eliminate his target. In his sights: the oldest living Valkyrie. Yet before he strikes, a vampiric creature pierces him with aching pleasure, stealing his forbidden blood—and jeopardizing his brethren’s secrets.

A boundless passion that will lead to sweet ruin…
Could this exquisite female be a spy sent by the very Valkyrie he hunts? When Jo betrays the identity of the one man she will die to protect, she and Rune become locked in a treacherous battle of wills that pits ultimate loyalty against unbridled lust.

The narration gave life to the characters. Great story of redemption, love and the satisfaction of revenge.

I really enjoyed this book until close to the end. I feared that it was going to turn into a morality tale, and was right. This mid-30's mother is in a slump for many reasons and the "boy" across the street's attention starts to bring her back to life. She resists because she is "happily" married and adores her daughter. When she finally does give in, something happens to her daughter that wouldn't have if she had been where she felt she "should" have been, but was too preoccupied with cutie pie across the street. Now she has to try to repair the damage she has done.Don't get me wrong. I don't applaud adultery. I don't think that anyone walks around thinking that adultery is a good life decision. However, life happens and it can get messy. Things aren't always black and white. I don't think that someone or their child should necessarily be punished for making a choice. That being said, the ending of the book just bothered me. Blech.

I didn't like this book but finished it just to see what would happen. I felt little sympathy for the wife, I wanted to smack the husband, the grandfather made ME feel dirty and I felt like the six year old manner of speaking was more like a 12 year old. And the 20-something neighbor I kept picturing as Kevin Connolly on Entourage don't ask me why. I was glad when it was over.

This was fun. I especially enjoyed the road trip feel of the hero and heroine working together (eventually, =D) to try to solve a problem. And that the heroine was quite strong. This one set up a new group of characters, which I'm cool with, but I kind of missed interacting all that much with the ones we already knew. A fair bit of other woman/other man drama, I know some people eat that up and others strongly avoid it. The heroine is on the immature side (with some fair reason) but I tend to not connect as much with those heroines. And the hero is a major player/rake. Overall they had some good chemistry together though.

I normally don't like to read books out of order, but I started reading the excerpt that was in the back of A Hunger Like No Other and I was totally hooked. I just couldn't help myself. Josephine was sassy and awesome. Love the name Rune and he was just yummy and my favorite kind of bad boy turned good. Plot was ok, but loved the romance. What a fun and addicting read.

I really liked this, and in a lot of ways I liked Jo, but I actually think Rune makes a solid case for non-monogamy, or at the very least, why the partners of sex workers shouldn't be jealous jerks. And his comments about Jo ignoring his words and believing what she wanted to believe (and being pretty manipulative) are pretty on point. Does this make me a dude? I think I'd rather be like that than be like stereotype of a woman to be honest.

Actually 4.5 Stars out of 5. The only think I didn't like was the short ending. Cliff hanger much? But honesty, ughhh the romance makes me jelly ❤️❤️❤️

I love Jo's spunk and persistence but I honestly don't get the 180 turn that happens in her mind when she suddenly believes she's Rune's mate.

I was kind of turned off after the first chapter, but was so satisfied when I finished the book. It makes sense that the story started out sort of dark; all of the Immortals after Dark characters have some issues to work through and Jo and Rune are no different. I really liked how sex didn't solve all their problems, as sometimes happens in paranormal romance. The sex scenes were smokin' hot, but I also found the relationship believable and touching. Nix was bad ass as usual, pulling the strings of everyone who foolishly underestimates her. The story line advances the Accession plot and introduces the reader to some more of the Lore. This book just hit all the bases for me.

Sweet Ruin is the second Kresley Cole book I've read and I enjoyed it very much. Ruin is an Archer and a spy for the Morior. Jo doesn't know what she is, just that she came back from the dead and only eats blood, but has other strange powers that vampires don't normally have. The two collide in New Orleans where Ruin is after Nix, a seer, who also happens to have Thaddeus, Jo's brother. They are a very engaging couple, outwardly brash, but secretly with a lot of issues because of their pasts. They're a good match and the story moves right along in a good read if you like paranormal romance.

Sweet Ruin by Kresely Cole- An Immortals After Dark Novel- is a 2015 Gallery Books publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher as an XOXpert, the official street team of XOXO After Dark. The wait is finally over! The hotly anticipated new release in the wildly popular Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole is here!! All year, I have been trying to catch up with the series, because I knew this book was coming. I was so far behind, though, that I never got caught up before the release of “Sweet Ruin”. However, I was pleased to discover that it is not necessary to have read all the other installments to enjoy this book. Josephine is orphaned, caring for her younger brother, Thaddeus, while trying to survive on the streets. But, Jo goes through a big change, and ends up leaving her brother behind, but she longs to reunite with him, and continues to watch over him, as she lives her new life as ghostly vampire, not understanding fully what kind of creature she is or what her history is. Rune the Baneblood meets up with Josephine while on a mission to kill the oldest Valkyrie. Instantly, he knows he has met his match, but doesn’t understand who she is or what she is or where her loyalties lie. As the two tests the waters of their relationship, they forge an unshakeable bond and become a kind of dynamic duo. But, Rune’s painful past could be their undoing, if he can’t relinquish his bad habits. One thing about Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series that stands out is the author’s incredible imagination and her ability to draw her readers into a rich fantasy world full of amazing creatures and beings. The other thing is how this series always manages to take on new dimensions, go in new directions, and branch out into never ending possibilities. Few series have that capacity, and this speaks to the author’s talent as a writer. Never one to rest too long in one place, Ms. Cole keeps the reader guessing, the material fresh, but, still manages to please long term fans and bring in a whole new audience all at once. I have to admit though, that I did feel a little puzzled by this one, with the introduction of all new characters and new realms. But, once I got started, I found it to be refreshing, and the more I read, the more excited I was about it and I suppose it helped a little that I didn’t have any specific expectations about the book beforehand. While the story does not have some the darker undertones I’ve become used to with this series, the hero is one of my favorite types. Rune is flawed, filled with self -doubt, and doesn’t hold himself in high regard. Jo, becomes important enough to him that when push comes to shove, he manages to pull his head out and do the right thing, but you will be on the edge of your seat as he goes through some situations that will make you want to cover your eyes or scream at him. Jo was an interesting character study too, and I had to laugh at her vernacular on occasion. Her story is compelling and is certainly interesting. I ended up really liking her. Rune and Jo together are fire and ice and their attraction is too hot to handle sometimes, and while past chapters in the series have been quite steamy, this one seemed even more sensual that usual, since Rune and Jo can't seem to keep their hands off one another. With that said, I did miss some to the action and adventure with this one, which seemed less prevalent, this time around. Overall, this one took me by surprise, a little bit, but I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to more installments centered around this new cast of characters, even if it is very different from the atmosphere I have grown accustomed to. However, I do think this is a wise move for the author to make, and will broaden the scope for the continuation of the series. I can’t wait to see how it will play out in the long run. 4 stars

Great read! This latest installment centers around Josephine (Jo) and Rune the Baneblood. While yes they are both Lorean, they are bit of an odd couple. I wasn't too sure about them at first but it in the end they were pretty perfect for each other . Rune radiates everything sexiness and Jo, she grows on you. I am eager to read Nix and other characters stories, but it was refreshing to be introduced to some new characters. Once again Kresley Cole delivers and Sweet Ruin is a must read.
