About this audiobook

From the #1 internationally bestselling author of The Demonologist, called “smart, thrilling, utterly unnerving” by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, comes a spine-tingling supernatural thriller.

Danny Orchard died on his sixteenth birthday—and so did his twin sister, Ashleigh—but Danny came back. He wrote a bestselling memoir about his experience of Heaven called The After, but despite his fame and fortune he’s never been able to enjoy his second chance at life.

His sister won’t let him.

Charming, magnetic, and manipulative in life, Ash appeared perfect to outsiders but privately terrorized her family, and that didn’t stop her from continuing to terrorize them after her death. She has haunted Danny for twenty years and now, just when he’s met the love of his life and has a chance at a real family, Ash is more determined than ever to keep her brother all to herself.

Danny has been to Heaven. In order to silence his sister once and for all, he’ll have to meet her in a different realm. Which means, he has to die one more time before he can go on living.

While this audiobook initially had potential, its melancholy "woe is me" storyline quickly became agonous. Add to it the narrator's flat, depressed and monotonous tone and you have all of the ingredients of this tragic audiobook that never reached its potential. I did not give this story one star because I continued to listen to it, which tells me that I am either a masochist or there must have been something there... Still, in the end I felt only relief that the misery was over and the innate desire to assist the narrator in obtaining a referral for a psychiatrist. Seriously, folks, someone pass the Prozac PLEASE!

This started out interestingly enough. It could have been a GREAT book. I wish it had and expected much more. I was glad for the protagonist finding some happiness. I just thought he'd fight harder for some normalcy. Things got pretty weird until the end.

I really liked this audiobook. I am an avid listener and it’s been a while since I have found a book to keep me in my car those few extra minutes. I would recommend it.

This book includes events over a vast period of time and it's done well. When the author is telling the story of how the twin sister died in a fire, we only get one point of view, leaving unanswered questions. As events in the story are told, the brother learns things about his sister he never knew in life. It is from these events and experiences told to him witnesses he learns just how truly evil and psychopathic his twin was in life and still is in death. Once the sisters death is told a second time from a different point of view, the reader learns the truth of true evil and mislaid distain of others. Recommend and enjoyed the read!
