About this audiobook

Jane's not happy. She's been packed off to England to fight in a war when she'd much rather be snogging Anyan. Unfortunately, Jane's enemies have been busy stirring up some major trouble-the kind that attracts a lot of attention. In other words, they're not making it easy for Jane to get any alone time with the barghest, or to indulge in her penchant for stinky cheese.

Praying she can pull off a Joan of Arc without the whole martyrdom thing, Jane must lead Alfar and halflings alike in a desperate battle to combat an ancient evil. Catapulted into the role of Most Unlikely Hero Ever, Jane also has to fight her own insecurities as well as the doubts of those who don't think she can live up to her new role as Champion.

Along the way, Jane learns that some heroes are born. Some are made. And some are bribed with promises of food and sex.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: Sometimes saving the world takes a magical ax and sometimes it takes getting opposing sides to join up.Opening Sentence: It was times like this I wished Hallmark made a line of “So your supernatural daughter is going off to fight a supernatural war” cards, because I certainly didn’t know how to say that to my father. The Review:Crawling into Jane True’s world in book 5 was relatively painless. This story is rich with characters back story and enough movement that I didn’t feel bogged down from not reading the previous 4 books. However, I’m sure that I would feel more of a connection to all the characters if I knew their motivations, back story and even had a vision of what they looked like in my own head. So many times we invest parts of ourselves in stories that were written by skilled and talented authors, but unfortunately, I didn’t have that with this story and it did impact my level of engagement with the story.Ok, but enough beating around the bush, you want to know about our main characters. Jane True is a halfling selkie and has been chosen by the labrys, which is an ax only wielded by the Champion. Jane’s ability is control of water so she can do all sorts of magic with water. While Anyan is a barghest, which allows him to shift from man to a dog and his supernatural abilities allow him to manipulate earth and air when he is not making Jane long for his touch. The other main character in our story is Blondie or Cyntaf, and she is an Original supernatural with the ability to control and harness magic in a way that other supernatural beings only dream. Blondie was a Champion earlier in her life and she is helping to tutor Jane in all things about her role as the Champion. This is a world that was richly detailed in part because it relies on images most readers are going to have some knowledge of, like London and Paris which I think adds depth and grounds the story in a way that would otherwise be hard to accomplish. Due to the story being set in this world, the characters act very much as you or I would if we had super powers and were off to save the world. This was a refreshing change to paranormal stories because I felt Jane’s reluctance to be the Champion but her obligation and fear didn’t swallow her, but in the end motivated her.So with good always comes evil, the villains in this story range from Morrigan who is seeking to raise a terrible evil in Red Queen and White King. The Red and White are evils that have been destroyed and then put back together through out history and every time they come back destruction and chaos follow in their wake. I wasn’t to sure about Morrigan being evil enough but before I was half way through the book, I realized I was terribly wrong. She is enough evil for 10 super villains. So my final thoughts on this book are that you should definitely try this series out and if you are just wanting to jump right in then Tempest Fury is not a bad place to start. My only caveat is that make sure you have book 6 close at hand because this book does end in a HUGE cliff hanger. Thankfully for me, I got book 6 in to review about a week ago and I will be starting it at soon as I finish writing this review.Notable Scene:“Using the dating thing against me, eh?” He asked. I smiled against his pecs, wishing we were naked and biting but also knowing that how we were right now was how it should be.“Sorry, but I do think it’s a good idea,” I said, raising my eyes to meet his.“Don’t be. You’re right. And besides, this will be more fun.”“Fun?”“Yes, fun. This means that I get to work to seduce you.”“Ooh la la,” I said, raising my chin to kiss his freshly shaven jaw. Anyan let me kiss him, then he withdrew, looking down at me with a predatory little grin.“I’m serious, you. I admit, my seduction skills are a little rusty. But I’m going to look forward to getting you alone whenever I can, and making you want me. Eventually I’ll get you to where you’re begging. And then, little girl I’m going to show you what begging really means.”FTC Advisory: Orbit provided me with a copy of Tempest’s Fury. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

The Jane True series is consistent with its blend of humor, action, and sexy-times. I like Jane, and I like how she has grown from the first book when she was a broken being. Here, she's forced to take on the role of Champion with the lofty goal of saving the world; she's reluctant to take on the task, but at the same time she's strong enough to play the part without immediately dying (which would make for an awfully short book). Her adventures take her to London, York, and Paris, and it's great to see different locales used--and, since this is an urban fantasy, the settings are often also destroyed. I wasn't really feeling Jane's chemistry with Anyan in the previous book, but here it feels much stronger to me. Peeler always writes amusing and realistic sex scenes. The ending here is the first cliff hanger in the series. It drives me bonkers, but at the same time, wow, what a way to end the book so that I'm sure to buy the next.

The Jane True series is absolutely fantastic in my opinion. I have only a few sentences to say about TEMPEST"S FURY. It is safe to say that I am absolutely devastated by how TEMPEST'S FURY ends. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for TEMPEST REBORN to come out and hopefully put my broken heart out of its misery.

*Sigh* I don’t know where to begin. Let’s start with Ms Peeler you are a cruel, cruel writer. Ok I read all five books in this series one after the other, the first one was kinda ok but they kept getting better as I kept reading so I kept reading them. I wanted to know what shenanigans Jane was going to be up to next. Then with some trepidation I finally sat down to read Tempest’s Fury, dontcha hate it when you are at the last book written in a series? So this book sees Jane, Anyan and Blondie off to the UK to fight the big bad, and this time they are even bigger and badder than before. Jane has become The Champion and she must lead the supes against the Red and the White, but first she must convince them to fight and that’s no easy task. I think out of all the books in the series this one has the most action and that is saying a lot cuz the all have loads of action. This one just doesn’t have Jane’s life at stake, but the lives of everyone she cares about if she can’t pull a “Joan of Arc” and save the day. But the ending…oy vey, that was cruel to do to a reader but at least Jane and Anyan finally get their groove on.I love the character Jane she is very much the reluctant hero and knows she is waaaaaay out of her league most of the time. You can’t see how much she has grown from the loner she was to being surrounded by friends and people willing to fight for her. She is only 5’1, was an English major and has no combat skills whatsoever, but still she picks up the axe and wades in with not much skill but lots of snark. There is also an amazing supporting cast in Jane’s group of friends. This has quickly become one of my favorite series’ and I can’t believe I have to wait a year to have that mother of a cliff hanger resolved….curse you Ms Peeler.

This is the fifth book in the Jane True series by Peeler. The sixth (and final) book in this series, Tempest Reborn, is scheduled for a May 2013 release. This was an excellent read, I really enjoyed it a lot. The story is getting more and more epic, and Jane is really growing into her new powers.Jane and crew are forced to travel to London to face off with an ancient evil known as the Red and White. Jane will have to learn how to navigate the politics of European supernaturals as well as earn the trust of the local supernatural rebel group. Jane will also have to learn to wield her magical ax and her substantial magical power. If she can’t get everyone to work together and control her own power then London and the world at large will be at risk. Poor Jane, all she wanted was to do some sightseeing, spend time with Anyan, and eat some really stinky cheese....This was a great in installment in this series. Jane is finally growing into her power and she has been working hard to do this. It was great to see a heroine actually spending time training to use her power; I hate it when heroines just..bam!...suddenly understand how to use a power...especially when they are not super strong to begin with. Jane is nervous and reluctant about stepping up as a hero, but when push comes to shove she finds her metal. It was so fun to watch her grow as a character in this book. There is a lot of humor throughout, as with previous novels in this series. I continue to enjoy Jane’s internal arguments between her Virtue and Libido; they are just so quirky and so Jane. You have to adore Jane as a character; she quirky and funny and likable and dependable. The other characters are great too. Anyan is in this book a lot and we learn a ton more about his very long history. Blondie is in the book quite a bit more too and we learn more about her background as well. There are a bevy of new characters that join the story: some are from the European Supernatural leadership, some are European supernatural rebels. They are all decent characters and well done. I loved the mythos and history of the Red and White. The whole mythos is well thought out and interesting. The Red and White makes for an absolutely awesome enemy. The Red tends to take the form of a Dragon...so yes we do see Jane fighting a dragon in this novel which is so, so cool! There are some truly awesome battle scenes in this book and major landmarks in London take some serious damage. So what about Jane and Anyan? There are some very touching and sensual scenes featuring these two in the book. They start to get intimate and get interrupted a lot...to the point where I was frustrated for them. The scenes are well done and very sweet. I love that Jane is a one man woman. The story ends with an absolutely huge event that I immediately wanted to read more about. It was a great ending, a huge cliffhanger, and just absolutely awesome.Overall I really enjoyed this installment of the series, it was my favorite one yet. There are some awesome battle scenes, a wonderful mythos, humor, and great characters that are fun to read about. Jane has come so far from being the book store employee in Rockabill. I can’t wait to see what the sixth and final book brings to the series! Highly recommended for fans of humorous urban fantasy.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:allthingsuf.comBubbly, witty, and libido cranked to eleven, Jane True is my kind of hero. Though I missed reading EYE OF THE TEMPEST, I had no trouble catching up with both Jane and her furry leading man. TEMPEST’S FURY is definitely my favorite book of the series, shadowing Jane as she starts a new relationship and saves the world… more or less in that order. While many urban fantasy heroines find themselves in the position of being heroes, Jane is the first one I’ve read who has time to anticipate this role being thrust upon her. From axe lessons to rallying the troops, I enjoyed how Jane shoulders this burden. Even better, though the Red and White promise carnage on a global scale, I found dragons spewing fire and eating people easier to read than some of the more creeptacular villains from prior Jane True books. I enjoyed the build up to the big battle oh so much more when the bad guys weren’t so over the top evil that I wanted to reach in the pages and throttle them myself. TEMPEST’S FURY’s mix of political factions, petty power mongering, and murderous war lords made for a satisfying build up of tension, all the while balanced by Jane’s developing relationship. As much as I enjoyed Jane’s “hero bootcamp”, watching her and Anyan date in a warzone was equally fun. Peeler’s pacing of their stolen moments was very well done, neither artificially drawn out nor rushed. As Anyan was the only character I knew from prior books (having missed Blondie’s debut), his relationship with Jane was also the only one I trusted. This decreased the effectiveness of supporting characters, but my fascination with Anyan more than carried the day. And of course, this series doesn’t end with TEMPEST’S FURY. The battle against evil will continue in book 6, and Peeler has added a personal twist that will make this battle one of Jane’s most difficult. Though this book ends with a cliffhanger, Peeler prepares Jane for her greatest challenge yet.Sexual Content: Sex scenes.
