About this audiobook

From New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews comes a spirited audiobook about starting over and taking control of your life.

Eloise Foley, known to her friends as Weezie, has been through the divorce from hell. Her ex-husband Tal (aka Talmadge Evans III) was awarded their house in Savannah's historic district, the house that Weezie had spent years painstakingly restoring to its original splendor. Weezie was awarded the two-bedroom carriage house on the same property. Each was sure the other would sell. But Tal has taken up residence in the main house with his new girlfriend Caroline DeSantos (who never seems to perspire or have a hair out of place during the wilting Savannah summer), Weezie is running her antiques business out back, and neither will budge. She's also got a few loony relatives and a hunky former boyfriend to contend with, and if that's not enough, dirty deals aplenty wherever she turns.

In this town, where everybody knows everybody's business, something's got to give. Listeners will fall in love with the vivid setting and spunky characters in Savannah Blues.

It is disappointing that authors insist on using foul language and sexual drama to a plot that is already captivating.

In this first book of the series, we meet Weezie and BeBe, best friends. BeBe owns and runs a restaurant, Weezie is a “picker” who finds and deals in second-hand items, hoping someday to have her own shop. Waiting at night at the site of an estate sale, Weezie is desperate for a bathroom, and does the logical thing. She breaks into the estate, finding not only a bathroom, but also the very dead body of her ex-husband’s fiancée. She gets caught and arrested, but her Uncle James, a lawyer and ex-priest, is hard at work to clear her name. Set in Savannah, the heat and humidity practically seeps into the pages, even for those of us in the snowy northland. Weezie and BeBe are delightful characters, as is Daniel, Weezie’s new man in her life. Though the mystery of who killed Caroline is interesting, that storyline almost takes a backseat to the friendship between Weezie and BeBe, and Weezie’s growing fondness for Daniel. It’s a great southern story with all the right elements for an entertaining tale.

I loved the Callahan Garrity series by Mary Kay Andrews. The style and characters reminded me of Janet Evanovich and Stephanie Plum. It took a few minutes to get into this new series (New to me), but I warmed up pretty quickly to it. There are still the quirky characters and the funny adventures although it seems a bit more serious than the other books I’ve read by her. Looking forward to the next one.

SAVANNAH BLUES by Mary Kay AndrewsOkay, yes, it is chick lit. BUT, it is GOOD chick lit. Andrews is my favorite author for when I am mad at the world (don’t ask) and I need a picker-upper. She gives me a good story with interesting characters, some local touches, a lot of romance, a bit of “southern” and good writing with a few laughs on the way to getting the bad guy and having a happy ending.Weezie, the wronged wife and soon to be divorcee, has been consigned to the “coach house” while hubby lives with wife number two in the “big house”. Best friend, Bebe, comes to the rescue when Weezie is caught standing over the bloody body of wife number two. Bebe brings along the hunky chef of the best restaurant in town who tries to help with interesting results (he must have a great staff because he is rarely at said restaurant).Lots of fun and skullduggery, a bit of antiquing and home repair, along with many twists and turns in the romance department make this a great read for a quarantine summer.5 of 5 stars

This is the second Mary Andrews book I have read, Hissy Fit being the first, and although I liked it for what it was-Chick Lit, I felt like I was basically reading Hissy Fit again. The main character, Weezie, in this book and the main character, Keely in Hissy Fit were almost the same personality; strong women, but unsure in love. In both books the heroines have the same profession (antiques), and are both in conflict with their new love interest while still having ties to their ex-husband/ex-fiancé. Each book contains a mystery (although my library does not categorize these in the mystery section), has the required gay male character, and a loving father. And each gains her independence from said “ex” and lets herself be free to fall in love again.

I listened to this on audio while I was at the beach, and it was a perfect beach read (especially on audio). Susan Erickson, the narrator does a great job and her accent is subtle and not too fake Southern like the narrator of the Sookie Stackhouse books.

Andrews has written two more books in this series that Weezie is in, but one of them features Weezie’s best friend, Bebe, who is a totally different character than Weezie or Keely-so I might give that a try the next time I need a smarter than average Chick Lit book to read.

Pickers, antiques, southern cooking, murder and Savannah, it could be a good story but just not my type of book.

This was an ok book. There were a few parts that I thought were pretty outlandish. I do like Ms. Andrews' sense of humor though.

A "potato chip" book. Aka beach read. Actually loved it. Couldn't put it down. Well written, fast paced, charming characters, good villains, interesting back story (antique picking).

Another winner by the author. Page turner. She is a divorced woman living next door to her ex and there is a murder in the midst of this. (his new wife). Very cute series. As always she has a gay bestie.

This story centers on the character, Eloise "Weezie" Foley. She is easy to love, easy to understand (mostly), and fun to follow. Her adventures in the antiquing business are classic and I was rooting for her the whole book. Weezie has a great friend, a pretentious ex-husband who has an even more pompous girlfriend, and an interesting new love interest. I enjoy Mary Kay Andrews books - wonderful summer reading!

I’d read Savannah Breeze before picking up this book at the library. So I was already familiar with some of the characters, and it was fun to see them from a different angle.Newly divorced Weezie Foley is putting up with a lot. Her ex-husband is living in their townhouse with his new fiancé while she’s living in the carriage house on the same property. This is the townhouse she’d put the money down on, rehabbed on her own and decorated to the showplace it had become. She’s a picker, meaning she goes to garage and estate sales with an eye towards resale, and she’s really good at both it as well as decorating. It doesn’t help that she finds the body of the woman she hates and since she’d threatened the woman . . . she’s up on murder charges. Unfortunately, her alcoholic mother is adding to her stress with her denial of her alcoholism and constant harassment of Weezie.Add a couple of uncovered schemes involving an old house that’s about to be torn down when it should be considered the property of the historical society, a delicious chef, a best friend who likes to scheme, an ex-husband who wants her back and you’ve got a fun and funny chic-lit/mystery.I can’t help but comparing it to Savannah Breeze. There are parts of this book I like better and aspects of the second book I thought were done better. I expected a level of danger in this book, and we do get it to some extent, but not from the direction I was expecting. The story is mostly told from the points of view of Weezie and her Uncle James, a lawyer who used to be a priest. One thing done really well is the quirky, although realistic characters, the real-life situations and the resulting emotions which run the spectrum. I was somewhat disappointed in how one of the issues uncovered is handled, although it definitely works out good for the abused parties. We do learn something about the antiques business and pickers; the people who find the stuff for the dealers. And Daniel, the chef mentioned, is an interesting and steamy character. An enjoyable tale.

The perfect book for one of the dreary winter days when one's home with a cold. It's simple, light, well enough constructed, and what's not to love about Savannah?

Definitely a good summer beach read and thoroughly enjoyable! I had not read any of Andrews's books, but I may have to read more of them. There is a mystery going on in Savannah, but there is so much humor, it's not a dark whodunit at all. I love the main character, Weezie, and of course the setting is perfect. Since I am a frequent visitor to Savannah, I can see the places in the book very well. There is a murder, but it's no one you'll like, so it's ok (at least when it comes to fiction - not in real life!). Think Evanovich on a slightly more serious level.

I couldn't stop thinking about how cool it would be to do what Weezie does- being a "picker" sounds kinda fun! Like treasure hunting everyday for a living. Reading this made me want to run out and find estate sales and garage sales and try my luck! This book was a fun read- I loved reading about Savannah, one of my favorite southern cities, right up there with New Orleans. I liked the allusion in the book too, to the book and trial of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - and I was surprised to learn that Andrews was a reporter for that case and trial. I felt like although I enjoyed reading about these characters, I barely scratched the surface of them. Weezie seemed almost obsessed with junking - like she never wanted to do anything but that. When she and Daniel were together, they fought all the time and I didn't really like that. I did really like Daniel and Bebe's characters though- I felt like I knew more about them then I did Weezie! I did enjoy Weezie's mother and father - her mother was a trip, even after rehab! The mystery plot line was well done, I thought. A fine old house, the only one of its kind, a murder that Weezie stumbles on while looking for the bathroom - I thought these parts were better written than the romance, with fun details and surprises. I enjoyed this book, it was a fun read! I will more than likely read the next book in this series, which is about Bebe.

I found this book very frustrating. The author is clearly a great writer -- everything about the antiquing, the houses, the South, danced off the page. The heroine's relationship with her best friend was great; her parents and her uncle, really well written. It was the interactions with the two main men in her life -- her ex-husband and her ex-but-now-potentially-current-beau -- were where I had the problem. With the potential love interest in particular, the reactions seemed almost entirely off. There wasn't any slow build; they either hated each other or were all over each other. Nothing in between. And although I could very much identify with the love interest's (Daniel) dislike of the ex-husband, Tal, (not to mention the mixed messages that the heroine, "Weezie," was sending in that regard), it seemed a bit over the top the way he reacted to her interactions with him. And the thing that he actually did have a right to react harshly to -- and did at first -- was completely disregarded in the end with no explanation as to why it was no longer a concern. It felt like the author wrote a great book about antiques and 'picking,' but then someone along the way said that she needed to make it a romance so she threw a few scenes in at various points along the way. I wanted to really like this book -- and, I have to admit, that I did really like the antiquing etc. parts, so it wasn't a lost cause. And, yes, I do plan on reading other books this author has written. However, I'll definitely be going into them with different mindset: it's more about the background and not about the romance.

Definitely chick lit, but not bad. The mystery side of it is a bit weak and the book overall could have been shorter and sharper. Andrews has a feel for the South and portrays Savannah in good light and is definitely a Southern girl at heart with the way she has Weezie tell off her ex. Great for a beach read, a long trip, or just a break from the more heavy darker murder and mayhem fare.

Calling all my fellow antique lovers, yard sale-a-holics, junkers & rummage goers! This book is for you! Don't consider yourself to be one of the above!? This book also comes highly recommended for all you people that like whodunits or quirky southern humor! This was a great book! A funny, quick, page turning read! The main character is a picker...someone who goes to yard sales, thrift stores, etc looking for all things vintage & antique. Taking place in Savannah, GA. of course you have lots of funny, quirky southern characters throughout the story! And for those of you who have been to Savannah you will have a great time revisiting it in through this story! Toss in the whodunit & this book is sure to keep you turning pages!
