About this audiobook

The USA Today best-selling author of You Slay Me, Katie MacAlister is a resounding hit with fans who find her vivacious heroine, Aisling Grey, one hot ticket. After making some amusing on-the-job blunders, Aisling squirms out of a sticky situation using her powers as a Keeper to the Gates of Hell. As if her list of new duties wasn't already a drag, she's got to keep her career as a courier on track-and lately things haven't quite gelled on that front either.

Fire Me Up
Author

Katie MacAlister

Despite her love for novels, Katie MacAlister didn’t think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. MacAlister resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.

So, so bad. One of those modern-fantasy romances that are so popular these days (Charlaine Harris, Carrie Vaughn, Kim Harrison…), but with purpler prose and an even less engaging plot.

Fine. Aisling's a Guardian. She can't get out of it so she might as well accept it. That takes her to a conference in Budapest where she has to find a Guardian to train her. Naturally, nothing goes smoothly.

I was all set to give this one four stars just like its predecessor until I got to the part when Drake throws Aisling into the limo near the end. At this point Aisling becomes incredibly selfish and immature.

I couldn't believe her behaviour. She made an oath, a commitment to not just Drake but to his green dragons. She acts like a selfish brat worrying about a career she hasn't even started yet, when her mate is about to lose everything with the possibility of even going to war.

And then she runs away and walks away from him. Again. Despite knowing the importance of her role to his species and the possible ramifications of her abandonment of her duties to both the dragons and humans. Ugh. I know this is supposed to be a light-hearted series but that really p*ssed me off.

I really am not liking this series and don't think I will continue. This story is very similar to the first story. How is one person falsely accused of multiple murders in two completely different countries? It is just a little too fake for me. I also didn't like the secondary characters in this story. I couldn't stand Tiffany, the professional virgin, or Marma Belle (or however you spell her name. Since I was listening, I never saw how it was spelled).

The relationship with Drake is another thing that got under my skin. At the end of the last story and the beginning on this one, Aisling does not want anything to do with Drake the dragon. Partway through this story, he makes one obscure promise and she then starts to fawn all over him. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Also, my favorite character, Jim the demon dog, was mostly absent. He spent a large amount of the story at the vet after eating toxic plants.

Halfway through the book, I was worried. Katie MacAlister is constantly in danger of letting her sense of comedy overwhelm her novels - losing the meat of characters, momentum, tension, etc., in her desire to punch out something irreverant, spunky, and lightly entertaining. For a while, I was really worried that she was going to ruin Fire Me Up and Aisling Grey by turning it into a (not necessarily funny) sketch routine.

    But she didn't!

What counterbalances the broad comedy so well in Fire Me Up is the sheer unfairness of Aisling's situation - you'd have to be quite a cynic to dream up all of the awful things that she experiences in this book. She is blamed, suspected, betrayed, misjudged, and patronized at every turn.

This novel has a satisfying narrative arc, while also leaving room for the situation to change in later novels as Aisling and the other characters evolve. The action centers around a conference of Otherworlders in Budapest, and a couple of murders committed there. Once again Aisling is a suspect and scrambling to clear her name.

She's also looking for a mentor, adapting to her new role as a Guardian and hoping to learn enough to do the job right. And Drake appears as well - for a not-so-coincidentally timed conference of dragon wyverns. A lot of things happen on that front - Aisling finds herself embroiled in dragon politics, intra- and extra-sept, and back in a love/hate sort of relationship with Drake. (I, too, had a love/hate relationship with him in this book).

By the end I was totally enthralled and happy with the book and I can't wait to read the next one.

This woman is stupid. And she really needs to grow up and stop being such a stupid, whiny little bint. Really. The story could have been a lot of fun if only the main character would shut up!!!!!

This is a funny, laugh out-loud romantic comedy series. I've enjoyed them all. Warning to the faint at heart, there is sex and lots of dream loving. The dragons are interesting and the idea of being in control of keeping the evil from entering our world kept me interested, so did all the laws involving what a person could do or not do in the other world. The different roles taken by the members took a bit to follow, but I enjoyed this series. Katie MacAllister's writing is full of humor.

Holy cow. This book was even better than the first and more fiery than you can ever imagine. Katie MacAlister has created a whole new world for paranormal fantasy featuring the romance between a human and a dragon. Considering how amazing MacAlister's style is, I've never been a huge fan of the cover designs. But I definitely love the title. It's sensual, sultry, and gives off several hints of seduction. And the characters? Who doesn't love Aisling's fierce and confident personality, Jim's amazing sense of humor, and of course, the arrogant, selfish but all time sexy dragon Drake, who has the power to send you to your knees with his sexual prowess. The romance heats up even more than in the last book and and so does the sexual tension...MacAlister has outdone herself with Fire Me Up. It is most definitely a must have and should go on your to-read list ASAP.

This is the second book in the Aisling Grey Guardian series by Katie MacAlister. I did not think that this book was as good as the first book. I thought that the first book was cute, sexy, funny and had some original ideas. This book was cute, sometimes sexy, rarely funny and rehashed a lot of what we already learned in the first book. These are definitely way into the romance category and just slightly into the paranormal.Aisling travels to Budapest, Hungary to go the GODTAM convention where she hopes to meet other people like herself (That is magical type folk) and to find a Guardian to mentor her. Unfortunately she bumps into Drake and finds out that he is still obsessed with her performing her duties as his mate; some of these duties happen to be attending meetings of the Dragons' that just happen to be at the hotel she is at. With Drake hovering and her demon, Jim, making snarky comments Aisling is having one heck of a time getting a mentor lined up.Okay I pretty much know what I am getting into with these books. They are definitely not to be taken seriously, you need to leave all your notions about romantic relationships at the door, remember things won't necessarily make any sense, and remember Aisling is a bit of an airhead. Even going into reading this book with these things in mind I was a bit miffed at this book.First the positive stuff: This was a cute, fun read. It was a quick read and the plot moved along nicely. There were lots of tastefully done steamy sex scenes. I think it is awesome that Aisling is trying to get training for her position as a Guardian. It bugs me to death when a character decides they would rather tough it out, than do the logical thing and get a little help from a mentor. I liked the introduction of the Silver Dragon, Tiffany the professional Virgin, and some of the new Guardians.Okay now for the negative stuff. Aisling whines constantly, about pretty much everything. She can't make up her mind about anything; she hates Drake, she wants him, she hates him, etc. Her and Drake get in arguments over things that are very childish. I mean come on Drake is how old? You don't think he learned any communication skills in all that time? Aisling seems to have major ADD in this book and can't ever decide what to do next. I can understand Jim's frustration with her. Despite the fact that Aisling blunders through most of the book somehow she is uber-powerful and manages to right things (just like in the first book). Maybe this is supposed to be part of the humor? It was an okay book, it was light-hearted and amused me. Just, please don't think about the plot or Aisling's intentions too hard or you will hurt your brain trying to make sense of it. This is a book to read quickly, take at face value, and then it's on to another book. I have the next two books in the series and I will read them because I have them.

I know somebody complained that Jim (demon-in-dog-form) stole the scenes, but I absolutely loved this one. LOTS of fun, better than You Slay Me, IMO. Some real emotion between Aisling & Drake here, and REALLY nice sex scenes--and you know how critical I am of romance novel sex scenes. Who'd've thought fire was sexy??

I liked this whole series and have started to read the next one, very entertaining and kept me going to the next book and the next to see what happens. I would recommend this to anyone who likes paranormal mystery/romance with a bit of fun thrown in. I curl up with any of her books and enjoy the time spent reading and laughing to a a few of her quips.

This is the 2nd book in the Aisling Grey, Guardian series. My review of book 1, You Slay Me, can be found at this entry in my blog. The story takes place in Budapest. Aisling is there to attend the GODTAM conference (Guardians, Oracles, Diviners, Theurgists and Mages) in the hopes of finding a Guardian mentor so she can learn more about her powers and how to control them. As usual, she's accompanied by her demon Jim, a lovable, if a bit mouthy and troublesome, big black Newfie dog. Her mate Drake, wyvern of the Green Dragon sept, whom we also met in You Slay Me, has followed her there, moving his scheduled "peace talks" with the other 3 dragon septs to the same city where Aisling is... because as his mate, Drake claims, she's an important part of the sept.Of course, trouble also follows Aisling everywhere she goes, and "trouble" makes a grand entrance in Budapest, as it did in France. Aisling finds herself in some pretty hot water—both literally and figuratively—and has promised to help the Otherworld police, the L'au-delà, find out who's been killing some of the Guardians so she herself isn't charged of the crimes. She's always just popping up in the wrong place at the wrong time it seems!Where the story goes a bit overboard for me at times is with some of the romance scenes, and the mushy gushy way that Aisling sometimes goes on about Drake like a love-sick school girl with a crush. It's like "gag-a-rama"! ;) But this is something that bugs me about a lot of MacAlister's books, including the Dark Ones series. Fortunately, the rest of the story is often interesting enough to keep me reading... I just hate too much romance in my books without something to even it out.Despite all Aisling's troubles, everything works out for her in the end... well nearly everything. A few things left unresolved leave the reader anxiously looking forward to the next book in the series, Light My Fire to find out what happens next. (Fortunately, that book is already waiting here on my shelf, though it might be several months before I can get to it.)

Aisling Grey traveled to Budapest to accomplish two things. The first was to get back in her uncle's good graces by completeing a courier job of a priceless amulet for him. The second was to attend GODTAM (a conference of otherworldly beings) and hopefully find a mentor to teach her to be a guardian. No where on her itinerary had Aisling included an attempted mugging as soon as she left the train station or a surprise run in with a certain too sexy for her peace of mind wyvern in human form. Unfortunately for Aisling very little ever goes as she plans and those problems are only the beginning. Soon Aisling is embroiled in yet another murder mystery with a host of very unusual suspects including a professional virgin, an annoying Diviner and a host of naked, amorous incubi. Will Aisling and her demon dog, Jim, be able to solve the mystery of who is murdering guardians before Aisling herself is once again blamed?I have never been the type to enjoy murder mysteries and I do not usually find myself drawn to serial romances that feature the same main character. However, I find myself making exceptions to both of these usual reading habits and absolutely loving the Aisling Grey books. I enjoyed this second book even more than I did the first and I am really looking forward to the next in the series. Aisling makes a very believable, funny and compelling character. I love her relationships with both Jim and Drake, as different as they are. I really think that the way Aisling can understand the why of the way Drake thinks and operates but is human enough to still get angry is great. It's a contridiction that I can totally identify with myself. I highly recommend this story to anyone who likes demons, dragons, myseteries and/or romances.

In the sequal to You Slay Me, Aisling Grey is attending a conference for the otherword. She's trying to deliver an amulet, get a mentor, and beating off men who seem to all find her irresistible. This second book is even better than the first and Aisling is starting to learn more about her guardian powers. Drake and she are now bound together but there is trouble brewing with the dragon septs. Can't wait for number three.

Second in new series about Aisling Grey, Guardian of the portals of Hell (Amadon). Other characters include Drake, her dragon intended, Rene, the mysterious taxi driver, and Jim, her demon in Newfoundland dog form. Very funny, a good addition to the series.
