It was a bit 3.5 stars until the end when a twist made me re-read a few pages to check that what had happened had happened. Oh man, that changes things for the next book and puts an interesting twist on things.Chrystabelle is alive, apparently that new gold she bonded to has effects, her relationship with Mal is progressing, the mayor of Paradise City has imposed a curfew and Tatiana has the baby and her brother. Doc and Fi are having interesting pack dynamics issues and much of what's going in is setup for the next book. Interesting, I like the characters and I want to know what happens next.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: This is a book about the supernatural, from vampires and shape shifters to fae and everything in between. The main story is about Chrysabelle who is a comarre and her vampire lover, Mal.Opening Sentence: Deep in sleep, Chrysabelle curled against a cold, steely form that paralleled her own.The Review:This book is great for those who love anything supernatural. It talks about creatures that most stories do not cover. Such as basilisks, dragons, a soulless woman made out of ravens, and many others. It also talks about the creatures we all know such as shape shifters, ghosts, and vampires. This story was good but it was the forth book in the series so it was a bit confusing to follow and understand at first. If you are interested in this series, I recommend starting with the first book. This story was told in many viewpoints and moved around a lot.The two main characters included Mal, a vampire, and his comarre, Chrysabelle. A comarre is a human who is sold to a vampire for their blood. A true Comarre gains abilities from their patrons drinking their blood. The other viewpoints included Fiona, a ghost, and her jaguar shifting boyfriend Doc; the mayor who starts out human and becomes more; Thomas Creek who works for the KM, an organization that protects the humans from monsters: and Mal’s ex-wife Tatiana, who is extremely evil.Mal and Chrysabelle are tasked by the KM to find and rescue a child who was kidnapped by Tatiana and return the child to the KM. This baby is no regular baby though. Lilith is the first baby actually born a vampire. She had a human mother and a vampire father. As Mal and Chrysabelle are trying to rescue the child, her grandmother, the mayor of New Florida is trying to find her own way of finding her grandchild. She goes so far as to lose her humanity. This is just the main story. There is also the side story of Fiona and Doc and how they fight to save their relationship and how Thomas tries to protect his family and others from something very sinister.I really liked how the author portrayed the characters. Tatiana was evil and you couldn’t help dislike her from the beginning but at times feel bad for her at the same time once you got a glimpse at her past. I really liked Chrysabelle and Mal and I wanted their relationship to work out and for them to be happy. Also I wanted them to succeed in saving the child. Fiona and Doc were a great couple but it is interesting to think of a ghost and a shape shifter together so I was intrigued to see if they would last or not. This story would be hard for some people because there were so many different things going on in the story but they all come together so as not to be confusing or random. I was very confused in the beginning but as I got farther into the book I really started to enjoy the story. I have not read the first three stories but I now think I will go back and read them. I am also looking forward to the release of the fifth book, Last Blood, to come out so I can see what happens next. I recommend giving this series a try if you like the supernatural.Notable Scene:The Sun kissed his boots, snaking up his legs.Wisps of Smoke rose from his body. “No,” she begged the sun, but nothing would stop it now. She reached for his hand. “Mal, please, try harder.”Harsh rays swallowed his lower half. The sedan screeched to a stop inches away. The sun glared off it in bright flashes as it breached the horizon and enveloped Mal in its light. With a last guttural cry, he disintegrated into smoke.FTC Advisory: Orbit provided me with a copy of Out for Blood. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

This is the fourth book in the House of Comarre series by Painter. The fifth (and final) book will be titled, Last Blood, and is scheduled for a Spring 2013 release. I enjoyed this book, it is again told from a billion points of view, but it worked better for this book than the last one. This book picks up with Chrysabelle recovering from her ordeals in the last book. She is trying to figure out what the Ring of Sorrows has done to her since it was melted into her skin. Meanwhile Titania is presenting her new vampire baby to the masses. Lola is trying to find someone to turn her into a vampire so she can rescue her granddaughter (the above mentioned vampire baby). Lola is also wreaking havoc with Paradise city in general. Lastly Doc is taking over the local shapeshifter pack and finds the position comes with a wife, which really pisses off Fi.Does the above sound like a strange paranormal soap opera? Well that’s pretty much what this book is. This book picks up where the last left off. It uses uses a ton of POVs to tell the story. We hear from Creek, Crysabelle, Mel, Doc, Fi, Lola (the mayor), and Titania. This works pretty well for the this book and the flow wasn't too choppy because of it. Still, I liked the first couple books where the main POVs were Crysabelle and Mel much better. We hear a lot from Titania and Lola in this book and I really don't enjoy either of them much as characters. Both of them are short sighted and selfish. Crysabelle continues to have a blind spot where Mel is concerned and their relationship progresses very slowly, but it does make some progress. Mel is a bit of a weenie, I constantly want him to stand up for himself better against Crysabelle. There are a lot of storylines going on here. Overall I enjoyed some of the developments in this book. I also enjoyed the way the storyline behind Mel's curse and the Ring of Sorrows is developing. I am curious as to where the plot with Lilith the vampire baby is going as well. The only disappointing thing is that even with a good length book the story progress slowly because of all the viewpoints.Despite all the POVs, the writing is well done and easy to read. The book was engaging and hard to put down. I plan on reading the final book in the series for sureOverall a solid addition to this series, if not as good as the first two books. We hear a lot from Titania and Lola and they just aren’t my favorite characters. Mel and Crysabelle take a backseat to everything else that is going on. There isn’t a ton of action in this book either, it is pretty much a paranormal soap opera. The story also suffers from slow progression because of the multiple POVs. Despite all of the above, I still enjoyed the book and found it to be well written and engaging. Recommended to fans of paranormal books.

Character wise OUT FOR BLOOD was full of just about everyone and everyone's points of view like usual. I still enjoy following along with Chrystabelle's voice and story. I'm kinda sick of Tatiana and no one seeing through her bull shit. I mean really!?!? How much crap can one bad guy get away with? Will she ever die? I sure hope so, I despise the parts in the book where her character is talking. I could not stand Creek in OUT FOR BLOOD he annoyed the heck out of me. So glad the love triangle is over with. The Mayor, uggh *rolls eyes*, that's all she deserves. I still love Mal, cant reveal to much about him in book 4 but *sad face*. The parts with Maddox and Fiona were extremely entertaining. Those two are a trip and Fiona pulls out a can of whoop ass. It was fun to "watch" her go all Alpha female.I can't say that I'm terribly shocked by the ending. I didn't see it coming or anything but i guess I kind of expect Chrystabelle not to have anything go anywhere near easy for her. The situation definitely makes me think that book 5 will be a roller coaster ride. This is one of those series were you would be utterly lost if starting from anywhere but the beginning. All in all OUT FOR BLOOD was a great addition to the series and you wont want to miss it.
