It’s September 2028 and Sarah’s daughter is getting married. Chiavernini takes us back in time as Sarah’s thoughts are filled with brides of Elm Creek Manor past and present-the traditions they honored, the legacies they bequeathed, and the wedding quilts that contain their stories in every stitch.Sarah is also working on the perfect Wedding Quilt for her daughter complete with loving messages from all the guests of the wedding.Dollycas’s ThoughtsAs you know by now this is one of my favorite series. I love it when the author takes us back in time for the history of Elm Creek Valley and the when she writes of the wonderful Elm Creek Quilters. The Wedding Quilt has left me very sad and conflicted.I know this is not the last Elm Creek Novel because I have an advance copy of Sonoma Rose right here on my desk, but while it is billed as an Elm Creek Quilts Novel, from a glance it doesn’t look like it features any of our favorites or connects to their history. All of the current ladies’ history was wrapped up in The Wedding Quilt. The author put together snippets from past books and added a few pages to tie up all the loose ends. I feel like I have lost my fictional friends. While Jennifer Chiaverini is an awesome writer and writes wonderful stories featuring very strong women, the was clearly not her best work. I feel there could have been several more books written with these characters. When I received this book I thought The Wedding Quilt would be about Anna and Jeremy’s wedding who came together at the end of A Quilter’s Holiday. I was shocked to find the wedding for one of the twins just born in real time. There is no way to go back.I know sometimes the author’s work doesn’t necessarily go in the direct they would like, publishers and others have a great deal of input. I wish she would have just taken a break from the characters her readers had come to love and let us know she was headed in a different direction either with the series or an entirely new project. I have read several other reviews since finishing of people who also were shocked or disappointed in this installment. When you read a series through 18 books you become attached to the characters and the way it wrapped up just feels wrong.

I got this book for free from Goodreads First ReadsThe Wedding Quilt is part of the Elm Creek Quilts series and continues the adventure of the Elm Creek Quilts ladies and their beaus. In this installment, with her daughter's wedding on the horizon, Sarah reflects back on the past and the present of the Elm Creek Manor brides. The story starts out strong and touching as Sarah's memories take her back to the day the twins were born, in a winter blizzard, and all of her friends and family that surrounded her. The book continues to alternate between past and present. When Sarah's daughter confesses that she wished she could make a beautiful wedding quilt for her own wedding, Sarah invests in the help of her friends to deliver her daughter a quilt made with love from the Elm Creek ladies from past and present. The Wedding Quilt was a very touching and beautiful story. I really enjoyed this book, it was kind of a comfort cozy read for me. Some parts of the book were very emotional. Especially when Sarah reflects back on the day the twins were born and all the good memories of her late friend Sylvia. The book is touching, filled with friendship, love and memories. The author does a wonderful job writing it. It's so easy to follow, she handles the transitions wonderful. It's filled with moments with wide range of emotions, powerful, happy and sad.The ending had my bottom lip quivering, I couldn't have pictured it ending anyway better. I have to say, I haven't read other of the Elm Creek Quilts books in the series. I was fortunate enough to win this book on Goodreads first reads, where I got introduced to a new author I haven't heard of before and her wonderful writing. If you like cozy comfort read books, and have some interest in quilts it's a good book to pick up. Each quilt has a story and preserves wonderful memories of strong people. I think I will be back tracking to book one, in order to learn more about the ladies of Elm Creek Manor as the series seems to revolve around the same characters that grow and make memories throughout the series.

Continuing with the Elm Creek Series. This book is set around 20 years later. In the last book I read Sarah was eagerly awaiting the birth of her twins. In this book the twins are in their mid 20s and Sarah's daughter is about to get married. The twins are Caroline and James. Caroline is the twin about to marry and her brother is also working at Elm Creek Manor. There are flashes back to past times in the series and we discover, not unsurprisingly, that Sylvia had passed away 12 years before. We learn some of the details of that, but Sylvia left Elm Creek Manor to Sarah to continue to love and develop. The Wedding Quilt is a series of squares each signed by those who attend the special day. We don't read of Sarah presenting the quilt, we do know that it will be presented after the honeymoon! Before Sylvia died she left with Sarah two packages for the twins with the instructions that the packages be presented to them on the occasion of the first wedding or 30th birthday, whichever comes first. Each package is accompanied by a note and is written with the love that is felt amongst the whole series. Caroline, inherits the Wedding Quilt which was from an earlier book and part of Sylvia's family. James inherits a book of Sylvia's memoirs.I love the tenderness and love that features throughout, not only this book but the series. In picking up this book it was rather like greeting an old friend and I settled down to devour it within a few hours. Jennifer Chiaverini does a wonderful job of bringing to life friendships and I am always amazed that she manages to cope with the changes to the characters, whilst still retaining older characters.

My first finish of 2012! Definitely a good choice for a lazy New Years Eve/Day. This book satisfied in so many ways; almost all of the original quilters appeared, and all the loose ends were tied up.I cant help wondering if this was the ending of the series, though

This book does two things: one, it gives fans of this series a peek into the future, showing where all their favorite characters are; and second, it recaps many of the events of past books, putting those events into context and building a picture of the lives that each of the characters have made. The book is interesting, but there is no compelling storyline which makes it weak for me.
