Carrington is the female lead who believes she is unlovable, imperfect and worthless. Of course, it doesn’t help that her mother has been having her recite the six rules that govern the community after a period called the Ruining. In order to please God, people are forced to follow rules, live in what is basically a caste system and the worst is being separated forever from their family.Remko is a city guard who Carrington recognizes early on as a man who has a tender heart and an unfulfilled need in his heart. There is a lot going on in the story that will keep you up reading till the end; it is intense to the max! What is portrayed is spiritual warfare that happens over each soul and how one must choose to be free in Him, loved by Him and cherished by Him. The villain in the book readers will quickly spot from the opening of the tale.I bought this book when it first came out, intending to read it as soon as I could. When book two recently was released titled, The Calling, I had to delve into the constant action and high caliber intensity of book one that never lets up. The story is powerful because it speaks powerful Biblical truths through various parts of the work of fiction.When I looked in the back of book two, The Calling, I saw book three will be released in the fall of this year, I was ecstatic not to have to wait a whole year for the conclusion! In the tale too I noticed just how important a family unit is and how it works best to the glory of God. I enjoyed the name used to show us Jesus as our High Priest, who offered Himself to redeem us, to reconcile us and restore us.So grab The Choosing and The Calling so you’re prepared for book three when it is released by Tyndale this year! Open your heart and mind to the spiritual truths well woven within the novels!       Hmmm, nothing on the covers told me this was a religious themed book, but the series definitely is. Not against the genre, but sometimes I'm not in the mood to hear preaching. Overall, it was o.k.

      I would hope that our world does not get this bad in 200 years. Why would we want our lives to go so backward. This would be a horrible world to live in but this is a wonderfully written story. Maybe Carrington is lucky to not be picked in the first place. I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series very soon. I received this book from Tyndale for a fair and honest opinion.

      In a similar dystopian spirit of "The Hunger Games", "Divergent", "The Selection", "Matched" and other such popular titles, Rachelle Dekker's debut novel is outstanding. Her style might be familiar to those who have read her father, Ted Dekker's works - but geared to a more teenage audience. There is a serial killer character and a few scary moments that might not be good for younger readers, but overall an excellent excellent read.

      In 2111, a vaccine was created to cure all illnesses, mutating as diseases did. What they didn't plan on was the antibodies attacking themselves and causing a large percentage of the population that was vaccinated to die. Those days were called The Ruining. One hundred years later, a group of survivors gathered and were led by Robert Carson, in a new religious world.The year is 2257, Carrington Hale has spent her whole life preparing for this day, her Choosing. She is taught that she is valued by how prepared she is for this big day and whether or not she gets chosen. To Carrington's dismay, despite her training and high marks, she isn't selected. Those not chosen are sent away to work as Lints, the very lowest class, never to see their families again. Will her friend Larkin be able to get through to her? Will she listen to the voice that continually tries to reach her in the quiet?Rochelle Dekker has written a wonderful debut novel. The depth of the characters are amazing. In addition to Carrington's struggles, there's a mystery in the backdrop that also had me intrigued and engrossed throughout the novel. Although this was a dystopian story, I could actually see the plausibility in it. This was a brilliantly written first novel and I can't wait to see more from this author.**I received a free copy of this novel from Tyndale House Publishing in exchange for my honest review.**

      I've read this book about two dozen times in the last three years. It wasn't bad but it wasn't original in any way.
