- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really like these books even though it can be a bit unrealistic at times. Sometimes he escapes only because of luck or incompetent enemies. But it's really engaging and the narrator is fantastic. Most importantly I think the author took a lot of time working on the details of the fight scenes because the descriptions are very thorough and the fighting tactics are creative. I also like the main character. He is very plain because of his profession, but he has just enough of a personality for you to root for him.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5REALLY good. It's been a long time since I've read an excellent assassin novel. The quote on the front of the book comparing it to Lee Child and Vince Flynn is accurate. The assassin Victor, our protagonist, is hired by a US government official to do various jobs. But this ends up making Victor a target. The writing is sold and the author, Tom Wood, does an amazing job building Victor. He's much like Jack Reacher in that he's very intuitive and doesn't need lots of tech to figure things out.I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more of Wood's work!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I picked up this book after reading the blurb and thinking it sounded pretty okay.
Upon getting into it it became apparent it's actually the second in a series, but the brief back story gives you enough information that whilst having not read the first book I likely missed out on some character development I wasn't left with a hollow character. There's enough there for it to be enjoyable on its own.
It's a decently realistic story line in terms of modern subterfuge & counter-terrorism which isn't let down by a lack of technical knowledge or unrealistic encounters which some thrillers succumb too.
Highly recommended.
