About this audiobook

Diana Gabaldon’s magnificent historical saga, begun with Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, continues with this New York Times bestseller. Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first.

Now that Claire knows Jamie survived the slaughter at Culloden, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. She aches to travel back through time again to find the love of her life, but, in order to do that, she must leave their daughter behind. It has been 20 years since she and
Jamie were forced to separate. Can she risk everything, maybe even her life, on a gamble that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time?

A re-read!Book 3 of the Outlander series. Claire Randall who has travelled thru time twice, learns that her Jamie MacKenzie has survived Culloden. Claire and Bree (daughter of Claire and Jamie) along with Roger Wakefield, a Scots historian, try to trace him from Culloden. If she can find where he is will she try to travel time to again join him? This book contains more than a search for Jamie, and decision for Claire. It includes smuggling and printing seditious tracts, treasure hunts, sailing adventures including British naval pressing and kidnapping as well as attack by pirates, and much, much more.Time travel, adventure, history, a 200 year time span, and a love story. I have only one dislike of this book - knowing that Diana Gabaldon will research and write the next book and will present it when she feels it is done and not a minute sooner. The time between books seems so, so long. (I do realize that 1-8 are available, I am impatiently waiting 9).

Made me wish that every woman that I met was a Claire but more importantly, every man that I met was James Fraser. Didn't find men in a kilt attractive until meeting one that embodied every definition of manliness - James Fraser. A great romance that keeps you wanting to find out what happens next to these two lovers.

Like the Outlander series, but don't love. I tried to read this series twice; but got bogged down in the middle twice too :)

Voyager picks up right where Dragonfly left off, as each new book does. I won't give any details away, but I will say that the immediate drama and action is still there - it's just not as ... immediate and dramatic. Blame this on the fact that the main characters still don't seem to have very many flaws and don't ever really do anything wrong - or you can blame it on the fact that you just know nothing really bad will ever happen to these folks because they are, of course, the main characters. I guess this is a common problem with most series, I just don't happen to read very many (there are way too many books out there to read and re-read the same characters, right?).The main reason I'm still reading the Outlander series is admittedly because Gabaldon did such a bang-up job on the first one. Unfortunately, the steam of the original romance has already run out, and so has the sense of real danger and the what-would-you-do fantasy that kept readers guessing through Outlander and Dragonfly. I really hope this is just a lull in the scheme of things, and I still plan to pick up Drums of Autumn, as soon as I find it again (I think my sister stole it, so you'll have to excuse my promise to continue with the series uninterrupted). Voyager did end with a good cliffhanger, and in some form I do very much care about Claire and Jamie's adventures in (not gonna tell you where!), but there's a reason it took me such a long time to get through.readerswell.blogspot.com

AUTHOR: Third book of the OUTLANDER series and once again Diana Gabaldon has navigated us right into an adventure a minute. Outstanding author. This book by far the most adventurous. That’s her style and I’m sure…..grrrr….she does it on purpose.SYNOPSIS - From a battle to living in a cave; Prison to a child being born; Profession as a printer and a smuggler; A person pops up who we already know; A marriage revealed; Kidnapping of a young boy; Voyage to Jamaica; Another person pops up who we already know; and for the coup de gras….it ain’t Europe that the storm blows the shipwrecked parties onto.PASSION SCALE: This book gets ** for WILL make you wiggle a little. Do not get me wrong. The passion was great however there is more emphasis on the adventure with just the right touch of passion. Situations are just hot enough to wet your whistle and to use your imagination. I assure you won’t mind doing so. *NOT very descriptive and requires imagination ** WILL make you wiggle a little) *** WISH it was me; **** OH BODY, whew; *****EROTICA and well over the topFAVORITE PART: Just do not read what happens at the absolute end because I was shocked and loved it!LEAST FAVORITE PART: Interaction between Jaime and an old friend behind the Governor’s door. Why oh why does the author keep going there...why oh why!YOU WILL LIKE THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKE: Historical romance. Scotland. Time travel, Life "after" battle of CullodenThis book gets FIVE Stars because Diana Gabaldon knows how to temper adventure with the perfect amount of passion to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Loved the book but the quality of this audio was poor. Quite a few spots are glitched and skips. Thankfully I knew the story line but it took away from the enjoyment of the book having to miss an entire “scene”

Jamie and Claire continue their adventures together in Gabaldon's 3rd book in the Outlander series. I found this one to be my favorite so far. The story has much more action and adventure than the first two with fewer love scenes for you non-romance connoisseurs. This trip takes us from Scotland to the Caribbean with a few familiar characters popping up here and there. Some will surprise you.Diana Gabaldon is a master story teller. Her wonderful descriptions of scenery, characters and historical events is fascinating and with the help of narrator, Davina Porter, the book on CD will transport you back in time. I can't wait to listen to Drums of Autumn!

This is the third in Diana Gabaldon's 'Outlander'series about Jamie, an 18th century Scot, and his passionate marriage to Clare, a 20th century Englishwoman. Strange idea? Yes, but this series doesn't read like fantasy at all, despite the occasional mystical reference. It's grounded in solid and brilliantly written history.

Some old 'friends' from previous books make appearances, some of them rather surprising and, I suppose, reliant somewhat on coincidence - but that didn't worry me over-much. The last few chapters are dramatic - even more so than the rest of the book! - and the ending very satisfying.

My only proviso about this book is that it would be highly confusing to anyone who hasn't read the first two in the series.

Ms.Gabaldon has done it again! A fantastic third book in the Outlander series. The story takes you back through 20 years of separation then they are back together in a never ending adventure with twists and turns, murder, betrayal, scandal, resurrection, kidnapping, slavery, wedding, & toe curling sex. Looking forward to book 4.

Third book in the series. I think it’s the best after the first (outlander). I appreciate the detail to history as the story of Claire and Jamie continues.

My favourite of the three so far. I enjoyed finally having Jamie's POV and wished more, if not all, of the book was it, instead of Claire's narrative. I also enjoyed the returned presence of one John Grey and am excited to start his series of novels.

    [SPOILERS]
The return of Geillie was odd and unnecessary. All of her bits could have been done with a new character, instead of rehashing Claire's obsession with Geillie over and over in these books. I can only assume the author herself really liked her creation to continue to reuse her. I'd like to see Claire meet more time travellers - if there are stones all over the world like we see on Hispaniola here and twice in Scotland...
Also, barring the presence of "Nessie" in book #1 and the loa magic here in book #3, there isn't any more proof of the supernatural. If there are magic circles and voodoo, an actual ghost or two wouldn't go amiss.

After a slow beginning the middle is extremely good. But the limits of coincidence are stretched just a little too much and the ending was far too random and gibberishy for my liking

Book 3 of the Outlander series.I continue to be drawn by the writing, the creativity and the story, but at the end of each book I wonder if I'll be reading the next volume. This book moves past the historical anchors of the Jacobite rebellion in Scotland, allowing the author more latitude with the plot - which she uses. The story becomes a mad scramble through fires and fights, shipwrecks and pirates, leaving me a little bemused. I preferred the more steady dramas of the earlier volumes. But the writing still attracts me. Volume 4 beckons - but maybe not for a while.

A guilty pleasure - long continuation of the Outlander saga with time travel, Scottish adventure, romance, medical procedures of 1750's, ending in a 'Pirates of the Caribbean' epic drama. Jamie does have some faults in keeping secrets from Claire but she forgives him having been apart for 20 years (and 200 years back in time).

Four stars instead of five because this book felt like it was an uphill battle to finish. And I couldn’t tell you what the first part of the book was by the time I was at the end. But, still love the characters, which are solidly in my head due to the tv series.

Not as compelling as the first two books in the series. This one got off to a *really* slow start but luckily the adventure picked up again. However, while the first two books had the battle at Culloden driving the plot this one seemed a bit meandering and directionless. I was pleasantly surprised by the all the plot twists and how well they worked and how characters you thought were gone or insignificant would show back up.

Such a whirlwind this book was. I was excited for many things that happened and anxious for others. And I'm glad that there was more humor in the characters and situations than was in the last book, or last half of the last book.
It was definitely a wild ride.
Remind me to never travel to the Caribbean with Jamie and Claire, so much can go wrong!

Reread for a catchup of the show and the books. I'd forgotten how long these novels were! I have to say... there are quite a few problematic pieces to this book that I hadn't noticed the first time around.

Additionally, having watched the show, everything was in the actor's voices. Which was not unpleasant at all.

Voyager is the 3rd book in the Outlander series. Much like the 2nd book, A Dragonfly in Amber, this book takes a long time to get going. It isn't until part 5 or 6 that the book really finds its form. But unlike Dragonfly, which struggles to maintain its momentum, Voyager drives forward full bore and doesn't look back. (SPOILER ALERT) Once Clair returns to the past and reunites with Jamie, the story is all fire and fury. Moving along at such a clip so as to leave you dizzy at times, and occasionally going back to reread little parts here and there. The series has officially entered the cartoonish fantasy world with the series of unfortunate and unbelievable events that befall our main characters, and it occasionally makes a comic book villain out of the antagonists. There are also some very gaudy sex scenes that detract more from the story than they add to it. That being said, by this point in the series you are invested and it is easy enough to look past some of those faults. The last half of this book is the best writing thus far in the series, thought the first half makes you pay for it with achingly slow story development. But in the end, this book sets the stage nicely for the next installment and does a much better job of leaving your eager to continue than the previous 2 books did.
