A heart-breaking secret has kept Brooke on the edge for years. She's done what she has had to do to tamp down her guilt, guilt over what happened, guilt over the lies, guilt over the loss. Her reactions to that night have shaped her every move, every decision.Alex, grieving over the death of his son, and breakup of his marriage, decides to go back to his roots. He finds Brooke with the intention of cleansing his soul, but instead, threatens to topple her delicately balanced life.Sean is Brooke's husband, and father of their daughter, Meghan. Sean knows Brooke is keeping something from him, but has no clue how big a secret it is. What he believes is his wife losing love and faith in him. What he doesn't see is his wife falling apart, and needing him desperately. This is a beautifully written novel. The wording and emotions conveyed wrenched at my heart throughout my reading. The relationships between the characters nearly painful to experience and felt very real. Ms. Ferriss has a unique gift of story telling, of tale weaving, to keep any reader involved. A warning though, there is definitely some uncomfortable details revealed and re-lived through flash-backs and discussion. I recommend this for anyone who really enjoys an emotional roller coaster of a Jodi Picoult or a Nicholas Sparks novel.Submitted for an honest review.RATING: 4.5HEAT RATING: HOT (due to graphic descriptions), no sexual contentReviewed by: LeighAnna Thomas for My Book Addiction and More

The book starts out with a painfully graphic birth scene and then becomes somewhat of a mystery for the next half of the book. For the most part, I liked it-Brooke, Alex and Sean were real characters-however, I did see some improbabilites in it which were distracting.
