About this audiobook
Pennyroyal Academy: Seeking bold, courageous youths to become tomorrow's princesses and knights….Come one, come all!
A girl from the forest arrives in a bustling kingdom with no name and no idea why she is there, only to find herself at the center of a world at war. She enlists at Pennyroyal Academy, where princesses and knights are trained to battle the two great menaces of the day: witches and dragons. There, given the name "Evie," she must endure a harsh training regimen under the steel glare of her Fairy Drillsergeant, while also navigating an entirely new world of friends and enemies. As Evie learns what it truly means to be a princess, she realizes surprising things about herself and her family, about human compassion and inhuman cruelty. And with the witch forces moving nearer, she discovers that the war between princesses and witches is much more personal than she could ever have imagined.
Set in Grimm's fairytale world, M.A. Larson's Pennyroyal Academy masterfully combines adventure, humor, and magical mischief.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wow, this one is a lot deeper and intense than expected! I love how the definition of a princess is reworked into something I'd love girls (and boys!) to aspire to, and the main character goes through a lot of great growth. Definitely recommended.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Cute, but nothing special. A prinnessified Harry Potter with a dash of 'A Little Princess'. Young girls will probably adore it and I can easily see it becoming a Disney Channel series.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was odd. When I started reading, I got right into it - the horror of the witch, the forest, the confusion of the protagonist. The next night, when I began reading, I felt bogged down. I'm not sure if the author started with a silly story - the fairy drillsargeant, etc., then added more horrific elements or vice versa, but things don't seem to mesh. There's a lot of really good ideas in here - the way the princesses fight the witches is great - but it feels like the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is book two of the Pennyroyal series.Evie finds that she doesn’t enjoy her family and decides to leave early for her second year at the Academy. She wants to enjoy her family, but she sees how they are different. She doesn’t enjoy the food anymore and feels that her sister doesn’t agree with her choices, so she writes a note and leaves without saying good-bye. When she leaves the Dragonlands, she discovers that she is famous. People want to give her things for saving the Academy and making life a little safer. It’s when she in a tavern that she witnesses princesses kill a woman. She escapes because they appear to be after her. When she reaches Demetra’s castle, they determine to let the Academy know. After traveling about and spending time with Demetra, they arrive back at the Academy to find it in chaos. Because of their success, the Academy is bursting at the seams. Everyone wants to be a Princess after Evie saved the Academy. She can’t go anywhere without Cadets noticing her. She, Demetra, Maggie, and Basil are all reunited. Remington has also returned. Their second year is much more difficult than their first and staying at the Academy gets harder and harder. Evie shockingly learns who the people were who killed the inn keeper’s wife. The Academy and Evie are still not safe. The witches are planning another assault, so training is most important. You’ll have all the characters you liked in the first book and meet new instructors. If you liked the first book, you’ll like this one just as much. Often book two isn’t as interesting, but this one works. I highly recommend the trilogy. I find the books very positive--I mean who shouldn’t want to be a princess (including the boys!)? Afterall, courage, discipline, compassion, and kindness aren’t bad qualities to apire.
