This was an enjoyable sequel to the first book, continuing Olive's adventures in her new house and her quest to understand the magic that surrounds her. I still felt one of the cats was too ridiculous, but other than that, no big complaints. Olive struggles against some dark magic so we see more of her personality and we also meet a new character, who I hope we see more of. I feel like maybe there were a few more illustrations in this book? Which I enjoyed, because they're fabulous. I'll continue on with the series and maybe I'll get used to stupid Harvey.

This follow up of the Shadows is about Olive trying to take over the magic the former owners possed. Many characters are turning their back on her because of the things she has done. A new friend is made and is basicly a wiz when it comes to medivel times. Olive tries to become solitary and it doesn't work so well for her. She also starts picking fights. Who's side are you on, Olives or her "friends"? Read this book, put more puzzle peices together about the magic that is in this house and choice your side.
