The plot is set in motion as Lady Conway disapproves of Diana's planning a desert trip with just her Arab guides to accompany her. Diana gets kidnapped by the Sheik, Ahmed Ben Hassan. E.M. Hull (1880 - 1947), also known as Edith Maude Henderson, was a London-born romance writer. She spent much of her youth traveling the globe, which would later inspire her future works. Hull began her writing career in the 1910s, with her first and most renown novel, The Sheik (1919). It was an international success that made her one of the most celebrated authors of the time. The story was so popular it was adapted into a feature film starring Rudolph Valentino, followed by the sequel, The Sons of the Sheik.
