About this audiobook

Kathleen Paulson enjoys her life as a small-town librarian with two extraordinary cats, Owen and Hercules, who provide companionship during the quiet times and have a remarkable talent for sleuthing when murder disturbs the peace....

The local businesses of Mayville Heights hope to convince Chicago-based company Legacy Tours to sell a vacation package for their town. Legacy Tours partner Mike Glazer grew up in Mayville Heights, but he's no longer the small-town boy people once knew. Even the local bootlegger has an issue with the bossy loudmouth Mike has become-until someone shuts him up for good.

When Kathleen discovers Mike's body on the boardwalk, she can't help but get involved in the investigation-even if her beau, Detective Marcus Gordon, would rather she didn't. Now, with a little help from Owen and Hercules, it's up to Kathleen to make sure the killer is booked for an extended stay in prison before someone else takes a permanent vacation.

This series is great for mindless fun reading. I’m not great at figuring out the whodunnit, but it’s nice to try and figure out.
My problem with this series is by now, book 4(?), and seein there are several more in the series, you have to wonder why people aren’t a little concerned about the number of murders which happen in their small town. I mean, if I were there in maybelle heights, I’d be like “look, Kathleen, you seem like a sweet lady and you’re a good librarian, but since you’ve moved here, there has been a sharp increase in deaths. Oh, sorry, MURDERS! I think you need to leave.”
    Beides that, a fun read.

Almost too cutesy, but this is the first book in the series that I have found. The mystery was just a bit obvious as well, but it was an enjoyable read for a fan of “cat cozies”.

I guess magic cat mystery is not the genre for me. The characters are not well fleshed out, one might even say personality-less (I have no idea how old anyone is- they could be 17 or 70). Maybe that happened in books 1-3 and they are supposed to be like old friends you talk about nothing with. Most of the novel is dialogue, and boring irrelevant dialogue about nothing. But why really bothered me was the main character's constant conversations with her cats. They steal your food, we get it. Not interesting once, not interesting twice a chapter.

A highly entertaining, escapist read, especially (and probably only) if you like cats. These are magical cats and they have very distinctive, strong personalities as well as "superpowers". They help Kathleen solve mysteries in her little Minnesota town, much to the consternation of the detective and chief love interest, Marcus.

I genuinely enjoyed the story overall - great characters, lots of solid dialogue and I really got 'into' the story and didn't want to put the book down. But I have to admit the mystery was a bit secondary to me in this one. I found myself not really caring one way or the other about the murder victim, the suspects, or whether it was solved or not. I *did* think the ending was a bit dumb - Kathleen is either dishonest or acting out of character at the end and it just felt like the author was forcing her character into a TSTL moment. Occupational hazard if you're a cozy writer, I guess.

Luckily, a new adventure with Owen and Hercules (the cats) comes out in October and I'll be looking for it.

When Mayville Heights decided to partner up with Legacy Tours to highlight their small town uniqueness, a former (and not very well liked) inhabitant, Mike Glazer, shows up as the rep for the tour company. It doesn't seem to matter how much Kathleen tries to stay away from trouble, the cats lead her right to another body. Detective Gordon doesn't always fully appreciate her meddling, but can't deny she somehow unearths small clues. The mystery meandered a bit this time, but the story was pretty good and interesting.

Kathleen is getting closer to Marcus--and still interfering in his cases, with a little help from her cats. These would probably go down better if read at more widely-spaced intervals. (I'm giving this four stars because I'm pretty sure that's how I'd rate it if I hadn't read three of these in a row.)

I really fell in love with all of the characters, especially the cats. I already loved cats but the book has made me notice things about my cats which made me love them more. It has the perfect touch of romance without being too sappy. The ending was a little disspointing because you dont find out if Kathleen and Marcus have a happy ever after in Mayville Heights. The author lets you imagine what the end is like. Over all it was an amazing book.

In Kelly’s paranormal cozy mystery novel, the businesses in Mayville Heights are working to convince a Chicago-based tour company to offer a package for their town. Mike Glazer of Legacy Tours grew up in the area, but he is not the young man he once was. From the moment he returns to town, he alienates the locals with his negative attitude. When Kathleen stumbles across his body on the boardwalk, she can’t stop herself from getting involved in the investigation even if Detective Marcus Gordon prefers it if she doesn’t. With Owen and Hercules and their “special talents”, Kathleen sets out to find a killer before he strikes again.Fans of cats and mysteries will love this installment to the A Magical Cats Mystery series. I for one can’t wait for the next book!
