      Ghost House (The Ghost House Saga #1) by Alexandra Adornetto is such a great book, it just ripped my heart out so many times! Oh, I can't tell you how awesome this ghost story is. Scary, wonderful, romantic, haunting beautiful and sad. A fantasy I am so glad I picked up from the library. This is sooooo good, I would read it again and I never re-read books! Yes, that good. LOVED it.

      Ghost stories aren't my usual cup of tea because I scare easily, lol! But I wanted to read something different and the cover of this book immediately grabbed my attention. This is the first book of the Ghost House saga. I have mixed feelings about this one though...On one hand the story is interesting enough that I finished it in one day. However, I feel the writing needs more depth and insight. I question why the main character - Chloe, fell in love with Alex so quickly given that he is a ghost and their interactions weren't sufficient to warrant a romance. Same goes with Joe, why was he willing to be in harms way for Chloe when they clearly just met? Intriguing story for sure, but it lacks depth. That being said, I'm curious to read the 2nd book - Ghost Hour to see what happens next and to find out if some of the unanswered questions in Ghost House will be addressed.

      Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: This novel was easy to read, with an unfortunate case of insta-love that marred my appreciation.Opening Sentence: I sensed the ghost before I saw her.The Review:In Ghost House, Chloe is moving in for the summer to her grandmother’s old mansion in Europe, far away from the Los Angeles hubbub of noise and people that Chloe has come to expect. She’s always had a power to see people that others cannot, people who have passed, but no one has believed her in the past. Except for her mother. Unfortunately, after her mother passes away, the fragile defenses Chloe had built up to keep the ghosts at bay are starting to crumble. The ghosts are coming back, more powerful than before. Moving to Grange Hall isn’t helping her dilemma.There are ghosts here, as well, in more gruesome forms of death than Chloe has ever experienced. And there is a story holding these ghosts together, one Chloe is determined to discover. It all centers around Alexander Reade, the mysterious, attractive ghost that Chloe just may be falling for, even though it’s a relationship doomed to end. Vicious Isobel will stop at nothing to destroy Chloe and get back Alex, and through pieces of the puzzle that are revealed one after another, a story of their lives starts to form. Can Chloe defeat the strong, destructive ghost determined to end her? Or will she and the people she cares about be laid to ruins?All over the place people were falling in love with Chloe. It was incredibly annoying. She wasn’t a horrible main character, but at the same time, I couldn’t detect that special quality everyone else wanted. She had a gift to see ghosts. Good for her. Why does that mean that guys are falling for her all over the place? Insta-love, the bane of my existence, and you can trust that it’s pretty instant in Ghost House. She’s smart, I guess, and seems sensible enough. (Except for that falling-for-a-ghost bit.) Her appearance isn’t mentioned often, but she’s pretty. She’s not amazingly funny or compassionate or courageous though. There isn’t any strong quality that makes her different than many other human beings. And yet after days, you see Joe start to love her. And after a couple days with Alex, he’s admitting the strange chemistry that he’s only felt once before, something that alludes…To love.Okay, so Alex is cool and all that, and I get that he’s had 150 years to figure it all out, but he was too perfect a character to seem realistic. There’s this one time that Chloe freaks out over something that he does, but honestly, I agreed with his decision. Their relationship was the only thing flawed about Alex. There’s this whole he’s a ghost, thing. You can’t be in a relationship with a ghost. One, he’s invisible to everyone else. Two, he’s not a corporeal form, and though she can touch him sometimes, he still isn’t real. To conclude this short list, it can’t happen. Another of my complaints is that she was ready to have sex after they talked a few times, and I’m not even sure if they had kissed at that point. For some reason they could touch each other then, and Chloe was ready to go all the way. Thankfully the dead guy had more sense than her and shut it down.I did a lot of complaining in this review, but I didn’t hate the book. I thought it was enjoyable and I didn’t have much trouble reading it. The writing style was simple, easy to sink into. The world that was created was somewhat flawed, but overall, the descriptions of Grange Hall and the ghost were well done. I squirmed a couple times at the gruesome images planted in my hand of bloated bodies and rotting teeth. There was quite the unexpected plot twist at the end of the book that makes me think it could have a sequel, though it also could standalone. The twist made me smile. It was so out of the blue! It’s just an easy read. If you want a little ghostly action and aren’t bothered by insta-love, this might be the book for you.Notable Scene:“Are you staying at Grange Hall?” I asked, wanting to deflect attention from myself.“I suppose you could say that.” I waited for him to elaborate, until it was clear he wasn’t going to.“I’m Chloe Kennedy,” I said awkwardly.       The only way I can explain myself for having read this book is that it was right there in the library. I stared at it, shrugged and said, "I'm not paying to read it." That's 30 minutes I'll never get back.

      Just what the freaking hell was the point to it? Why should I care about any of those half-assed characters? Ugh, Alexandra Adornetto seems to be one of those authors that doesn't learn over time and just keeps repeating the same mistakes.

      The Good Stuff Ghost story - I love me some good ghost stories Fast paced and some twists and turns Mood is wonderfully set Likeable characters and Chloe herself is someone that you can feel a connection to Dark humour and some lovely witty dialogue Story ends with a cliffhanger that will keep you waiting for the next installment of the trilogy Author is a fabulous storyteller I want to live at Grandma Fee's house with her lovely library Enjoyed the old bitty paranormal investigators Mention of a Pimm's CupThe Not So Good Stuff A wee bit teen angsty and I never buy a story where a human and a ghost are in love - cuz - well - this is a teen book, I won't go into details - but think about it Did I mention the main character is romantically involved with a dead guy - I know, I know but the practicalities involved with this are mind boggling Could use some more background storyFavorite Quotes/Passages"Don't get me wrong; she wasn't unfeeling.
