      Good but a lot of parts cut out and missed some important dialogue. This is the only issue I had other than that , it was great!

      Good until 2/3 in when it gets bogged down in an exposition dump, and doesn't quite recover its pacing.

      This was fun. It could be the end of the series but doesn't have to be. It's not a bad stopping place if Kadrey is tired of writing these characters. But, it can continue, too.

      It amused me that in the middle of a drought in California, the book is set in a monsoon in LA.

      This one was slow to start, but ends in a bang. I still feel like Stark's whole relationship with the Vigil is pretty implausible, but the book works despite it.

      It's been fascinating to watch Sandman Slim--James Stark--change over the course of this series. He's still a dick, he'd still almost rather burn the universe down than save it, but he's different now. He has friends. Ties. He might learn to use a coffeemaker. And right now, this asshole is the only thing standing between humanity and a bunch of elder gods who want to take back their world only to kill us all. Almost nobody trusts him to save us, not even himself.

      If you enjoy characters I refer to as "dickish wizards," then you'll really like Stark. He's been enslaved and ruled in Hell, he's friends with parts of God, and the hellhounds just love him.

      I enjoyed this and I have no idea why. A bunch of characters we've grown to like, preventing yet another apocalypse set in a post-paradise-lost urban fantasy San Francisco. Sprinkle with swering and violence.

      Stark has to try to sort out the Angra Om Ya, the old gods, who plan to destroy our universe, without using any of the very very destructive tools at his disposal. He's now working with the Golden Vigil and they're vaguely happy with that, some more than others. He's trying to be good, to cooperate but things aren't always easy and his habit of acting first and asking forgiveness later is going to catch up with him eventually. One of the things he's chasing is a serial killer who looks like he's a man Stark exiled to a lower level of hell, and if he's back Stark really wants him dead, again.It's not bad, felt a little tired but was an interesting read.

      Another wild and crazy ride into Sandman Slim's world.. Lots of action as well as romance in the background. It feels like I'm right in the story with Stark... Bravo Kadrey ! Excellent read. I actually slowed down my reading towards the end because I didn't want leave this wondrous and engrossing landscape.

      I got an eGalley of this book from Edelweiss for review. I have been a huge fan of all of the Sandman Slim books, although I will say the last couple had slowed down a bit in pace. This book did not disappoint, it picked up pace and resolved a major storyline that had been dragging on for some time. This book mainly deals with Stark aka Sandman Slim as he works to prevent the Angra Om Ya (the Old Gods) from entering this realm and destroying Earth. In addition to that there is a new serial killer in town who likes to reduce people to their separate parts and Stark is trying to help the Golden Vigil track down that killer as well. There is also a side story about Candy getting very sick and we learn a lot more about her Jade nature.As with all the books in this series this is a very very adult book. There is a lot of over-the-top violence and gore and swearing and any other thing you can think of that might be offensive. Stark is still as snarky and offensive as ever. He is the pin-up boy for anti-heroes. Despite all his rough edges he is doing his best for mankind and the world he lives in...he just does it his way. He has actually obtained some balance and happiness in his life and it was fun to see that. That’s not to say that Stark as mellowed, he just seems a bit happier with things.As with previous books this book has a very dark somewhat noir vibe to it and is darkly humorous. There are lots of one-liners and references to obscure movies (some of which I got, some of which I didn’t). The Golden Vigil features throughout the book. Stark works with them quite a bit. We also run into a lot of different Angra Om Ya gods and their rather crazy worshippers.Overall I loved this book, it ties up the Angra Om Ya storyline nicely and leads into the next chapter of Stark's life. I always really enjoy these books and hope that the series continues. I would recommend this whole series to fans of gritty and violent urban fantasy. It’s been a very creative, action packed, and well done series that I enjoy reading a lot.

      This is book six in one of my favorite series. Everything you liked about the previous books will keep you turning the pages in this one! We visit with all of our favorite characters, the plot moves at a breakneck pace, and a satisfying, but unexpected, conclusion to previous story lines. After that ending I can't wait to see where Richard Kadrey takes Sandman Slim in the next book.
