- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good book full of character that is Betty White. It is her life, we are all just admiring it
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If this weren’t written by Betty White, who I adore, this would probably get two stars. And all I can think is that if I don’t have something nice to say about such a lovely person’s writing, I just shouldn’t say anything at all. I’m having flashes to when the Friends would go see Joey’s play and say things like “the costumes were GREAT.” “The lighting, whew, spot on.”
I think this book is meant to be a cute gift book, a stocking-stuffer with some Betty White reminisces with a few words of wisdom thrown in. It was less than three hours as an audio book but still took me nearly a month to finish because I just wasn’t that interested. And it pains me to say that.
The chapters where she discusses her love of and experience with animals were quite sweet, and some of the stories from when she was first starting out were quite cool. But I can’t bring myself to recommend this. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Quick, very fun read!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a delightful meander through memories and daily life by the delightful Betty White. It's organized topically rather than chronologically, and covers the wide range of Ms. White's interests, including acting, writing, her family and friends, and of course her dedication to helping animals.
Some of the reminiscences included are working on the three hit tv shows that have defined her acting career--The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland. She also talks about her entirely unexpected and at first not entirely welcome guest host stint on Saturday Night Live, as the result of a spontaneous, popular Facebook campaign. In the end she enjoyed the experience, but initially she dreaded it, because she's just not accustomed to the kind of comedy that defines SNL.
Ms. White's many fans in the animal rescue world will be pleased that she also includes several reminiscences about her own pets and some of her pet rescue activities--although in a typically modest way that belies her impact.
It would be wrong to say anything more about this book. It's an enjoyable read, and if, as I did, you listen to the audiobook, Ms. White herself reads it in her own thoroughly engaging style.
Recommended. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I listened to this one just this afternoon read by Betty White herself. I don't listen to many audio books and my biggest criticism of this one is that it actually sounded like she was reading the book to me. I like the audio to sound more like a conversation than beng read to.
I like Betty White and I liked this book. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Who doesn't love Betty White?! I can only hope I am as cool as she is when I get her age. I listened to the audiobook of this and she narrated it herself. This was a sweetly charming memoir where she touched on many aspects of her life. The audiobook made you feel like you were sitting down having a nice little chat with her about many topics such as her career, friendships and her love of animals.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love Betty White!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I highly recommend the audio version, read by Betty herself.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's Betty freakin' White! Duh!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was an absolute Joy I learned so much laughed a little had a little sadness to but mostly Joy!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was great book. It was funny and love the fact that she read it to you. Aslo fast pace book. I finish in 1 day.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed listening to Betty so much, she feels like a friend now!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was wonderful to hear her memories in her own voice with her own passion for the subjects. A wonderful read!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5How can you not like this. It's Betty White after all! ?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sweet and gentle life musings from everyone’s favorite grandma. I loved this glimpse into Betty White’s life. She’s passionate about animals and her television work. She certainly has a optimistic view of life and this was a quick breath of fresh air.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A short book, filled with Betty's thoughts and observations on a variety of subjects. I listened to it on audio and loved hearing her voice one more time. : )
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I couldn't get this in audio here in Australia - which was my first choice - but I did run across a used copy of the hardcover at a sale, so I was finally able to read this. It's a very fast read, made up of individual essays covering what is, I'm guessing, the most popular topics she's asked about. Her stories regarding her career and her celebrity were interesting and sometimes laugh out loud funny, but I was really in it for the stories about her involvement with animals. I was not disappointed. I admit Betty White didn't interest me one way or the other until she became the fully employed actress in her 80s that she is (was - she's in her 90s now); she has become the poster woman, along with my mom, Betty White's contemporary, for how to age with grace and independence. I hope I'm lucky enough to have my mom's health and Ms. White's humour and enthusiasm for life when (if) I hit my 80th decade and beyond.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's Betty White - enough said!!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5cute quick read that gives a little insight into the personal and professional life of Betty White as well as her opinions on relevant topics of today.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a memoir/advice book and it was great to hear Betty narrate but wasn't quite as witty as I was expecting. Some of the more serious parts were heartfelt and moving. I liked it more than I didn't like it so I gave it three stars.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I love Betty White and in this book she admits that writing is her favorite thing. This book took about an hour to read and is just a bunch of random thoughts and photos that I'm not sure warranted a published book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you Ask Me: And of Course You Won't narrated by the author, Betty White, is simply delightful.
She talks about all kinds of different subjects, but the majority of them involved animals and how much she loves them. And I love that about her.
The only flaw I found with this is that it was too short. I love you Betty, but I needed more!
If you adore Betty White, then I highly recommend you listen to her narrate this audiobook! - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5From the book jacket - Seven-time Emmy winner Betty White’s wit and wisdom take center stage as she tackles topics like friendship, romantic love, aging, television, fans, love for animals, and the brave new world of celebrity. My ReactionsI feel a little mean not liking this more. I love Betty White, and some of the essays in this book are spot on perfect. But it’s pretty lightweight in substance, and I felt a little like I was on one of those obligatory visits to an elderly relative when I was a kid … I sat politely and tried not to fidget, but all I could think of was when I’d be able to go play. It’s a very fast read, and includes several photos.Still, giving credit where credit is due, White is a lovely woman and has a keen sense of humor. There were sections that were completely delightful. I’d love to have her at my table at a dinner party! It just didn’t satisfy what I look for in a reading experience (yes, even from a celebrity memoir). I’ll continue to watch and enjoy her performances, but I’ll read something else.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book--I love the way Betty writes. I just wish there was more to it. I'm going to have to go back and read her other books!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I chose to listen to this book on Audible because of Betty White's soothing voice and it's similarities to my dearly departed grandmother's voice. I felt as if they were very similar people in many ways, but after this listen I'm not so sure.
Betty reads a book about her own life as if she's reading about someone she doesn't know. I'm not sure if the reading is bland or if the story is, but I felt as if a story with the possibility for emotion in some places was left as flat as the paper before being read. I kept waiting for Betty to expand on some of the stories that felt like they had the potential to be whole chapters on their own, yet I was let down each time and it seemed as if most stories circled around to the 2011 SAG Awards.
Forty-plus chapters of teaser stories that started my emotions and imagination going on what Betty White must be like as a person when she isn't doing "actor stuff" or before she was famous, all to be let down by short endings and lots of references to one award in 2011. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not too many of us make it into our 90's, let alone doing so at the top of our game. Granted, Betty White wrote this book when she was a spritely 89, but it was still amazing to hear her lecture about success -- and how her greatest fear is screwing things up when they are going as good as ever before. For someone who had a long, successful show biz career, the notion that the "golden years" have been the best for this lone surviving Golden Girl is a testament to her strength and continued wit.If you're looking for an acerbic Betty White from some of the TV comedy specials, you'll be a little disappointed (frankly, I think this is what I was expecting). Here we have some recent memoirs from an icon, as well as some insight as to what it's like to be an elderly star. We learn, for instance, one of her fears is that she will die and leave her study a complete mess.We hear stories about others, too...nothing particularly juicy. One gets the impression she would join you for a beer if you just ask, and would probably be endlessly entertaining with her reserve of stories. It was a cute book; if you like Betty, you learn more anecdotes about her by reading this book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Winsome and warm, but not much more than that.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Betty White. When I saw this I knew I had to listen to it. Half of her charm is her voice and the way she speaks. It was just a slice of her life and so much fun!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Betty White's short stories about her life are perfect listening while driving to work. You feel like it is a chat with her. She's recorded the audio version of the book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This wasn't really what I was expecting. It was just a smattering of gentle, quiet, warm-hearted 2 page stories about life and mostly about pets. I really enjoyed all the photos and it is hard to not get the warm/fuzzies when thinking of Betty White, so I still enjoyed it.
The only thing that bothered me was the constant underlining, almost every page had a few words that were underlined. It was like a cute old lady quirk. I think I'm going to have to pick up one of her earlier books to see if she writes any sassy quips in them.
