Excellent and practical writing advice. LaMott is such a gifted storyteller, that this talk is more entertaining than most audiobooks I’ve listened to. But it is equally informative, with tips that you can put into practice. It’s also great that this talk was given before the internet and smart phones became the norm for research. Highly recommend.

Very good! Rather than being a generic writing lecture that offers tips, tricks, or time savers, this is a personal exploration of writing through the eyes of author Anne Lamott. Lamott is known for creating fiction with autobiographical roots and here she gives candid, humorous advice on how to create from your own experience.

The part with the hyper achiever was absolutely brilliant!
    Loved the part a lot.
    Thanks for the book.

Starts slow, babbling on about kids. Might be useful of you skip the first 30 minutes or so.

I loved this. So funny. She spoke to my wounded little writer's heart.

I feel like I can do one more lap. And try again... ironically, that was probably not her intention or the purpose of the "class". ?

I loved the content and felt really inspired. If you’re a writer, you should definitely give this a listen. I had to pause the talk to go and write for a few hours then come back to it. I will relisten to this whenever I’m feeling stuck.

Know that this is a CD recording of a past workshop and there will be interruptions when the CDs are announced (which I found funny) and the chapters don’t make much sense. I think she says her son is 6 in this, and she’s now a grandmother so this is old but still very relevant.

Bird by bird was great but you need to hear from Anne directly. This course is her voice to you. We’re lucky this is on Scribd- a blessing. And btw, she’s telling you you’re too lazy to be a writer in case you can’t see through the humor and kindness she provides. Writing’s hard and it’s easy to say that’s your dream but so easy to put off the work. I know.

As always, Anne gives us practical writing advice that you can’t get anywhere else, and somehow manages to also nourish your soul. You can only win by listening to this.
