About this audiobook

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Ella and Micha series comes a gripping story of passion, pain, and the courage to love . . .

THE TEMPTATION OF LILA AND ETHAN

On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect façade. She'll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden-which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there's only one person who's there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.

Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn't do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila's pretty princess image, Ethan can't deny they have a deeper connection than he's used to. If he's not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he's learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.

When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her?

Lila and Ethan... This is the story we all wanted, well I did. It wasn't what I was expecting. It was what I was expecting.

These two try their best to keep their friendship in the friend zone, despite their apparent attraction to one another. This whole story is a fight of the two of them trying to survive alone but together. They try to maintain what they think should be between them.

Circumstances land them together... but do they want to be together?

I am not going into any details about this story-line. A lot happens, and I don't want to give anything away.

I truly enjoyed this book. Although, I think these series spin-offs are getting to be a bit much for me. I can't seem to keep them straight anymore. There is just too much from one book to another to remember and keep track of. If you are able to separate them and combine them where needed, you should absolutely love this book!

This is the third book in The Secrets series. It can be read as a stand alone but it's so much better if you at least read The Secret of Ella and Micha first, where you first meet both Lila and Ethan.

Lila Summers is the definition of beauty. She is beautiful, she comes from a very wealthy family, she loves beautiful things and gorgeous clothes. She is flawless, happy, and has a beautiful big smile. But that's all superficial and what is on the outside. But what is on the inside is dark, ugly, and broken. With a dark and devastating past, a troubled home life, and a very broken family, Lila will do anything to keep the darkness buried very deep.

"...Be flawless. Shine bright. Never, ever do anything less than excel..."

"...We have expectations and standards to live up to. We must be perfect on the outside, despite what's on the inside..."

"...She never does anything right. I'm so sick and tired of the drama. Either she needs to straighten up or she needs to go..."

"...She forgot to tell me about the illusion of love and the darkness that comes with it. That eventually when the illusion is gone, the walls close in on you, crush you, and all you're left with is feeling more unloved, and worthless than you did before..."

Ethan Gregory is a lot more than your typical bad boy. He may be sexy as all get out with his brown eyes, black hair, holey jeans, and tattoos, but there is so much more to Ethan. Ethan also comes from a broken home that has left him with a fear if relationships. He has a dark past as well that he is running from but not ready to let go of. So now he lives by a set of rules and keeps his friends at arms length.

"...A year ago I was an average guy going to school, and getting decent grades. Now I'm an almost seventeen - year - old high school dropout who's sitting in some druggies' house, unsure how the hell I got here..."

"...I'm trying to figure out why I'm still here. I know why I came here..."

"...I've always secretly wished I could just leave all my stuff behind hitchhike across the country and write about what I see and feel and how much I hate being around people and the world and the constant chattering. It always feels like there's the rest of the world and then me..."

Lila carries the image of the pretty princess and Ethan carries the image of the off limits bad boy, but these two opposites find that they share a deep connection and a friendship that outsiders can't make sense of. Can they find a way to deal with their dark pasts and move past? Can Lila finally let go of the emptiness and find self respect and self love? Can Ethan finally let go of his guilt and the past? Can they both pick up the pieces and move forward? Can they let go of the rules and reach out for what's right in front of them or is that risk just too much?

"...I can see it in her eyes sometimes, when she gets really quiet. Sadness. Self - Doubt. Self - Torture, even..."

"...I want someone who will love me like Micha loves Ella. I want someone - anyone - just to love me..."

"...Break me. Throw me away. You don't want me. Of course you don't. No one does..."

"...And who knows, maybe we'll turn out to be one of the lucky ones. Either way it's worth the risk..."

Jessica Sorensen once again has completely captivated me. Lila's story is so dark and so beautifully sad that you will not want to put this book down for a single moment. And wait until you really get to know Ethan! He is a favorite on my list of book boyfriends now. He is a big delicious bowl of awesomesauce! This is truly a dark and sad story of two beautiful and broken people and their struggles to finding themselves again. I love Jessica Sorensen and the magic her beautiful words create. This may be a bit of a darker story but it is moving and it plays itself out in an incredible and moving way. And the end..... oh the end, will leave you on your seat begging to have the next book at hand! I loved the story so much and am happy to give it a Nerd Alert A or 5 stars! Next book. ...here I come!

The pills keep away the memories and feelings of what happened last night, along with many other nights in my past. And not remembering them is important. Pain equals unwanted emotions, meltdowns, embarrassment.

There is no easing into Lila and Ethan’s story; you are thrust directly in the deep end, gasping for air as you struggle to breathe right along with them. I have a list of characters I’ve read over the years who tug at your heart, so broken down by life, every being of your soul aching for them. Lila is almost at the top, only surpassed by one. I will admit that from the beginning I didn’t know where this was going…..

It’s amazing how one moment in life can be beautiful, and then you return home-to reality-and remember that beauty isn’t everything and that the ugly painful part will always exist in the form of unpaid bills, bad choices, and tiny white pills.

This is the story of Lila and Ethan, the best friends of Ella and Micha from the previous two books. You don’t really NEED to read those first, though you should because they are THAT good! Jessica Sorensen has a way of writing that literally grabs you from the first sentence of the first page. She grabs you by the heartstrings and you cannot breathe until the last page is over. God forbid there be a sequel and you are left with a cliffhanger. Talk about major book hangover!!

I think I may have just fallen in love with him. No one has ever said something so nice to me or put that kind of confidence in my character. In fact, I’ve been told the opposite for as long as I can remember.

Honestly, I have never hated someone’s parents in a book as much as I hate Lila’s. To even call them her parents is doing a major disservice to the word, for they are anything but! These are vile, disgusting people who should have never had kids to begin with, They care only about themselves and keeping up with appearances, though in reality their lives are as far from perfect as you can get. They constantly cut Lila down until she is threadbare, and even when she is lying on the ground they metaphorically kick her some more. Lila has absolutely NO self confidence and uses sex in an attempt to feel something, anything.

Because what I’m feeling right now, this terrifying, cliff falling, heart dropping, thoughts racing, plunging into unknown was far from anything I ever felt for London.

Enter Ethan. Ethan has his own broken past, for different reasons than Lila. He carries around a lot of guilt and burden on his shoulders and cannot escape his past. He despises large crowds, preferring the solitude and quiet to people. Despite all this, he is the only person Lila can turn to. The attraction between these two, despite how much they try to ignore it, jumps off the page. Like moths to a flame, try as they might, they can only fight their desire for so long. Needless to say when they finally give in, it is pure magic.

Perfect doesn’t exist. Realness does. Realness is when I need. And Ethan is as real as anyone I’ve ever met.

I have never rooted for a couple quite like I did for them. The road isn’t easy. Many bridges need to be crossed. There were definitely many struggles and life affirming changes to be made. A lot of self reflection and hard truths. This was by far a 5 star read for me. I cannot wait to see what Jessica comes out with next!

Fiercely. Forcefully. With heat, desire, and hunger suffocating both of us as we drown in each other’s feelings. Our bodies align and press together as I kiss her with all the pent-up energy I’ve been collecting since the first day we met. I’ve lost all control over my actions. Rules don’t exist. The past and the future dissolve and only this moment exists.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Entertaining story full of sexy times and drama. Fans of the series and Sorensen will find this a great addition to The Secret Series.Opening Sentence: Beauty. Vanity. Perfection. The Review:Lila Summers has spent her whole life as a disappointment to her parents. They have always expected perfection and when she didn’t live up to that they sent her off to boarding school. There she learned a lot of life lessons the hard way. Now she is in college and she seems to always get herself in bad situations. Since her best friend and roommate recently moved away there is only one person she can rely on to always bail her out and that is Ethan Gregory. He is totally gorgeous and Lila has no problem messing around with guys, but the one time things started heading that direction Ethan put on the breaks. They have been friends ever since, but there is still tons of undeniable attraction between the two.Ethan doesn’t do relationships. He tried it once and things didn’t work out so he has promised himself that it will never happen again. He can’t deny that he is very attracted to Lila and she makes him feel things that he hasn’t felt with anyone in a very long time. If he doesn’t keep his feelings and urges in check he knows that he won’t be able to resist her for much longer. And Ethan doesn’t know if he can handle Lila let alone the heartbreak that will come if things don’t work out.Lila was an interesting girl and I was torn on how I felt about her. I felt bad that she had such a rough childhood and crappy parents, but some of the life choices she made were pretty blatantly stupid. It was sometimes hard to like her because she did so many dumb things. On the flip side of things she had a great voice and I found that being inside her head was pretty entertaining overall. I had a hard time connecting with her completely but I still felt that she was a good character.Ethan was such a sweet and gorgeous guy that has had a rough time in relationships. I think my biggest problem with Ethan was that he really wasn’t all that memorable. It has been about a week since I read this book and I am having a hard time remembering his story at all. He was just your average broken bad boy that needs the right girl to fix him. He was sweet and he treated Lila really well, but there wasn’t really anything that stood out about him. This was a sexy read full of lots of steam and drama. This is the first book in the series that I have read. It stood on its own just fine and I never felt lost or confused as to what was going on. I wonder if I would have felt more of a connection to the characters if I had already been introduced to them prior to reading this? I liked the characters just fine but they were pretty forgettable to me and I think that I would have enjoyed their story more if I already had a small connection to them. This was still an entertaining read and I flew right through it. I wouldn’t say that it was really original but if you are a fan of Sorensen or like this series, I think that you will be very pleased with it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new adult book full of steam and drama.Notable Scene:“I didn’t do anything… I don’t think anyway. I just need a ride,” I say in a whiny voice because I’m tired and filthy and disgusting.“Again?” he replies, pretending to be annoyed but I’ve gotten to know him well enough to know he really isn’t. He just likes people to think he is because he likes to seem tough and a badass. But I know he’s not. He’s actually really sweet and talks and listens to me and gives me candy canes. I still have a drawer full of the ones he gave me, unable to eat them or throw them away because then it feels like I’m losing a nice moment in my life with a guy and those kind of moments are very rare, if nonexistent.“Are you there?” he says, interrupting my thoughts.“Yes, I need a ride again.” I sink down on the curb, attempting not to think of candy canes and red lacy bras. That was a one-time thing. We both agreed that there would be no hooking up. Although, I agreed to it only because he seemed so eager to make it clear it would never happen again. “So will you or won’t you come pick me up?”“God, you’re snippy today,” he remarks with humor in his tone. “And I don’t think I want to deal with it today. I’m too fucking tired from the woman I screwed last night. She really wore me out. Plus, I have to be to work later today.”“Don’t be an ass.” I scowl, even though he can’t see me. “Please quit messing around and just come get me. Pretty please.”He pauses and then sighs, defeated. “I’ll come get you though, but only if you say it.”“I’m not going to say it, Ethan. Not today.” I prop my elbow on my knee and rest my chin against my hand. He wants me to tell him that I’ll be his sex slave, something he made me promise to say the last time he picked me up. He doesn’t really want me to be one, though. He just thinks he’s funny.FTC Advisory: Forever/Hachette Book Group provided me with a copy of The Temptation of Lila and Ethan.
