- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I became aware of this book while listening to The Yolanda Adams Morning Show. I immediately went to Borders after work and purchased the book. The book is written in daily format, so the reader reads a chapter for each day of the fast. This fast is based on biblical scriptures, but this isn’t a deterrent for those individuals who aren’t looking to be “preached” to.Each day, Ms. Singletary writes the foundation for the lesson we are to learn. She provides testimonies from past participants of the financial fast. There’s also the opportunity to keep a journal with suggested journal topics and format. At the end of the book, the author provides budget forms, spending journal example and scripture verses.I didn’t know what to expect when I started this fast. I thought I would learn a lot about my spending habits, which I did. However, I was able to understand why I spend money on items that I want, but most importantly I now see how I have limited God’s role in my finances. Yes, it was a difficult fast for me (most days I just wanted to give up or cheat just a little), but when I committed myself to continue for the 21-day period, that is when the understanding and awareness came. I know this will not be the last time I participate in a financial fast.
