About this audiobook
Phoebe Hall’s Manhattan life is unexpectedly derailed off the fast track when her long-term boyfriend leaves her just as she is accused of plagiarizing her latest bestselling celebrity biography. Looking for a quiet place to pick up the pieces, Phoebe jumps at the offer to teach at a small private college run by her former boarding school roommate and close friend Glenda in a sleepy Pennsylvania town.
But behind the campus’s quiet cafés and looming maple trees lies something darker. The body of a junior co-ed washes up from the nearby river, and soon rumors begin to swirl of of past crimes and abuses wrought by a disturbing secret society known as The Sixes.
Determined to find answers and help Glenda, Phoebe secretly embarks on a search for clues—a quest that soon raises dark memories of her own boarding school days. Plunging deeper into danger with every step, Phoebe knows she’s close to unmasking a killer. But with truth comes a deeply terrifying revelation: the past can’t be outrun . . . and starting over can be a crime punishable by death.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nice easy listen
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Sixes is set on a college campus, where Phoebe has found herself teaching after her latest bestseller has her accused of plagiarism. When students start disappearing, and bodies start turning up, Phoebe throws herself into an unofficial investigation. As she digs deeper, she begins to discover evidence of a female secret society known only as The Sixes, which triggers her own memories about a tragic and terrifying event. This is one of those reads that flies by, that grabs you and doesn't let you go. As Phoebe learned more and more, I became more and more intrigued, and had to find out the solutions to the many mysteries surrounding the campus, the deaths, and The Sixes. The solution is definitely a surprise, and I like that the twists kept coming.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kate White writes great mysteries, always featuring smart, interesting female protagonists. This story takes place on a small college campus, and is full of compelling characters and unexpected plot twists.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Sixes tells the story of Phoebe Hall as she attempts to adjust to her new life as a small town college professor and the mystery that she finds herself wrapped up in. Because young college coeds are dying and the only hint that the authorities at the college have is of a "secret society" that has been rumored to have been the cause of lots of trouble in the past. Little is known of this secret society and Phoebe sets out to find proof that it exists while trying to keep her past behind her.The Sixes is one of those books that you don't want to put down. The author creates a chilling atmosphere in a small town college campus where everything (and everyone) isn't what it seems. This creepy atmosphere was one of my favorite things about the story. There is a constant hint of danger throughout the book that kept me turning pages. The setting is in the fall/early winter and the descriptions of the weather tied into the story so nicely. It just all added up to maintain the sinister feeling that the author was creating. I loved the idea of a secret society that isn't really up to any good, and I felt that the author really did a good job of building on the hint of mystery that went along with "The Sixes". I kept wondering what they were going to do next and how they were involved with the deaths that had occurred. This novel was definitely a page turner and I just didn't want to put it down. The ending itself was a surprise that I didn't see coming. I was a bit disappointed though as I felt like the author did such a great job on the creepiness factor with The Sixes and then the ending was a bit of a letdown. Just not what I expected but I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'll leave it at that. All in all, a really solid read with atmosphere in spades. I've heard that this author has written other books and I'm anxious to check them out.Bottom Line: A solid thriller that kept me on my toes throughout!Disclosure: This was kindly sent to me for review by the publisher. Thanks so much!!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Phoebe Hall, a celebrity biography writer accused of plagiarism, takes a job at a college to earn a living until the heat is off and she can get back to writing. When a student turns up dead, Phoebe is asked to investigate a secret society know as The Sixes. While the idea of a terrifying secret society of girls sounded like a good, creepy read, the book was disappointing. The writing was not very good--especially the dialogue and sex scenes. The characters were one-dimensional, the plot unbelievable and the society was pretty lame. It is a fast easy read however.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked the story but some parts were a little jumpy from time to time. I went back to see if I missed somthing and than forward and it went back to what I thought I missed. Phoebe was celebrating her a new book being on New York best seller 6 weeks. Thought everything was going well and then the bottom droped. Her guy dumped her. She was accused of using another writers work. Turns out a researcher for her put papers in wrong folder and she did not catch it. Media was all over her. They were holding off from publishing paperback book. her blog was dropped. A friend who now was President of a small college Lyle she needed someone to teach writing classes. She could get away from all the media. A female student went missing Lily. Phoebe realized that she had a conversation that looking back might be important. About mistakes she made and how she wanted to start over. Phoebe friend asked her to look into Lily disappearance to see if thier was a secret group of girls called the six. If they did exist what was purpose and were they harrassing other students. Because of Phoebe past and how she gets people to tell her things. Lily turns up drown in the river and a year earlier her boyfriend went missing. Someone starts breaking into Phoebe house and causing her problems like dead Rats in freezer. Trying to scare her off. Even when she changed the locks they kept getting in. Someone thinks thier is a serial murder around drowning students. Thier is drug use on campus, The more Phoebe asks questions the more problems are found at college. The story was good but thier were a lot of different story lines about bad stuff at college. As a mother of two girls in college did not like that. But I know its all out thier. It kept my attention. Would read more books written By Kate White. Was given this ebook in exchange for honest review.
