- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enjoying this series. He actually made it work too, finding Excalibur as a story line. Starting to get some back story with a disgruntled president, and the Atlantean gene popping up.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I like this genre of book, but found this author a little too over the top, formulaic and predictable. No more from this author.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Half historical, half thriller. I was hoping for more historical, but the thriller was intriguing enough to keep me hooked. The ending definitely leaves me wanting more. It contains an interesting take on the various people of the Arthurian legends. A big part of the book's humor is Eddie's crass use of language. The book also concentrated heavily on Eddie's and Nina's relationship as future spouses, which is great for people following the series, but a bit of a drag for others who just picked up this book (like me).
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This is more Tom Clancy than Dan Brown. The focus isn't much on the myth and legend of Excalibur and whether it might exist and where, but more on super-secret government agencies and advanced technology. It's not a deep story by any means. The characters are stock and the action is violent and non-stop. It's not really a spoiler to say the sword is found halfway through the book, but a twist happens to keep the good guys on the hunt. If you like constant action, give this a try. If you're looking for King Arthur, give this a pass.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Secret of Excalibur The Secret of Excaliburby Andy McDermottBantam Books 2010ISBN 978-0-0553-59295-5This was one of my first attempts at reading author Andy McDermott's works, and I was pleasantly surprised!Heroine, Nina Wilde leads fiancee, Eddie Chase, on a wild ride that leads from Bournemouth, England and it's gentile quiet surroundings, to Greece, Switzerland, Jordan, Syria, Austria, London, and even Moscow! From quiet towns by the sea, to ancient castles, to caverns beneath Glastonbury Tor that take them far beneath the earth's surface, spelunking and diving, to a nuclear Typhoon class submarine that is fast sinking in the ocean, this couple goes from one major, death-defying moment to another. All while being duped by a quadruple-agent spy for the world organization DAARPA.Think Indian Jones meets Robert Langford and the hunt for one of the world's most sought after treasures, King Arthur's fabled Excalibur, is on!You won't want to miss a single moment of this action-packed novel! If you love historical archaeology searches, and the fast-paced novels that usually are consigned to spy and thriller agendas, then this is the book for you!Watch as Nina, and Eddie, literally save the entire planet from possible destruction!Andy McDermott has 2 books prior to this featuring this duo, and another that came afterward. Bet you can guess, I'm heading to the bookstore now to get all three!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is book threee of McDermott's series featuring ex-SAS commando Eddie Chase and his archaeologist girlfriend Nina Wilde. While I am the first to admit I don't mind a bit of mindless fun in my reading, I am beginnning to wonder how long this formula can be sustained. Once again Chase and Wilde are tipped off that a supposedly mythological story is actually historical fact, on this occasion King Arthur's sword Excalibur. Once again they face a power crazed billionaire and his psychotic henchmen. Once again they spend most of the book arguing and threatening to break up with each other, and then at the end, we get to find out if, once again, they succeed and prevent the end of the world!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the 3rd book that I have read by this author and I am beginning to see some patterns in his writing. There always seems to be several chase scenes and the 2 main characters are always getting kidnapped by the bad guys but, then rescued either by the other main character or some other good guys. The relationship between Nina and Eddie continues but, when is the wedding? I do enloy these books as they are quick reads and sometimes you learn some history along the way. I didn't know that there was a sword before Excalibur, fact or fiction? I look forward to the next Wilde & Chase episode - wedding?
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5jst an average action fiction...nt mch to hold on too...too mch detail on action sequences which more often than not seems too dramatic to be anywhere to be real...and coming to think of it i was soo excited to read one of andy mcdermott's books given his intrstin choice of topics...bt a wastd effort
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excitement, thrills, tragedy, and difficult decisions surround Eddie and Nina as they rush from dilemma to dilemma.
