About this audiobook

Whoever killed Shiloh Merkin hated her and wanted her dead. Her brother-in-law, Wade, is accused of the murder. An Indian activist and zealous defender of Native Montana lands, despised by Shiloh's New Age women's group, his knife appears to be the murder weapon. But Alix Thorssen, art dealer and forgery expert, knows there is no artistry in slashing a woman's throat, and believes Wade isn't the killer. With help from a local cop, Alix follows a trail of moonlit rituals, sex, and legendary artifacts. Another murder leads her to a chilling confrontation with a killer.

I enjoyed this thriller. The setting in beautiful Montana and the native American culture were intriguing. The characters were believable, but I felt that the narrator - the solver of the mystery - was too ordinary to really care about.

The main character of The Bluejay Shaman is Alex Thorssen, art dealer and amateur sleuth from Jackson Hole, Montana. She is pulled into a murder investigation when she tries to help her sister's husband who has been arrested for the murder of Shiloh Merkin. The Bluejay Shaman is set in Montana and one of the major themes of the story involves how college academics and new-agers interpret Native American religious beliefs.

The plot works and the characters and dialogue are fairly well developed. The information in this book regarding art is very interesting, and I enjoyed reading about it. The plot had a promising premise but was slow to get moving. I found it difficult to get into and it was hard to read because of the poor editing job. This is the first of a series that has apparently ended so I can't imagine myself reading any more of her books.
