About this audiobook

Winner of the 2014 Golden Leaf Award

In one moment, high school teacher and single mother Brooke Davenport interrupts a vicious assault, saves a young woman’s life, and attracts the attention of a serial killer.

Sixteen years ago, Brooke lost her roommate to a brutal murder. Now she teaches women’s self-defense, still trying to heal from the guilt and grief that plague her. Convinced the predator knows his victims and is stalking his prey online, she is determined to find him before he strikes again. Her brother’s friend, Luke has the computer expertise to help. But Brooke’s unexpected desire for Luke complicates her investigation, and her fixation with the case provokes a deadly reaction from the killer.

Injured in terrorist bombing overseas, computer expert Luke Holloway is still haunted by flashbacks of his young assistant’s death in the explosion. But Luke can’t refuse the request of a deployed friend to look after his sister, Brooke. Taking on responsibility for Brooke’s safety threatens Luke’s tenuous recovery, especially after he develops feelings for her that transcend a promise to a friend. When Brooke saves a young girl from a brutal assault and becomes a killer’s obsession, Luke vows to protect her at all costs.

Melinda Leigh

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh is a fully recovered banker. A lifelong lover of books, she started writing as a way to preserve her sanity when her youngest child entered first grade. During the next few years, she joined Romance Writers of America, learned a few things about writing a book, and decided the process was way more fun than analyzing financial statements. Melinda’s debut novel, She Can Run, was nominated for Best First Novel by the International Thriller Writers. Melinda’s bestselling books have garnered three Daphne du Maurier Award nominations and a Golden Leaf Award. When she isn’t writing, she is an avid martial artist: she holds a second-degree black belt in Kenpo karate and teaches women’s self-defense. Brooke Davenport is a math teacher and divorced mother of two teenagers. She also teaches a self-defense class for young woman to help assuage the guilt she feels regarding the murder of her college roommate. She is suffering from survivor's guilt regarding Karen's death. When she answers screams and save another young woman from being kidnapped and killed, she becomes the focus of the killer and also obsessed with finding out who the killer is.Luke Holloway is suffering from survivor guilt too. He is a computer security expert who was in an explosion in Manila and watched his young colleague die. He carried her down many flights of stairs despite his own burns and other injuries but she didn't survive. Now Luke is dealing with nightmares and other fears. When his best friend asks him to look after his sister Brooke while he is deployed overseas, he agrees but he hadn't bargained with trying to save her from a serial killer. Brooke and Luke had also not bargained on falling in love but, through the course of the dangers they face, they do. Even though the serial killer has chapters where he is the viewpoint character, Ms. Leigh had me completely fooled about who the killer was. I fell for the red herrings she threw out and was very surprised to learn the truth. The story was well-written and filled with suspense. I recommend it.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:*eARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewShe Can Scream was a good, fast-paced thriller that will keep you engaged, and while I saw the whodunit coming, it was still a very enjoyable read with awesome characters that you can easily relate to.Brooke Davenport is a single mother struggling with a severe case of survivor's guilt following the murder of her best friend years before. She tries to assuage that guilt by teaching self-defense classes to young women in the hopes that she can stop it from happening to someone else. When she finds herself embroiled in a serial rapist and killer's tangled web and ultimately becomes his focus, she is forced to rely on the only man near enough at hand to lend assistance - and a blast from her past - her brother's best friend Luke.Luke Holloway is a work-a-holic suffering from a severe case of post traumatic stress after being involved in a high-rise bombing. After stopping back in his little home town to visit his grandma before he heads overseas on business, he is confronted with his teenage crush, his best friend's older sister. As things become dangerous in Brooke's life, Luke's protective instincts kick in and he sets out to do whatever is necessary to protect her and her family. All in all, She Can Scream was a action oriented and thrilling murder mystery with just enough side storyline and romance to make you feel like it's happening to someone close to you. I would definitely recommend it to Romantic Suspense and murder mystery/thriller fans!
