      Cooper Beach is a new paranormal romance series, A Dark Legacy. The story keeps you turning page after page. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

      I became a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz through her alter ego Jayne Castle, as I am a big fan of fantasy. As Jayne Castle, she introduced me to paranormal romance, which I continue to read. I’ve especially enjoyed the Arcane series under all her nom de plumes. So, it is no surprise that I found Copper Beach a good read. I do have to say that I think having read all Jayne’s other paranormal romances helped provide the background for this novel. The hero and heroine go through some perilous adventures before the HEA, but one expects that from paranormal romance. I especially like the paranormal elements centered on rocks and gemstones. Jayne Ann Krentz’s paranormals remain one of my must reads.

      Jayne Ann Krentz is one of my all-time favorite authors, and I have most of her books written under her major pen-names (Krentz – contemporary romances, Jayne Castle – sci-fi paranormal romances, and Amanda Quick – historical romances). My biggest complaint with her writing recently has been her focus on the Arcane Society books; they have managed to show up under all of her pen-names and, while I like the series, I have really wanted her to get back to some stand-alone novels without paranormal elements. With Copper Beach, I got a little of my wish. This is the first book in a new contemporary paranormal series that will NOT be part of the Arcane Society. Krentz has also stated that this will not be a cross-over series under her other names (like Arcane has become), so it will be a lot easier to follow.

      In Copper Beach, we have Abby Radwell and Sam Coppersmith who are brought together when Abby receives a blackmail threat that threatens to expose her troubled past and ruin both her family’s reputation and her business one. Sam is the brilliant mad-scientist/consultant who has withdrawn to his family’s island after the unexplained murder of his last girlfriend. Both have paranormal abilities that have helped them with their chosen careers and will help bind them together. Sam will move in with Abby to help protect her and will manage to win over both her and her dog, Newton. Abby will overcome trust issues she gained when her family didn’t believe in her abilities, and fall for Sam. This is a very familiar formula to Krentz’s fans, but it works. Names and abilities will change, but the basics are generally the same. What makes it work are the characters.

      The character that resonated most with me was Sam. When a character is introduced to the heroine with a line like, “You’ve probably heard the rumors about Sam Coppersmith. Don’t pay any attention to them,” I am instantly intrigued. For some reason I like my heroes to be under a bit of a cloud – suspected of something, but too smart to have actually done what they were accused of. I guess that hint of mystery is appealing. Sam lived up to the promise and was strong, smart and sexy. While the above summary states he ans Abby were both mistrustful, this isn’t exactly the case; Abby mistrusts him, but Sam doesn’t seem to have any issue trusting her. It is instant attraction on his part, and he is ready to do anything and everything to make Abby part of his life and keep her safe. Sam is one of three children and has strong family ties to his brother Judson, sister Emma, and parents, Elias and Willow Coppersmith. We meet his parents but not his siblings in this book, although with the way Sam and his parents are depicted here I am really anxious to meet them in future books. Overall, it looks to be a very interesting family.

      Abby is a very solid heroine. I like her sense of humor and loyalty to her friends. Her family varies greatly from Sam’s and leaves a lot to be desired. We do get to meet all of her family (except her mother, who is dead) and, frankly, she’ll be better off as part of Sam’s family. Her father, Brandon, is a psychologist specializing in family dynamics, who is also a con-artist and womanizer. Her stepmother, Diana, is ready to divorce him but circumstances are preventing it at this time. Her stepbrother, Dawson, is the financial head of the family who has just lost everything in a Ponzai scheme. And her step-grandmother, Oranda Strickland, is a snobby, rich old woman who is convinced Abby and her father only want the Strickland fortune. Only her twin half-sisters, Jessica and Laura, are decent. None of her family believe in the paranormal, and they think Abby is crazy. Thankfully, Abby has some good friends in Gwen (an aura-reading counselor) and Nick (a bit of a thief with similar abilities to Abby’s) whom she met while attending a school for troubled youth that her family sent her to in her teens. Now, with all these interesting dynamics floating around her, you’d think I would find Abby to be the most compelling character. However, she reminded me a little too much of Krentz’s character Hannah in the book Eclipse Bay, especially with her devotion to her dog Newton who, in turn, was a bit of a knock-off of Hannah’s Schnauzer Winston. I guess this can happen when you’ve written as many characters as Krentz has.

      I liked the mystery of the blackmail threat and the murder of Sam’s previous girlfriend, as well as the threat of Lander Knox that was introduced in the first chapter, and was genuinely surprised on how it all played out. I did think it was brought to its conclusion a little abruptly and felt Knox might have been a really good villain to tie the series together; obviously, Krentz is going to be going in a different direction with future books and I look forward to seeing what she has up her sleeve. Dialogue is snappy and the editing is refreshingly good throughout. The only thing I wish was different was the use of the paranormal. I would have really liked to see her drop this aspect on this series and do straight mystery/romance instead. The last book of hers I recall like that is All Night Long, and it is still one of my favorites. I think it is just a little too easy to write yourself out of a corner when you have a character’s paranormal abilities to fall back on.

      With witty dialogue, great characters, and an intriguing mystery, Copper Beach is the first book in the new Dark Legacy series and definitely a recommended read for Jayne Ann Krentz fans. While the Arcane series is good, it is nice to have a change of pace and meet some new characters not connected to that world. I would like to see a new stand-alone non-paranormal book from Krentz again in the future, but to have her still writing this well after so many books is an incredible accomplishment in itself.

      Midline Krentz. It's a contemporary which is a plus but it has paranormal elements. But at least the paranormal stuff is not overpowering. The characters were pretty standard but interesting. The usual monologue where the villains explain how and why they did what they did takes place. And in this book we get it from at least two characters. Krentz does this a LOT in her books now and it's a real negative.

      OK to good so 2 1/2. Writing the review made me bump it down by thinking about it. There were points that I enjoyed but mainly it was just OK.

      The main problem I have with this is the discussion of everything. The writing was just too involved with the plot by the discussion. The ultimate moment of this is close to the end when the bad guy monologues for pages describing how he did every thing. It was very complex and in depth, there was no reason. Seemed like a waste of time and risky as the longer he took, the more likely he would get caught. I just cannot believe that to be reality. It was like something out of a cartoon. He would be nervous and ready to be done with it, not go in-depth. Also, if you are going to set up a criminal, you don't do it without telling someone what you are doing and have backup.

      Along with that monologue, the main characters think about and discuss their reactions and it becomes over kill. The story was pretty good but the telling of it left me thinking the characters were unrealistic so I just didn't relate well. And I just kept getting distracted from the plot by these too.

He has a lead on one who can read the crystals so he can claim what is owed him.Abby Radwell goes to Sam for protection.Sam Coppersmith knows crystals and powers that go with them and lives on his own island in the northwest. Abby has traveled there for help in someone trying to get money out of her for keeping her secret of the powers that she can use with the crystals.He was very taken with her and has agreed to help her with the problem.She can read auras and energy is her best friend.Intruders, step brothers and other complications arise in solving who is blackmailing her.Sam will be her bodyguard til they find out who wants the book. He has a plan that will work, it just means relocating her.He becomes educated as to her past escapades so he knows what he's up against.Love this book for the travel, romance, paranormal and new things I learned about magical powers.

      I always enjoy Jayne Ann Krentz in any of her pseudonyms. This books starts a new series called "A Dark Legacy". It involves the use of crystals for enhancing paranormal powers but also includes her trademark roller coaster ride of romance and danger.

      Abby is able to unlock psi locked "hot" books. Sam is a highly trained and powerful man who works in his family company that deals with very rare crystals. When they meet while searching for the same book it is chemistry and danger and love.

      I'll be enjoying more in this series as I catch up on my towering TBR pile!

      Originally published on my blog, My Urban Fantasies This was my first Jayne Ann Krentz novel. She is a very talented writer. Copper Beach was full of suspense, mystery, witty banter, a splash of paranormal and a little sarcasm. Nothing makes me happier than an author who appreciates the subtle art of sarcasm. Krentz has built an intriguing world; one exactly like our own except psychics are real, with a varying degree of talents. There are psychics that can read auras, some work with paranormal books locked with a psi-code, and others work with paranormal crystals and their unique energy. I really liked how the relationship between Sam Coppersmith and Abby Radwell developed. Their relationship seemed natural despite the fact that it developed quickly and there was a psychic link between them. My absolute favorite character was Abby's dog Newton, the condo-sized version of a junkyard dog.When you first start reading Copper Beach it feels like you're in the middle of a series instead of reading the very first book. This does take a little getting used to. Instead of receiving the back history within the first few chapters, you discover it as Abby does. Normally I don't like this but it actually works for this book, adding an extra layer of suspense and mystery. I did have a problem with this book. I could have used a little more dialogue variety when describing the paranormal. Four different characters said basically the same thing. "The old stories say that McClain was really into the woo-woo stuff, you know?" "He thinks it's all woo-woo stuff." "Paranormal, the woo-woo thing, whatever." Many of the books were filled with the usual woo-woo and occult nonsense. I'm not saying it's a huge problem. I just find it hard to believe that four different people with varying backgrounds and education would use the same description. It made the characters a little one-dimensional.

      Though I won this book in the early reviewers and never received it, I felt I should give a review anyway. I am an ardent Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle fan. I have read almost every book written by this author. She is a master at making paranormal romance fun and interesting to read. The characters are fun and interesting to "listen" to. Ms. Krentz always makes the story lines fun and fresh. This new series looks to be another hit for me. I cannot wait for the next installments which I am sure will center around Sam's brother and sister.

      A psychic with a talent for unlocking psychically coded secrets in books, Abby Radwell's built a nice network of relatively safe connections in the rare book world. Unfortunately, her talent and a past with "incidents" has brought her to the attention of a blackmailer. When she approaches Sam Copper to play bodyguard, the plot thickens and sparks fly.The start of another clever, crystal-based series with strong characters, clever dialogue, and great entertainment potential.

      Within the pages of some rare books there is some psionic information hidden, Abby Radwell is an expert at finding this inforamation and she knows who wants to buy it. When an incident at a private library of a collector turns deadly she hires Sam Coppersmith to help keep her alive and find out what's going on. It complicates her life when they fall for each other and find that, in fact, they compliment each other well. It's part of Jayne Ann Krentz's psionic series and in some ways predictable but the books made it special for me. Abby really resonated with me.

      I have only read a couple of paranormal books, and I have to say the plot and charcters in Jayne Ann Krantz's book Copper Beach were quite believable. This was a very enjoyable read with some light suspense mixed in. Abby is a strong female character who struggles with trust issues, who wouldn't with a family that locked her up rather than believe she might be "different". She ends up working with Sam after debilitating a man with her ability. She learns to trust in him, and together they must race to find his families lost lab notebook before it falls into the wrong hands! I would probably read the next book in this series!

      Jayne Ann Krentz begins a new contemporary/paranormal/romantic suspense series with Copper Beach. The main characters are Abby Radwell and Sam Coppersmith. Abby works as a dealer in the rare paranormal book market because she has the unique talent of being able to unlock encrypted books. Unfortunately, her family is far more likely to think that she is crazy than to celebrate her talent. In fact, they sent her to a special boarding school in her youth to "cure" her. She made lifelong friends among the other students with paranormal talents and developed a distance from her family. She also became very self-reliant and confident in her skills. She has also become very reluctant to trust anyone outside of her small circle.When Abby begins to be blackmailed, she is directed to Sam Coppersmith. Sam is the son of the head of Coppersmith Inc which made its fortune in the rare earths business. He also has paranormal skills. He takes one look at Abby and falls in love. Naturally, he is determined to solve her problem and along the way solve his too. His girlfriend was murdered by someone trying to break into his home lab and his family is searching for a lab book that contains experiments on some dangerous crystals the his father and his partners discovered years ago. Sam is a typical Krentz hero. He is attractive, single-minded and very, very competent. He is also dangerous.This story was a fast-paced thriller as Abby and Sam try to track down the person (or people) who want the encrypted lab book and who are willing to kidnap Abby and kill anyone who gets in their way. The dynamics between the two of them as they slowly find their way to romance was very engaging. I loved Abby's reluctance to trust and her constant effort to keep the relationship between them a business one. I also liked Sam's desire to protect Abby and his need to get her to see their relationship the way he sees it.This was an excellent romantic suspense title filled with fascinating characters. I was really fond of Abby's dog - Newton - who was, as Sam says, a condo-sized junkyard dog. I recommend this one to JAK's many fans and for fans who like the paranormal in their romantic suspense.

      Abby deals in rare books with paranormal aspects (*not* occult, she likes to make clear). After she psychically stuns a deranged dealer who broke into the mansion where she was working, she hires Sam Coppersmith to find out who is blackmailing her about the incident. His family, meanwhile, is desperate to find a resurfaced lab notebook dealing with dangerous crystals, before the notebook can fall into the wrong hands.Despite the psychic abilities, this does not seem to be related to Krentz's Arcane Society novels in any way; I kept expecting it to be, which was a slight distraction.

      This book is VERY paranormal. However, it was very good. I enjoyed reading it. I did not feel the connection between Abby & Sam as strongly as I would like but I did like the characters. One area I wish had some more development was Sam's brother & sister. I know this book was about Sam and the siblings will have their own books but I would have liked to see them at least introduced in this book. They were mentioned, but I feel like the technology summit would have been a good place to introduce them. At this point, I am so so as to wether or not I will read the rest of this series when it comes out.

      Copper Beach is the start of a new paranormal suspense series, A Dark Legacy . Abby Radwell is a bookseller working primarily with private collectors. She has the power to take psychic energy from book and use it to disable people but primarily she uses her senses to find “hot books” for her carefully vetted clients. She gets involved in the search for a lab book with tremendous energy potential and needs help with a blackmailer-enter Sam Coppersmith. Sam comes from a family that has a long history of paranormal work and research. Added to his background with an unnamed government agency and he is the perfect man for Abby-personally and professionally. There is a lot of chemistry between the two characters and they get involved with each other and the search for the book right from the beginning. Abby is being pressured to find the book by her family and possibly also from an unknown blackmailer. Sam's father was involved in the beginning of the experiment that created the lab book and Sam knows the consequences should it fall into the wrong hands. Floating around in the background is the mystery of how Sam’s ex-fiancé ended up dead, why Abby’s family needs her to find the lab book, and who the mysterious blackmailer is. The suspense of the story keeps you turning page after to page to see what will happen next. This book is a bit of a departure from her Arcane series but just as enjoyable.

      I loved this book! Copper Beach is very entertaining, action packed, contemporary mystery romance with a paranormal twist. Very fast paced and hard to out down. It reminds me of the Arcane series by Jayne Ann Krentz. The paranormal aspect of this story is like reading a book by Krentz and Jayne Castle, two authors for the price of one. This book is part of the Dark Legacy series. I hope future books are about Sam and Abbys family and friends with focus on their paranormal abilities. Recomended to anyone who wants to be entertained by a book with both action and romance. Worth reading more than once.

      Fast-paced, suspenseful and fairly crackling with energy, this book captivated me the entire time I was reading it, which was barely more than a day. High literature it is not, but it is an excellent example of its intended genre. The paranormal twist (books and rocks that resonate with psychic energy, and the people with the talents to work with them) was well thought out, and interesting. This is not your basic vampires, witches and fairies paranormal, which I found refreshing and a lot more realistic. I've always enjoyed the work of Ms. Krentz, regardless of the pseudonym she is using, and I found no reason not to enjoy her latest offering. I am looking forward to more in the series, and am quite interested to see what sorts of talents Sam's brother and sister have.

      Abby Radwell antiquarian and para psi book finder is in over her head when it becomes obvious that someone wants her to find a certain para coded lab book missing for forty years and they won’t stop at anything to get what they want. Abby also knows what it means to be a loner so when Sam Coppersmith in all his testosterone filled glory comes to the rescue Abby doesn’t know how to handle him or the fever she seems to have when Sam is around.Sam Coppersmith is on the trail of a lab notebook that disappeared forty years ago when the mine his father and partners were working in exploded, it was always assumed that all the notes were lost with the partner who didn’t survive the blast. Now there are sure signs that the notebook is out there and he’s determined to get it to stop it from falling into the wrong hands but he needs help from one very talented psi book de-coder. When they meet there is more heat in the room than he can ever remember feeling and he knows right from the start that she’s going to be trouble and she’s going to be permanent, now he just has to convince her. Together Sam and Abby search for the lost book with murder and mayhem all around them and some unlikely help along the way. Will they survive to see where this attraction leads or will they be psi-murdered like others before them.What I expect from Ms. Krentz is a marvelous contemporary tale with great suspense, hot romance and maybe a touch of woo-woo, what I didn’t expect was for her alter ego Jayne Castle to show up, but that’s exactly what happened when Castle meets Krentz in this one of a kind story. We get the contemporary of Krentz mixed with the over abundance of paranormal we’d expect from Castle only in a contemporary setting instead of sometime in the distant future and on a distant planet. With characters all across the realm from super good to super bad and a little dog to boot instead of a dust bunny. Her hero and heroine are very enigmatic and will pull readers in right from the start with the independence of Abby and the protectiveness of Sam Ms. Krentz as usual puts all the good traits into her special couple but doesn’t stop there as her other characters are all important to the tale. The romance is great and the conclusion is obvious to everyone but Abby right from the start. The love scenes will psi-sizzle right off the page. If you’re looking for something to warm up the coldest days of the year, start with a sure thing because if you’re a fan you’ll know you can’t go wrong with this amazing author in all her incantations, Jayne Ann Krentz, Jayne Castle and Amanda Quick.Need something to get over the after holiday blues, this will start you right up, want the first must read of the new year, it’s between these pages.Thank you Ms. Krentz for another incredible journey through your incredibly imaginative world.

      Jayne Ann Krentz is one of my favorite authors. I think I have every book she's put out. This book is set in today and combines the paranormal with a nice mystery romance. If you like strong characters, mystery and romance you should enjoy the book. Even though it's a Dark Legacy Novel it stands on its own.

      As a huge fan of paranormal romance, I wasn't sure how well rock paranormal was going to go over, but it turned out great. It was a well written book that has enough of a unique twist to keep me hooked. Great Job!

      This was the first time I read a book from Jayne Ann Krentz. In the beginning, I did not like how she jumped around the story. I would start the next paragraph and I felt like I must have skipped a page, but as I continued to read she would set up the next scene rather well. I had to reflect on this read because once I got to chapter five I did not want to put the book down. The author described most all the characters in detail. Sam Coppersmith and Abby Radwell have an interesting relationship. Copper Beach is a great read and I definitely recommend it. The book is not just about Psi-energy, alchemy and Para-rocks or crystals, but also about love (some sex scenes), family issues, blackmail, and murder. I cannot wait to read the next series of Dark Legacy.

      This is the first Jayne Ann Krentz book I have read in a while (her last series just ended up falling flat for me.) But I have to say, this is the first book of her new series and I'm hooked! It was a very light/quick read and entertaining. It is a paranormal romance. Abby is the key to unlock a very dangerous book that many bad people are after. Sam is the only one she can trust. They race to find the book first all the while dodging "bullets" so to speak. Would definitely read the next book in the series and recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal romances.

      Another great book by Jayne Anne Krentz.I love her characters and para-psi powers and this book was another great example. I can't wait to read the next two. I felt this plot moved at a great pace and still invalid a lot of elements. I love when a book makes you feel like you are there.

      This is the first Jayne Ann Krentz book I have read and I have to say I enjoyed it very much! It was a very easy read,entertaining and also a quick read. I liked the paranormal aspect of this book; it was different from what I normally read. I really enjoyed the humor that was shared between Sam and Abby at different times and of course the romance! I cannot wait until the next one comes out from the Dark Legacy series!!! I will also be looking for more Jayne Ann Krentz (Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle) books to read.
