About this audiobook

When foreign exchange student Olivia Grant is stabbed to death at a party, the accusations fly through Port Gamble faster than Twitter trending. Fingers point at party host Brianna, who found the body, and her dim-witted boyfriend, Drew. But there had also been a monster blowout between Olivia and her roommate earlier that night. Someone certainly had an ax to grind. Was it:

JEALOUSY? RAGE? BETRAYAL OF THE ULTIMATE KIND?

Twins Hayley and Taylor Ryan set out upon a twisted path to find out exactly what happened - only to discover a tangled web of shocking secrets about all of them.

Inspired by the Amanda Knox case, Betrayal is the gritty second volume in the bone-chilling Empty Coffin series that takes you to the edge -
and pushes you right over.

Betrayal by Gregg OlsenEmpty Coffin series #23.5 starsFrom The Book:foreign exchange student Olivia Grant is stabbed to death after a party and the prime suspect is her best friend. But is everything as it seems? As twins Hayley and Taylor Ryan get pulled into aftermath of the crime, they realize nothing is what it seems. Could it be betrayal of the ultimate kind? Betrayal features real-life crime-solving techniques, heart-stopping suspense, plenty of red herrings and hard-hitting ethical questions. As the crime unravels, so does the twins' past, as they must face off against a family member who may unexpectedly have carried out the worst betrayal of all.My Thoughts: This series by Gregg Olsen is very much directed to a young audience, unlike all other true crime books he's written. The adult audience will more than likely find that these were mostly mindless, but extremely fun reading. I really enjoyed this one. Olsen stays true to his genre of crime stories but does a a really good job of adapting it for a younger audience. If you want a quick, easy read this series is excellent.

Imagine, just imagine that you and your husband who have not been blessed with children, are best friends with your husband's childhood friend, wife and 2 young girls. You meet a couple of times a year and the girls spend all of their school breaks and vacations with 'Auntie and Uncle' and the four of you love your time together. Then imagine that the unspeakable happens and one of the daughters accuses your husband of touching her inappropriately. The confusion, heartbreak, and legality of the issue are almost more than one can bear. And then imagining it getting even worse. Your innocent husband is found guilty and sent to prison for twenty years. Imagine how you would react. What would you do? Can you think of anything to set things right and get your life back? That is what Kate, the main character of this book attempts to do.I recommend this book for an appropriate day when perhaps it is raining and you are in the doldrums and simply need an interesting but non-challenging book to read. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

The twins are back and this time not only are they solving another murder, but discovering a possible betrayal that hits a little too close to home. This action packed series always keeps you on your toes! The sequel is full of surprises and will keep you guessing right up to the last page. There are plenty of new mysteries and a few old ones that are being brought up in this book. I couldn’t put it down. It is fast paced, full of intrigue, suspense, and will leave you wanting more! I love the relationship between Hayley and Taylor and how they get along so well. They are a great duo and hilarious whenever they are together. They do fight like sibling do sometimes, but over all they are loving sisters who stick together through thick and thin. As sisters they do have their secrets and it is their most dangerous secret that bands them together more than any other. There are a lot of secrets being uncovered in this book and I was anxiously turning each page to find out what happened next. I can’t wait for another story with the twins and seeing what they may uncover next. Check out Betrayal by Gregg Olsen for another look at the crime solving duo everyone loves!

This book, the second in a series by this author, is loosely based on a real murder, the one involving Amanda Knox. Hayley and Taylor Ryan, with their psychic abilities are at it again, trying to solve the murder of Olivia grant, a foreign exchange student, at a Halloween party. This story again involves real-time crime solving techniques and suspense as the twins delve into the murder and who committed it. The story moves along rather quickly, from the party murder to the twins’ own history to the finale, all the while taking the reader for a wild ride filled with a myriad of twists and turns. The setting for the story is again Port Gamble, Washington as in the first in the series. The author combines the small Northwest town appeal with the larger cultural appeal of a foreigner visiting bringing her own take on things with her. I found myself eagerly reading this tale from the outset. The author definitely knows suspense and how to captivate the reader. I received this book from goodreads to read and review.

This was my first Fern Michaels book but it definitely will not be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this one as I devoured it in one day. I thought it was well written and I could identify with the characters. I would recommend this one to friends as an enjoyable easy read.

This book was just ok for me. It was the story of a perfect marriage between Kate and Alex. Although they do not have children of their own, they love the visits of Sara and Emily. The two girls are the daughters of Alex's best friend, Don and his wife Debbie. However, Sara suddenly exhibits troubling behavior on her last visit. Weeks later, Alex gets a phone call from Don saying that Sara has accused him of molesting her for years. Kate, always believing Alex's innocence, is helpless as her husband goes to trial, is convicted and sent to prison. When even more tragedy occurs, Kate's grief turns to anger and eventually revenge. She embarks on a quest to ruin those involved and clear her husband's name.I thought this story was a bit "over the top." Debbie walks around calling her daughters tramps, Sara is having one temper tantrum after another and Don, just ignores it all...It did not make sense to me that Emily and Sara were such beloved guests for Alex and Kate and then on the last visit, Sara is just plain evil and no one says anything to her parents? Why would Kate put up with Debbie's constant rude remarks and foul treatment of them? Does not make sense that she would take their children in on visits when the mom is so vulgar to Kate....oh well, it was fun to read. The characters were nasty, bent on revenge and it was certainly easy to hate Sara and Debbie.

When I think of perfect summer reads--you know, the ones you stay up late reading while you're on vacation--Fern Michaels' Betrayal comes to mind. I couldn't put it down.It wasn't that it was a seminal literary work; indeed, the characters are not immensely complex. Michaels conveys exactly which characters you're supposed to  root for (Kate Rocket, seemingly perfect in every way, Emily Winter, whose only flaw is having been part of the Winter family) and the ones you're supposed to despise (Debbie and Sara Winter, a mother-daughter team who are hosts to a plethora of dysfunctions). Betrayal starts out by dancing around the label of a suspense book, but it's more of a drama between families with a little romance thrown in for good measure. As a criminal defense attorney, I found many of the legal proceedings to be straining in their credulity, but I can't help but enjoy a book where the courtroom drama ends in favor of the underdog. Also, the Roy Black namedrop was a welcome touch. Not the most gripping or powerful book, but a solid, enjoyable, page-turner from a legendary creator of many a page-turner. Many thanks to Kensington Books for providing me with this copy for review.

I keep listening to Lescroart, trying to find another book in the series as good as The Motive. The back story for the book was just so-so, but I liked the Glitsky/Hardy part. There was too much of the back story and not enough of the odd duo. Took me a few tries to get into it.

I received this book through the Library Thing Member Giveaway program. The book was given to me by Kensington Books. I found the story interesting but predictable. The villains were easy to hate, but I really didn't connect with any of the characters. I found myself skimming to get through the book. Not my favorite, but I do have a few friends who would enjoy this kind of story so I will recommend it to them.

Regular fans of Fern Michaels will not be disappointed here. Her plot-driven writing is in full force - I read this entire novel in one day, trying to find out if my predictions about what would happen next would come true. The unfortunate part is that, due to the rather low quality of the writing, my predictions usually did come true - this is what happens when you have a book filled with one-dimensional characters and absurd storylines and ridiculous plot twists that could have come from any daytime soap opera. However, this is what Fern Michaels does best. If you're looking for art or high literature, don't come here. But if you're looking for a remarkable beach read, something you don't have to think about but might want to discuss with your husband later, then this is the book for you.

Kate and Alex have the perfect marriage with one exception, they are not able to have children. As a result they treat Alex's best friend's girls as their daughters. After a 2 week visit with Kate and Alex, the youngest girl Sara accuses Alex of molesting her. Alex and Kate must go through the awful ordeal of a trial and all that goes with. A great story that I was not able to put down. I would highly recommend this book.

A must read if you are a Fern Michaels fan. So refreshing to have her put out a book that is not the Sisterhood series or the Godmother series.

A new approach to the Dismas Hardy - Abe Glitzky series, more than one half of the book does not involve the two characters but instead establishes the story of a soldier in Iraq and back in the Bay area.As with all of Lescroart's books, this proved a fast and entertaining read.
