Reviews for The Warlock

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/52.5 OK for listening to while running errands, but the author is really dragging the series out w each succeeding book holding my interest less. Wrap it up already!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Great twist at the very end. I can't wait to see how that fits in with everything we've been told so far, without creating a plot hole. Speaking of which, in the first (second?) book, Scathach tells someone that she'd been told she would die in a desert - which is why she always lives on the coast. Every other book after that, she claims she was told she'd die in an "exotic location." Kinda annoying how they re-wrote history without going back and fixing it. The twist with Aunt Agnes was predictable and Josh is SUCH a cliche it's not even funny. Really glad I'm coming to the end of this series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book had a slow start, but everything came together for a slam bang finish. Can't wait to read the Enchantress!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This series is pretty good. Still loving the mix of geography, history and mythology. Looking forward to seeing how it ends!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Slower than the others in the series, but still brilliant. I can't wait for the last one!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Third in the series. The elders, the immortal humani and the ancient gods from all nations are all plotting with and against each other and for and against the rebirth of their ancient birthplace. Part of their plan is the destruction of San Francisco. The gold and silver twins of prophecy, Josh and Sarah Newman, are affiliated with different power groups.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Dit boek was okay, denk ik.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5love it! just wish they had the prophesy in each book
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Third in the series. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another exciting chapter on the journey of the "wonder twins" to either save the earth or destroy it. I am not sure how I'll feel about this series until it's over. My daughter really enjoys it, which is a huge factor in how I decide whether a series is a hit or not, but I am wondering if the pay out is going to be worth the huge build up the books have had. One more book and I suppose I'll know.
This was a good book. Entertaining and full of adventure. I guess what's bugging me is the fact that the brother and sister have been separated and one is supposedly fated to be a dark force in the fate of the world--even though both kids are normally good kids. I won't be sure how I feel about that story line until I see how it resolves. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5as always great ending pieces coming together. would not have guessed.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Some revelations were telegraphed and others took me by surprise. Poor Josh is being manipulated and hasn't a clue. I liked Billy the Kid and Machiavelli's big decision much more than most of those of Virginia Dare -- and none of John Dee's, of course.Hope the last book isn't a letdown.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wtffff... See if I only had these kinds of books all the time, I will never need the internet. Never, ever. The most entertained I've ever been on a plane ride.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excellent book based on different mythological and historical figures. I really enjoy the series. Each book leaves the reader wanting more. Teachers can incorporate a research project based on story characters.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The fight scenes in Danu Talis felt extremely drawn out. I loved Billy the Kid in this though.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Warlock was a biblical marvel. The way that Michael Scott had separated the twins and then started to split the entire book into different points of view for each person was intriguing. In this amazing fantasy adventure, two twins whom are told they are prophesied to either save or end the world.Josh, the boy twin, is convinced that the protectors of the Codex, a magic book written by Abraham the Mage, are more evil than they are being told. So, he joins forces with their mortal enemy, Dr. John Dee, to (in his mind ) save the world.Sophie, the girl twin, thinks that Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel, the before mentioned protectors of the Codex, are the good guys in this struggle. But she still loves her brother Josh very much, so is constantly trying to “save” him from John Dee’s (in her eye) evil ways. Eventually they are both in their home city of San Francisco: Josh is on Alcatraz, and Sophie is at the twins old home with the Flamels dying of age. Sophie is taught the last of the 4 elemental magics, Earth magic, while Josh is being taught the magic of Air, his third elemental magic. The author of this novel used impeccable vocabulary to emphasize the plot points throughout the story. All in all, The Warlock was an outstanding book, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is the fifth book in a series about the adventures of Nicholas Flamel and others in his world. The characters in this book either want to save the ancient city of Danu Talis, which would mean the destruction of what is the current world, while others want the city to fall as it did in the past in order to save the present world. The Warlock begins, where the 4th book ended, Josh (the gold twin), John Dee, and Virginia Dare are fleeing from Dee's burning office. Josh feels Sophie has betrayed him. in his eyes, by whipping a creature he had just brought into the world. Sophie thinks Josh has been corrupted by Dee and Josh feels Sophie has been deceived by the Flamels. The majority of our heroes are in Danu Talis, trying to ensure that it falls as it is meant to. This second to the last book in the series moves along quickly, with a lot of action, history, mythology and tension. The only disappointment is that the Twins are separated and this changes the tone of the books considerably. I can’t wait to get to the 6th and last book the Enchantress. 4 out of 5 stars.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I went through most of the book thinking this was the last in the series, with the pace quickening and things looking like they were getting to a big final battle... but it was not, and there was a satisfyingly great cliffhanger ending. Looking forward to the next book - I really enjoy the way the author puts together so many different myths from other cultures and regions.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The 5th book of the Flamel series shows the true danger that threatens Josh and Sophie as well as the humani world. All the mythological creatures of yesteryear have been imprisoned on the Island of Alcatraz and Dr Dee with Virginia Dare are gaining help from to loose them on the city. When it is revealed the reason why Josh is acting the way he is, the immortals are drawn to trying to warn him but are unsuccessful, they must defend the city and the humani instead. As Nicholas and Perenel's auras start to die as they age, the reader wonders if they will survive long enough to complete their destinies and help the twins to save the world? Many twists and turns await the reader as the characters themselves change and evolve.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Scott returns again to pull us inot his vision of this world, and countless others in The Warlock, the 5th in the Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel series. Josh and Sophie are still seperated, but old enimies form new allianes, and many answers are revealed as Eldres, the New Generation, First People, humani, and fantastic monsters for new alliances, with which the world will survive or perish on. Dozens of twists and surprises await fans of this series, and a corkscrew twist at the end that will leave everyone's heads spinning as the learn more of the truth of worlds and lives across time.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Like the series but this one was not as riviting for me.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My Summary: In a prophecy written thousands of years before their birth, it was foretold that two children - twins - would be born that would have the power to save the world ... or destroy it. Sophie and Josh Newman are those twins, and together they've traveled with the Flamels around the world, awakening their powers and trying to foil Dr. John Dee's plans to bring about the end of the world. For a while, they were succeeding - that is, until Dee convinced Josh that the Flamels were lying and recruited him. Now Sophie is alone with the Flamels, who are hours away from death and too weak to protect her. With only a few days left, Sophie knows the fate of the world is in her and Josh's hands.... The prophecy says one twin will save the world and the other will destroy it, and even though Josh's crossed over to what Sophie knows is the 'Dark Side', she's still unsure about which one she is.My Thoughts: I've never read anything like Michael Scott's series - the mixture of mythology and fantasy is flawless, and his writing is practically magical. Seriously. I bought the first book in this series on a whim (this is the fifth book), and I've been hooked ever since then.I really enjoyed the twists in this book, along with the addition of some new characters; although Josh's behaviour was a little irritating. I wanted to reach into the book and slap him or something (which is, as you know, physically impossible, but you know what I mean...). At one point it was like he was blind to what was going on, following John Dee and Virginia Dare like a lost puppy. And the ending was amazing! I'm still trying to wrap my head around it (in a good way) - it's going to be a difficult few months waiting for the last book!Final Thoughts: I definitely recommend the series to anyone who's a fan of mythology and fantasy; I especially recommend it to parents who are looking for a good series that they and their children will both enjoy. It's safe for kids 12 and up (there's no swearing, no violence, and no sexual stuff, so fear not!) and the writing is very intelligent, so adults won't feel out of place reading it. Do yourself a favour and check out the series :D
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another great addition to the series. In this episode, the battle lines are more clearly drawn, as all the players take their sides for the next and final installment. I think this is another great book in a great series. It definately requires familiarity with the previous books, but is an excellent continuation,.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The newest in the series is good, I'm having trouble with how the author makes EVERYONE seem so fantastic. Each character is more powerful than the one before them and it takes away from the strengths of many of the truly awesome characters. I love how it combines myth, magic, and modern life. The idea of historical characters becoming immortal is cool and I will definitely read the entire series. Not crazy about the writing style, but the concept and plot make up for it.
