About this audiobook
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Elizabeth and Jackson Shore married young, raised two daughters, and weathered the storms of youth as they built a family. From a distance, their lives look picture perfect. But after the girls leave home, Jack and Elizabeth quietly drift apart. When Jack accepts a wonderful new job, Elizabeth puts her own needs aside to follow him across the country. Then tragedy turns Elizabeth’s world upside down. In the aftermath, she questions everything about her life—her choices, her marriage, even her long-forgotten dreams. In a daring move that shocks her husband, friends, and daughters, she lets go of the woman she has become—and reaches out for the woman she wants to be.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Book was ok... but Scrib’s audiobook of it had many places where it skipped ahead so you missed parts. :(

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I think the narrator is really a computerized voice. I have never heard a native English speaker read or speak with the peculiar inflection and emphases within common phrasing. The cadences are simply weird. Couldn’t finish book (story was meh through beginning) because the narration was frankly unpleasant.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I love Kristin Hannah. But the narrator was annoying. She read with a constant melodic rhythm of an amateur. She gave importance to nonsensical parts of the story. I could only last a couple of chapters before I had to quit. Horrible. Too bad because I would have loved to hear the story.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Audio version: I would have loved to hear the story but the narration was so bad I only made it 20% of the way through. Every sentence is read as if it were the climactic scene of a thriller, which is completely inappropriate for this kind of book. It could be a parody.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Interesting story of a long marriage and its pitfalls. Realistic view of two people working to realize what they have lost and also what they have gained.
Love and its complex nature is beautifully expressed throughout this book - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a great storyline of love getting lost in a long term relationship and finding the energy new love once brought snd rekindling it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A beautiful story of love and self-discovery. I truly enjoyed the journey. For me, it was motivational and inspirational.
I've never read Kristin Hannah before. She's been added to my must-read list now. - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Loved all Kristin’s books so far but couldn’t get into this one. I’m 10 minutes in and can’t deal with the narration. Narrator sounds like she needs a drink of water (sticky mouth) and voices are annoying.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story with a lot of truth entwined. Realistic view of the ups and downs of marriage and families. Hope and dreams prevail.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This story was such a cliché. Boring and unoriginal. And the reader read it with way too much drama. I’ve read several of Kristin Hannah’s books and was very disappointed by this one.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Eventually she had to write a book I didn’t absolutely love and this was it. Sooo boring…I just kept waiting for the story to go somewhere and I didn’t feel like it ever did.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book! I really did like it! Only thing was waiting for the jock husband to grow up!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good story line, didn't fall in love with the way it was narrated. Seemed a little forced. I wish the author would have let the readers know if Jack ended up being completely honest with Elizabeth.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A lovely story about a woman who starts over, a reminder that it’s never too late to do so. However, there was too much unnecessary details in the script and it was very predictable. The story could’ve been told in half the time. A bit of a fairy tale, with its lack of financial struggles for any of the characters.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not my favorite from Kristen. It was long and got mundane at times.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this story as it resonated with me, a woman in mid-50s. It explores how love and time, the routine of family life and prioritising the needs of your loved ones can push you into the background until you feel devoid of passion. No earth shattering reveals here but a gentle and realistic story of finding self, vitality and love again.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well, to me this has been an average story weaving with averagely moulded characters, but exactly because of this reached down to my heart. The ending, though, had the flavour of a fairy tale, nothing close to reality.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved it. Would have given 4.5 stars. I save 5 star ratings to the best of the best like The Nightingale but I still read this fast and was able to get into the book right away. I love books about relationships of people in their 40s.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked the book although there was some bills in the recording
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing life story. Recomend for every married couple. I loved it.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Annoying characters that were not relatable. Irritating voices. Thank you
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a well written book. I loved it from beginning to the end.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was such a sad story. My heart goes out to the Shores family. I really didnt like how the story ended, though. It wasnt abrupt but it left a bit unanswered.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another heartwarming real life story about real life relationships and families.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The reader was excellent. But this was like a Lifetime movie, predictable, moderately sympathetic characters and a syrupy ending.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Once again Hannah delivers a very woman empowering novel. Elizabeth "Birdie" Shore has lost herself while being a great wife & mother. Birdie follows her famous, then not so famous husband around the country while he follow his dreams and she supports him. Birdie realizes that now her children are raised and her husband has once again become famous her own passion for life is missing. So she decides to do something about it. Hannah captures her characters so well it is like reading about your own life.
