New York Times Bestselling Series

“Terrifically entertaining. Fans of the first book will be delighted with this sequel to Septimus’s story.” —VOYA (starred review)

“Readers will find themselves quickly immersed in this imaginative world, moving from one well-crafted adventure to another at a suspenseful pace.” —School Library Journal

It's been a year since Septimus Heap discovered his real family and true calling to be a wizard. As Apprentice to ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, he is learning the fine arts of Conjurations, Charms, and other Magyk, while Jenna is adapting to life as the Princess and enjoying the freedom of the Castle.

But there is something sinister at work. Marcia is constantly trailed by a menacing Darke Shadow, and Septimus's brother Simon seems bent on a revenge no one understands. Why is the Darke Magyk still lingering?

Bringing fantasy to new heights, Angie Sage continues the journey of Septimus Heap with her trademark humor and all of the clever details readers have come to love.

I'm really enjoyed this book series now. I'm on to the third one.
Hopefully, that book will be as enjoyable as the last two books.

Highly entertaining. Not too scary for the 8 and above.

Ahh, Septimus. If only the adults were as smart as you. Man, the adults were all hit with the stupid, can't-see-the-forest-for-the-trees stick. Extremely frustrating. The book itself, while still good, does suffer slightly from middle-book-itis. It's probably a good idea to go back and read one and two together.

Fun children's fantasy series. Jenna is kidnapped by Simon. Septimus must rescue her. They face dangers, reunited with people, the dragon boat and Septimus acquires a dragon.

Septimus is coming into his own as an apprentice, but relations in the Heap family are not so stable. Simon (the oldest) is convinced Septimus has usurped his place in the world of Magyk and causes all sorts of trouble with Septimus and Jenna. Fortunately loyalty and courage save the day.

As the second book of the series it seems like it is a much easier read than the first. I enjoyed the fact that though she is the princess Jenna is not placed into the stereotypical role of princess that you see in many stories. I also enjoy how the characters are slowly being built up and growing through the book.

I like this series, I really do!

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Septimus Heap, is back with his family and now the Apprentice to Extra Ordinary Wizard Marsha (who is being "shadowed"). Queenling Jenna is being pursued by Simon, Septimus's older brother (turned bad from jealousy) who has the gift of Flyte, the Dragon Boat awakens and moves into the Castle, Septimus's green rock turned out to be a Dragon egg and has hatched....

A well written, attention holding, wonderful fantastical adventure!

Flyte is second in the Septimus Heap series, and possibly better than the first. I enjoyed seeing Septimus gain confidence in his role as Apprentice and Jenna in her role as Queen-to-be. Some new villains are introduced and add a little spice to the story. A fun series so far.

I enjoyed this much more than the first one, but for its size the book lacks depth hence only 3 stars. Yet again I would recommend this for 10 year old child's bedtime story, plenty of things for a young imagination to play with.

Flyte, the 2nd book in the Septimus Heap series, started a bit slow for me, but once you feel your heart pounding in your chest whilst racing a horse or flying a dragon, you know Angie Sage has done it again! And this is only the beginning! Another exciting escapade with the Heaps! …But don’t go to the circus! ;)

Flyte is a huge improvement from the first book. The book still contains the same awesome magical world and characters. This time around, however, the story has improved and will leave the reader interested in it the whole time. The story flows smoothly and this simple feature makes it a huge improvement over its prequel, Magyk, which suffered from a slow start. Unfortunately, Flyte's story is still too predictable, which makes me wonder if Angie Sage even tries to make "twist and turns" in her story.

This is Book Two in the Septimus Heap series and continues the story seamlessly. Commendably, each book can be read and enjoyed on its own. Both books are pretty derivative and you'll recognize a lot of parallels to the Harry Potter books. However, they are different enough to be thoroughly enjoyable for the young reader.. The characters are engaging and easy for a youngster to identify with, the situations pile fantasy upon fantasy in a combination of adventure and pure fun that make it a very worthwhile read. Recommended.

Clever and amusing, but my least favorite of the series. Spit Fyre may be my least favorite fictional dragon, alas, and the Heap family gets less and less endearing, except for Jenna and Septimus himself.

Tons of of fantastical and adventuresome fun! If anyone ever asked for a good fantasy adventure of magic, I'd probably recommend Septimus Heap, no matter the age of the person asking. I love the world and the characters and the way the smallest things are incorporated without making it seem like it's full of useless information.Really, the ONLY thing in the entire book that bothers me is that Septimus is afraid of heights, and yet... he loves flying?

This book is a good sequel to Magyk and I can't wait to start on the next book in the series. It picks up a year after the first one left off adding a few new characters. The whole story of Flyte revolves around DomDaniel trying to come back to the Wizard Tower yet again, you just don't know how he's going to try to accomplish it. You learn even more of the history and world of The Castle and yet are still left with only tantalizing hints of more to come.

The second book of the Septimus Heap series. Septimus is now an apprentice of the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, Marcia Overstrand. Simon Heap, now a Darke Wizard, kidnaps Jenna. When Septimus rescues Jenna, Simon uses the incomplete Flyte charm to chase after Jenna and Septimus. With the charm and Jenna, Septimus retreats to Aunt Zelda's. There, Septimus completes the Flyte charm, and gets his own dragon.

This is the second book in the six book series. Septimus Heap continues his wizard training. All is good in the kingdom until a mysterius stranger wearing all black comes. Even the horse is black. The mysterious stranger is actually Septimus's brother Simon. Simon kidnapps his sister who is about to become the queen. Now Septemus must team up with his other 5 brothers to save his sister. I recomend this book for wizard lovers. This book was much better than the fisrt book. Although it is better than the first book, it kinda stinks. The whole series stinks in my opinion. The only part I thought was cool was the magic. All of the spells are spelled wrong on purpose. For example: magic is magyc, and dark is darke. It gets confusing. There is not enough action. To much dialog and not interesting.

A fun and engaging sequel to Magyk, Flyte follows the adventures of Septimus Heap, Jenna, and their friends and enemies a year after Magyk let off. Angie Sage has created a rich and magical world with a touch of humor for her characters to inhabit. With quirky characters and a fantastical world to explore, I look forward to reading more in this series. I would highly recommend this book to those who enjoy children's and young adult fantasy.

Things seemed to be going pretty good for Septimus Heap. He saved the world from DonDaniel, reunited with his family for the most part, and is now the Apprentice to Marcia, the ExtraOrdinary Wizard. Not bad for someone who previously had no idenity.Unfortunately, this good feeling did not last long. Septimus's older brother Simon has turned Darke and kidnapped Jenna. And surprisingly, Simon has re-discovered the lost art of Flyte, which is truely flying and just hovering in mid-air.Now with Nicko, his first friend Boy 409 now known as Wolf Boy, and he newly imprinted dragon, Septimus will do all that he can to stop Simon before he gets too far.

Although I find these books by Angie Sage to not be as fluid and amazing in sentence structure as the Harry Potter books, I'm totally captured by the plot. After racing through Magyk and Flyte in my quest to find good fantasy series for my 5th grade class, I can't wait to run down to the library during recess and pick up the third book in the series.

Septimus Heap has been restored to his family and become the apprentice to the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, Marcia Overstrand. His parents, Silas and Sarah, have moved into the castle with their foster daughter, Princess Jenna. When Simon, Septimus' oldest brother, arrives on a Darke horse and carries Jenna off, no one seems to take this as seriously as Septimus does. He is determined to save his sister whether he has help or no.It's hard for me to sum up my reactions to rereads. I have both current and past ideas of the story so wrapped up together that it's hard to make head or tails of it. For example, when I first listened the story, I remember being really taken aback by the change in narrator, and the resulting change in every character's voice. Expecting that this time, and remembering odd bits of the plot, I was not as enamored of the story as before. I still like the characters, but I find myself getting more annoyed with the narration, which tends to add tangents and unnecessary background to the story such as how Nicko learned to swim in a passage discussing his work at the boathouse. While I still think it's necessary for me to reread the books in order to remember what's going on when I finally read Syren for the first time, I often remember plot points just before the story reveals them, which takes the edge off any tension. Still, a series I would recommend.

Not as 'magykal' as the first book, but still a fun listen. I was hugely disappointed that they changed the narrator though.

A wonderful book, carries on nicely from Magyk, the first book in the series. I like it because Simon is Septimus' brother but he attacks him, I also like it because of the end where it explains what happened before.

This is the second book in the Septimus Heap series. In this book, Jenna is kidnapped by her older brother, Simon. Septimus is worried because Jenna is princess and Simon is not the person he used to be. Septimus sets off to find her and asks for help, but nobody believes him. The only person brave enough to go with him is his other older brother, Nicko. Nicko tries to take Septimus to go meet their other brothers, but Nicko gets them lost. Nicko and Septimus find their lost grandfather who became a tree because he is a shape-shifter. Nicko and Septimus travel to the Port and there they find Jenna. They go to their aunt's house and there Septimus gets a dragon. When Jenna, Nicko and Septimus go back to the castle, they find out that Simon has been trying to get rid of them forever. But Simon's plans went wrong and he left to go back to the Badlands.I didn't like this book as much as the first book. I thought that this book was almost the same as the first book. I wasn't very interested in this book. The characters didn't do a lot of things in this book like they did the first book. I hope that the third book is a lot better than the second.

I read this book at the recommendation of one of my students, and I found it an entertaining story. The characters were a bit flat, and there were some events (like the utter cluelessness of everyone other than Septimus) that made me raise an eyebrow, but I can see how this would be a world that middle grade readers would want to sink into and live out the adventures of the hero.
