- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Once the action got going it didn't stop.I lost count of how many times Sam faced "certain death". Over and over he is in a situation where it looks like he had no escape. It got a bit ridiculous, I just thought he won't die - this is the 1st book in the Sam Capra series and he is Sam Carpa. When we finally get to the end and secrets are revealed I just thought of course, that figures.I understood the significance of the pictures of the children well before Sam did.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When his pregnant wife is kidnapped and he discovers that he has been set up as a traitor, brilliant CIA agent Sam Capra begins a desperate hunt for the unknown enemy who he believes has targeted the wrong man. Summary HPLPolitical thriller with high stakes (nuclear weapons, human trafficking, global smuggling networks), trendy European locales (London, Amsterdam), Mission Impossible-worthy chase scenes and an intriguing cast of characters. First in a series, Adrenaline mixes up the puzzle pieces: Agent Sam Capra is happily married, practices parkour and would prefer not to kill people; the powerful secret agent with global yet dubious allies is a woman named Mila; and most surprising of all, Sam and Mila are not romantically involved! Lots of action and suspense but rooted in a complex, moral context that kept me interested right up to the end. Of particular note is the way the author avoided female stereotypes. Sam's wife, Lucy, Mila and the kidnapped daughter of a billionaire (can't remember her name and I don't have the book to look it up) are not mere props on a male-dominated stage but people who contribute key elements to the plot. 8 out of 10 Recommended to readers of the thriller genre and to those who enjoy a riveting narrative.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good....but exhausting! I listened to the audio version. I was worn out with all of the escapades of Sam, a sort of super human dynamo all rolled into one somewhat ridiculously never truly exhausted being! He was able to carry out truly imaginative events, a James Bond look alike. I'll admit that I was surprised at the end but it took an awfully long time to get there---is there such a thing as just way too many adventures? What will Sam be doing next?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic book. Non stop action. Sam Capra is my new favorite action hero!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Entertaining fast-paced thriller. Complicated plot with lots of twists and turns. Good guy goes rogue when his family is in danger.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Outstanding mystery, hope there are many more to come. 5 plus
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The writing was trite, over wrought and juvenile. It was like reading a very long Marvel action hero comic book, but without the pictures. Sorry I wasted my time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5very fast paced alittle drawn out but still,,,, it will keep you wanting to listen to the next book
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book! Excitement and intrigue galore! Looking forward to the next one!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A good story, but way too long and dragged out for me!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Packed with adventure and twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end! Narrator was fantastic!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Writing was good, decent story but there was little character development except for the main one and even then, he felt a little flat but I think that is common with first person POVs who spend a lot of time contemplating or telling us how they feel rather than just showing us through action. And being primarily first person with occasional third person POVs was a little jarring at times. Still, I’ll probably start the next in the series to see if some of that gets changed up as the writing flows well enough.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5engaging fast pace story that wont let your attention waver.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Surprising twists and non stop action. I couldn’t put the book down.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Mediocre book with too many 'been there / done that' scenes. If first time probably would have been high on my list. Oh well, hope to find something original.449 members; 3.75 average rating; 5/29/2022

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5i really liked this book. i liked it enough i want the second one to fishish the story line. however i do get the impression it will never end. it's about a man whose goverment building blows up and he's accused of treason. he breaks to find his wife who he saw kidnapped the day his buliding was blown up. she was pregnant and he needs to find her and his baby. he teams up with a very cool character named mila which i liked quite a bit. it moves and rolls and i had a hunch who the buyer was in the story before it ever got there but it was still a good read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sam Capra is off to work. Things are going well. His wife, Lucy, is 8 months pregnant and he loves his job as part of a special team that tracks down bad guys through their networks. He is just about to make an important report when Lucy calls telling him to meet her downstairs and then when he gets there, to run. He spots her in a car across the street and runs toward the car just as the top floor of the building, where his offices are located, blows up. Soon, the next thing he knows is being locked in a dungeon, where he and Lucy are accused of being traitors. After being held several months being tortured, all the while maintaining his innocence, he escapes and flees to Rotterdam with the assistance of a shadowy group which he doesn’t understand, but whose help certainly willing to accept. Weird weapons, groups within groups, psychotic killers, Patty Hearst parallels, and parkour (I had never heard of this, slug that I am.) Not to mention Roger Cadet. A bit too James Bond at times, nevertheless a fun time-waster. This book delivers what the title suggests; it's a frenetic rush. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 since I happen to be in a good mood this morning.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this audiobook for review from Hachette Audio. I did not receive any compensation for my review, and the views expressed herein are my own.Adrenaline is a fast-paced thriller that will leave you wanting more!Sam Capra is a CIA agent whose pregnant wife, Lucy (also a CIA agent), has been kidnapped after a bombing of the CIA offices. A phone call Lucy makes to Sam telling him to leave the building moments before the bomb goes off leads the CIA to believe that Lucy double-crossed the CIA and planted the bomb and that Sam was involved in the duplicitous scheme as well. Sam’s mission is to find his wife and clear her name, as well as his own.Sam is a bit of a smart-ass, and I love that about him! He is extremely sharp, and his loyalty to his wife is unerring. I love the character of Mila as well, the Russian woman who recruits Sam to help her find the daughter of a very rich businessman/scientist.The pace of book is fast and enjoyable. I did successfully deduce the identity of the mastermind behind the operation, but that did not interfere with my enjoyment of the book. Abbott has created a very interesting cast of characters (which I think would translate very well to the big screen, by the way!), and I think this book is a fantastic start to a new series! The end of the book sets up the next one in the series beautifully, and I cannot wait to see what is next in store for Capra! I hope that we will learn more about mysterious Mila and that she will stick around for a long time!Abbott is a new-to-me author, and I am definitely planning to check out his previous novels while I anxiously await the next Capra novel! This is my first audiobook narrated by Kevin T. Collins, and he had me totally captivated. Not only did he create unique voices for each of the characters, but his narration had varied levels of intensity that dripped with emotion. I thought Collins did a superb job!MY RATING: 5 stars!! I loved it, and I wait with anticipation for the next in the series! Thank you, Hachette Audio!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sam Capra and his wife, Lucy, both work for the CIA. During a meeting Sam receives a call from his pregnant wife warning him to get out of the building. The panic in her voice propels Sam out of the building, cell phone still at his ear, as he yells for her to tell him where she is. He spots her in a car racing away from the building. He tries to chase on foot when the building he was in blows up. Now the race is on as the CIA chief believes either Sam, Lucy, or both are traitors. Sam is captured and imprisoned for months while grilled for information. He is released but is constantly watched. His goal is to pick up the trail of the man with the scar who kidnapped his wife. The CIA tries to convince him that if he isn’t the traitor then Lucy is but he refuses to believe it. He finally finds a way to escape in cargo on a ship headed to Rotterdam but when a helicopter lands on the ship it isn’t the CIA trailing him, now it’s a Russian woman named Mila. She wants to hire him to find the daughter of Bahjat Zaid who has been kidnapped. She has the money and connections to protect him from the CIA and possibly help him find Lucy and his baby. He takes the job but Lucy is his number one priority. This book is complete with shadow organizations, traitors, smuggling, and high tech goodies reminiscent of a Bourne Identity film. The enemies are cruel and easy to despise. Sam has a way of getting himself out of situations in a super-human way. The TV show Burn Notice kept running through my head especially with the open-ended conclusion that spells sequel. Excellent “adrenaline”-filled plot.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This new thriller has come up with a contrived reason to call itself Adrenaline, but it really is an apt name without reference by any plot element. The author takes us on one wild ride.Listen to the very beginning. I was sucked in immediately!"Once my wife asked me: if you knew this was our final day together, what would you say to me?We’d been married for all of a year. We were lying in bed, watching the sun begin to shine through the heavy curtains, and I answered her with the truth: anything but good-bye. I can’t ever say good-bye to you.Two years later, that final day started as most of my days did.”The protagonist, Sam Capra, works for the CIA. He is in his mid-twenties, tall, with dark blond hair, and keeps fit by practicing Olympic sorts of jumps and flips off of walls and ceilings and stairways – this will come in handy! (Called Parkour, this is the real-life non-competitive sport originating in France of traversing mainly urban landscapes by running, climbing, vaulting, and other acrobatic movements.) There is terrorism, betrayal, treason, lots of deaths, and an international chase. There is definitely a lot of adrenaline. Criticisms: The author seems to know that cardboard bad guys are bad things, and tries to make them a little complex, but it just doesn’t come off. Some of the bad guys end up being bizarre chimeras, like the murderous rapist who likes Dickens. The CIA and a rival group are just WAY too effective. It took ten years to find Bin Laden, who much of the time was hiding in plain sight, but in this book these guys can find anyone anywhere in the world in a matter of hours or at most, days. And if you think the finding of people is fast, you should see how quickly everybody can hack into secure computer systems. And by quickly, I mean, in the time it might take you to get in the car, buckle your seatbelt and put on your sunglasses, the person next to you has whipped out a portable computer from the glove compartment and broken into security cameras all over the city. And we won't even talk about the many improbable escapes from many bad guys bearing many bad weapons!Evaluation: I had fun reading this, although I had to make a BIG effort to suspend believability. However, IF you need a light read, and IF you don’t mind the shark-jumping premise of way too much competency and invulnerability, this is a good choice!
