I loved it just as much as I did when I first read the book when it came out. I was happy I could read/hear the story again after so many years. though I do wish I knew where my book was because I definitely prefer to read, this is my second audio book and I still don't like it when they change their voices for each character. I kept imaging myself smacking Lydia and Emmett upside the head and telling them to use regular voices not ridiculous stick up the butt high society southern tones. but other than that it's Jayne Castle what's not to love about her and her writing.

Classic Jayne Castle/krentz. It’s extremely formulaic. Each of these books is much like the other.

I really enjoyed these in the late 90’s/2000’s, but they don’t seem to hold up to the test of time. The psi powers were fresh and cutting edge, and set the stage for many other authors to follow. Unfortunately, while Castle’s world building is intriguing, the characterizations are extremely flat. Every guy is the same. Every woman is, too. Even the villains and dust bunnies are just the same flat undeveloped character from book to book.

Though these books are set in the future in an alternate universe, they still have an old fashioned feeling. The language leans toward being over the top and unnatural. Phrases like “Now, see here” just feel like weird filler.

Krentz does have a talent for a bit of witty, dry humor. That shows up much better reading the books. This narrator, in particular, is terrible at understanding and expressing any humor at all. Every single line that she delivers for the heroine sounds stuffy and mean. Very much “Diane” from Cheers. There were so many opportunities to show humor that instead showed a nasty temperament. Her male character voices were cringeworthy. She is certainly professional, but she was simply not suited to these books.

If you enjoy this series, by all means, give it a listen. But you may find more enjoyment skipping the audio version and going with print.

This story did not disappoint, especially the dust bunny, Rose. Love the Alien Catacombs and the tricks left behind. The World of Harmony just keeps getting better.

This third Harmony paranormal romance takes place in Cadence City. Elly St. Clair is from a Guild family but she doesn't have the usual ghost hunter or tangler paranormal powers. That makes her family think that she is somehow fragile and needs protecting. But Elly has a new unusual paranormal power and she is neither fragile or helpless. When her romance with new Aurora Springs Guild boss Cooper Boone disappoints her, she decides to start again in Cadence City. She had fallen in love with Cooper but doesn't think he loves her. She's afraid that he only wants her because of her Guild connections. She opens an herb shop, adopts a dust bunny named Rose, and makes friends with some of her neighborhood ruin rats. But Cooper isn't willing to let her go. He has a plan to win her back but decides to give her some time in the hopes that she will miss him. After six months, he heads to Cadence City to win back his girl.Cooper arrives at a bad time. One of Elly's friends has been attacked down in the catacombs. Elly is determined to find her and Cooper's reappearance in her life is fortuitous since she needs a ghost hunter to help her locate her friend. Finding her friend leads to all sorts of problems including a new drug sweeping the city and someone determined to frame Cooper for its presence. Also, Cooper himself has an unusual and secret paranormal talent.Besides the usual romantic misunderstandings between the two characters, there are all sorts of secrets to uncover for both characters. Elly's ability to see the psi emanations of plants and Cooper's ability to work with blue light mean that psychic talents are increasing and diversifying among the settlers of Harmony. They are also dealing with a villain who wants what Elly can do for him since he is eager to use her and her Guild connections and doesn't care who dies along the way. I thought Elly was a little bit whiny but ultimately enjoyed this science fiction lite paranormal romance. I am especially fond of dust bunnies and Rose is a great one. I loved her fascination with wearing Elly's bracelets as necklaces. I also like the idea of hidden rainforests down in the catalcombs built by long-fone aliens. This one would be great for people who want a little science fiction and lots of romance in their reading. The narrator did a nice job with the pacing of the story.

She may be engaged to, and in love with, Aurora's new Guild boss, but Elly St. Clair is pretty sure that her fiance doesn't love her back. Unwilling to stick around and play the dutiful wife to a man whose mind is totally consumed by business, Elly heads to Cadence, opens an herbal shop, and starts enjoying life.Ghost hunter Cooper Boone figured he'd give Elly six months to tire of city life, then go reclaim his wayward fiance - unfortunately for him, what he finds isn't exactly the shy little country mouse happy to return home. Elly's perfectly happy with her new life - but she does have another little problem Cooper can help her with...Two characters with hidden depths, a dust bunny with great fashion sense, and the problem of romance complicated by murder and drug dealing. The world of Harmony continues to entertain.

Cooper the Local Guild boss still cares for Elly even after she throws their engagement ring and goes after her in Cadence City.

This is a romance with a bit of a mystery that takes place of a planet far away which is covered by alien ruins which cause some of the locals to develop psychic powers. Not a very good description, but to go into more detail seems like too much effort of a sci-fi romance novel. The book wasn't bad, although the characters seemed sort of bland and some of their dark secrets really had no real feeling of emotion when they finally shared the info. The bad part was the sex. A book needs to either give the reader some details to get them hot and bothered, or at least make them think the characters are actually hot and bothered, or just do the fade to black and let the reader use their own imagination. This was the most bland and tepid sex scenes I have ever seen. Lines like "he touched her in all the right places" are just too vague and add to the trouble connecting emotionally with the characters that I found in the rest of the book.

Another of Castle's paranormal romances set on the planet Harmony, where psychic abilities abound. Elly finds evidence that the local Guild boss only wants to marry her because of her impeccable Guild lineage and connections. Infuriated, she gives back his ring, resigns her stifling academic job, and moves to the big city to start a new life as an herbalist. Six months later, he follows her to patch things up. But neither of them fully understands the other....Both Elly and Connor have nonstandard psychic abilities which they have spent their lifetimes hiding. Good thing, too, since the local druglord has a plot which threatens them and their friends.Although this falls very firmly in the romance genre, Castle handles the fantastic elements well enough to satisfy this science fiction/fantasy fan.

I have really been enjoying this series. I'm going to give it 4 stars because I liked the plot. However, the audio reader was not to my taste - the sex scenes were cringe inducing as it sounded like my grandmother reading to me.

A more engaging novel than the two previous in the Harmony series, Ghost Hunter is the tale of Cooper Boone, ghost hunter guild boss of the Cadence suburb of Aurora Springs, and Elly St. Clair, daughter of a guild boss with a new psi talent, the ability to resonate with plants. Cooper and Elly are on the trail of some drug dealers and a 'blue freak,' a hunter who can make and manipulate blue ghost energy, something previously unheard of. Because of the nuances of these two rare psi talents, I found this story to be more interesting. Castle is a master of creating a world and then building up on it. Her paranormal romances resonate with exciting twists. Really, it's like reading three genres at once: romance, science fiction, and mystery. I would definitely recommend this book to a fan of any of those genres.

Interesting twist on the usual Guild bosses. Thought the author could've done more with the romance angle though. Overall, can't wait for the next one!
