About this audiobook
SOMETHING DARK AND EVIL HAS AWAKENED. . . .
Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City-and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It's 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult.
Evie worries her uncle will discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer.
As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho is hiding a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened. . . .
Includes an Introduction read by Libba Bray.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a well researched book! As always I’m a bit put off by the romance in a novel that is about anything else but it wasn’t tacky. I preferred Sam surprisingly. Maybe because in my head I was rooting for Mabel hahaha
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved it and am happy to have found my favorite voice actress.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Mystery, paranormal and historical fiction combine for this creepy, chilling and atmospheric tale that leaves you wanting more. The narrator is extremely talented and does an excellent job at bringing the story and these characters to life.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It is a 3 star just because of the level of enjoyment. it was entertaining enough to be force to finish it. However, the character were not relatable, there was no twist that was not seen a mile away and I really did not care about what happen to the characters at the end. So, don´t know if i am continuing with the next one, but if you want something .... that could have been original set in a great historical period, go ahead and read along.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I don’t know if it was just me, but I was listening to this audiobook and it kept skipping big chunks of narrative within chapters - at the end of chapter one it goes into chapter three! Annoyed, because I really wanted to listen to this today. Oh well, will just have to read it physically.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Best audiobook ever! The story is spooky and magic. The narrator is so wonderful that I'm gonna try my best on listening all the audiobook she is going to narrate!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My first audiobook and this was amazinggg can’t wait to listen and read the next one!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book! I really loved the twenties setting. The characters were cool and loveable, but also human! Loved the creepy vibe
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was such a great audiobook to listen to. The narrator did such an amazing job with all the voices and I can't wait to listen to the others.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5First audiobook listened to. Narration is amazing, story is well told and intriguing. I couldn't stop listening.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Everything I could want in a spooky story. It's human and supernatural, it's sweet and fun and sad and scary. It's well written, capturing the atmosphere of the 20's,everything taking its time to develop, but never boring. And Evangeline is a dream! Plus the narration is perfect and on point. Even a journalist from that era sounds exactly as I would have imagined!!! For sure will continue with this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Diviners is well written and I appreciated the aesthetic of the roaring 1920s. On the other hand, damn anyone for taking bible verses out of context!! UGH! It makes me want to gag! I mean the world is full of crazies like the Brethren in the Pillar of Fire Church cult. David Koresh anyone?
The evil that is introduced in the beginning via a group of unsuspecting partygoers playing with a cursed ouija board, calls himself Naughty John. I was blown away with the semblance that something had been unleashed and now resides in a place of evil in a cellar of a dilapidated house. Admittedly I was terrified mmk? - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I NEED the next one!
