About this audiobook

Dear Reader,

Being trapped in a bedroom with a woman is a grand thing. Being trapped in hundreds of bedrooms over two thousand years isn't. And being cursed into a book as a love-slave for eternity can ruin even a Spartan warrior's day.

As a love-slave, I know everything about women. How to touch them, how to savor them, and most of all, how to pleasure them. But when I was summoned to fulfill Grace Alexander's sexual fantasies, I found the first woman in history who saw me as a man with a tormented past. She alone bothered to take me out of the bedroom and onto the world. She taught me to love again.

But I was not born to love. I was cursed to walk eternity alone. As a general, I had long ago accepted my sentence. Yet now I have found Grace--the one thing my wounded heart cannot survive without. Sure, love can heal all wounds, but can it break a two-thousand-year-old curse?

I haven't read anything from the Dark Hunterverse in a while and I wanted to get back to it so I've decided to re-read my way through all the books I've read so far. All I will say is that it's still has exciting as I remembered. I really enjoyed Grace's and Julian's story. Ms. Kenyon is a great storyteller.

This romance is pretty much what you might expect from its title. I had to suspend my disbelief multiple times, but I still enjoyed this one overall and look forward to continuing the series.

For my #4 Challenge ('F' Word For Fall), I read Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Julian of Macedon was every woman's fantasy: tall, broad-shouldered and sexy as anything. It seemed that he would have any man's fantasy: any woman he wanted. However, for thousands of years he had been cursed to live inside a Greek spell book and fulfill every woman's deepest fantasies at the cost of his own - a woman and a family to love him.Grace Alexander is a sex therapist whose friend believes needs a seriously sexy birthday present - a Greek love-slave to fulfill her every need for a month. On Grace's birthday, Selena conjures up Julian and blissfully gives Grace her "present". Grace is shocked when the naked Julian appears in her living room and begins to tend to her. She does the one thing Julian never expects any woman to do, she refuses to have sex with him.As the month goes by, Grace and Julian grow closer and Julian begins to hope that he can break the curse and go home. However, the more he gets to know Grace, the more he begins to believe home is where his heart lies - with Grace. I loved this story and give it an A+!

I read this book because I was looking for something a little erotic, but still interesting. I ended up enjoying the plot more than I anticipated. I got through this book very quickly because I was hooked. I wasn't crazy about some of the Greek mythology and the way those characters were portrayed, but I definitely loved the overall story and found the main character to be very likable.

I had read this long ago and hoped I would still enjoy it. I did, but you have to realize I am a sucker for fiction that combines modern day with mythology and this book has that aplenty. While Julian was over the top, that was part of the curse, so I could forgive the campy "we all lust after the sexy man" scenes. Grace was a well-rounded character that I could empathize with. The book is a quick read, but sometimes I want a piece of fluff mixed in. This filled that slot nicely.Recommended for fans of paranormal romance or those who like a dose of myth in their fiction.

This is a book that doesn't take itself too seriously, and you shouldn't either. It's a lot of fun, and Julian is definitely one of the better PNR male leads I've met. Grace falls flat sometimes, but that's part of the fun if you are willing to see her as a flawed and failing character trying to do what is right while hiding from her own past. Like-ya know-most of us. She says stupid things, makes assumptions, is in absolutely the wrong job for her, has some massive denial issues, and is just very human.

The world is fairly original (Greek gods crop up from time to time in PNR, but not nearly as often as vamps and shifters) and the gods are (in their own way) just as human as Grace.

If you are willing to laugh and cry along with characters who are muddling their way through a REALLY fucked up situation as best they can, and in the process falling in love and learning how ot make some things right, you'll enjoy this read.

Every once in a while I'm in the mood for a sexy paranormal story so I grabbed this book as the author is well-known. The premise sounded interesting: a sex slave trapped in a book doomed to be called out periodically to service women for one month. However, Grace Alexander is a sex therapist who really isn't into sex, having had bad experiences in the past. Julien of Macedon is frustrated by her rebuffs and unsure of her attempts to help him break his curse.Unfortunately, this book was more silly than anything. The characters were unbelievable and pretty much boring. The constant women lovestruck (or sexstruck) by Julien seemed ridiculous. Grace was mostly inane. So this book isn't for me, though I know lots of people like this author. I'll try someone else next time.

A cute story with an imaginative take on the pettiness of the Gods in Greek/Roman mythology.

The dialogue is, however, juvenile and the angst felt by the romantic leads becomes somewhat repetitive as the book progresses.

Such a sweet story I almost got a cavity ! It is so easy to fall in love with her characters. A God like man(Julian of Macedon) in all ways, broken and unloved for thousands of years, finally has the chance to know real love and freedom. A women(grace), kind, educated and independent, that has been badly used by a man in the past. She has the chance to know true love, to live fully if only they can open to each other and end the terrible curse. Ah, they are so sweet you just can't help but cheer for them. This book just made me feel "good".

It may not be super awesome, but I just can't turn on my girl Sherrilyn. She's the only romance author I actually look forward to reading. My main problem with romance is the love/lust thing. In this book, it's especially painful, because it's basically all ABOUT lust (um, sex-slave, yeah). And I guess there are reasons for Grace and Julian to actually be in love, but... it's mostly still sex. I know, I know, that's the POINT of a romance novel... but it's just hard to get around. This book does have some cool Greek god stuff going for it though. I enjoyed that stuff. The writing and characters really aren't stellar in this book. If we're dreadfully honest, it's just kind of meh. BUT I still really enjoyed it because I'm so stinking tired of reading serious books. It was great to just surrender my emotions and thoughts and sorrows and just get absorbed in a ridiculous little romance that required very little thought.I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, honestly. I feel bad talking dirt about anything my girl Sherrilyn writes. Let's just hope for better on the next one.

I was never really pulled into this story. It started out interesting enough but soon got heavy with sexual frustration and the torture was so over the top that it stretched belief. Dr Grace summons Spartan warrior Julian who is trapped as a love-slave.

What can I say, I really didn't care for this cheesy prequel to Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Basically, I wish it had not been "advertised" as a part of the series - perhaps I wouldn't have had the displeasure of reading it.

I give it two stars, only for the flashbacks and insights into Julian's past. The rest of the book was pure camembert!

★★★★★ Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon unofficial book 1 in the Dark Hunter Series

While this is not officially a Dark Hunter book, it truly is the first of the series.
Grace is a sex therapist. She is told all kinds of wild and crazy dreams. But her friend Selena is worried, because how can she give sex advice, without having sex. She gives her a book, and says its Graces answer. Grace is very skeptical, but the is a picture of the Greek love slave Julian, in it. Supposedly he has been curse for the last 2000 years, to be at the beckon call of who ever reads the book. Of course Grace does not believe this, but to shut up Selena she takes it home. Curiosity gets the best of her, and low and behold, Julian emerges from the pages of the book.
She takes him out and shows him the world. No one has ever done that before. He has always been used, then sent back into the book, until the next woman read it.
I just love their experiences trying to buy him clothes, since he has been fully nude for 2000 years. And to see how he learns to fit into New Orleans is also fun.

    2.5 Stars-

There were some sweet and poignant moments in the book. I particularly liked the way the characters related to one another and cared for each other, there was a tenderness and love between them that was quite touching, but too many other things bothered me:

~Too many deus ex machinas, especially toward the somewhat ridiculous ending where everything completely unravelled into a near farce.
~Formulaic plotlines galore, despite the initial intriguing premise. Sometimes it felt that the author was trying to fill the pages with unnecesary conflict which really had nothing to do with the central plot.

Despite its flaws, the book was ultimately readable and enjoyable.

I absolutely loved this book. Being as it's a prequel type book, I'm still not sure about the series, but if the series is anything like this book, I'm going to love it.I love Greek mythology and always have, so this was right in my wheelhouse and I loved every moment of it. I wasn't quite so sure at first, because I didn't think I'd like Julian. I figured that he'd be a bad character, but he isn't. I love his interactions with Grace. I also absolutely loved that they weren't the focus and there was story line with one of Grace's patients.

Grace is a therapist, a sex therapist to be exact, her best friend a tarot reading gypsy-blooded Selena has decided Grace needs to heal from her first disastrous time with a total tool and she tricks Grace to summon a Greek Love-Slave from an old book.Julian of Macedon, a Spartan general, has spent near two thousand years in the book, cursed there by his half-brother, and summoned out only by women who want him for his body - and what a body! Being a demigod he's a sight aphrodisiac to human women, so much so that he is irresistible. As Grace summons him he figures out something is different this time, first Grace doesn't want to sleep with him, and second her treating him like a man awakens weird feelings in him.As more of who Julian is revealed feelings blossom between the couple but neither one wants to admit them, better yet acknowledge them - but as it comes out that there might be a way for Julian to be free from the book things take turn to worse. It's not easy to choose life after over 2000 years of emotional torture.I loved this book! It sure is a hot read! I can't help but love books where the hero sets out to seduce the heroine, especially when the hero is rugged gorgeous Spartan Warrior! *SWOON* Alright let me get it together... there we go... no wait, okay, I got it.I loved the plot, sure it was simple but with great twists! It was easy flowing to read and Kenyon writes in a way that you feel close connected to the characters, which helps so much to see the world and get immersed in it.Fantasy Lover was deliciously sexy, dark and tempting and a surprise very funny quick read! Julian's out-of-place-ness, if one can use that as a word is hilarious, but at times heartbreaking, and this book is a perfect mix of both.I loved Julian, he was so dark and conflicted, but sexy as hell. I loved that he didn't like public places where women swooned over him, it gave him just what the doctor ordered to be a great male lead.Could not help but to love Grace as well, she saw Julian as a human being and not as a mystical creature, a love-slave. She wanted to help him adjust to where he was, and this is bit heartbreaking; she was the first women in 2000 years who wanted to give him the dignity to wear clothes, which he didn't know how to handle...I did not expect this book to be so good! I was very pleasantly surprised! This book works well for you if you want a break from vampires and werewolves, but still want your Paranormal Romance kick!
