- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I don't know the science of the Methane (Fire Ice), but it strikes me as being credible. These books almost seem to take their cue from some of the countless ships that Clive Cussler has located in real life. This story has a tragic event, but unlike many of the Pitt series the results are far less dramatic and flamboyant. Austin certainly enjoys the beautiful woman that NUMA scientists seem to have a knack for finding wherever they go, but again it is toned down quite a bit. Whether on his own or in collaboration with another author, if a book has Clive Cussler's name on it you invariable get your money's worth.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A bit disappointing.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Another one that fits right into the formula for the Cussler stable. I still like Paul K as one of the best writers in the stable - good job.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5St. Bart's 2014 #1 - Another good Cussler romp with the folks of NUMA.....still plenty of unbelievability here, but these reads are for pure relaxing fun and I thoroughly enjoy them......learned a lot about the Black Sea, methane hydrate, and a new take on Noah's Ark! And oddly enough, as I finished this adventure (which contains a tsunami taking place in my home state of Maine) on my Caribbean vacation, I went online to check on news back home, and there was a headline in my local Maine newspaper about Maine officials making plans if Maine should ever have a tsunami! I love it when that happens.....life imitating art sort of......all in all, a great beach read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The four stars is VERY GENEROUS. The story was semi-complex, with lots of characters/scenes that had to be kept in mind as each event took place. The ending was crap. Oh well, it is Christmas time so will give it four instead of three stars. 3.51 that rounds to 4
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The Kurt Austin stories just don't hold my interest the way that the Dirk Pitt stories do. Fire Ice was okay, but it was too predictable. Austen's "special assignments team" has virtually nothing to do (especially Gamay Trout...why was she even in this book?).
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5BORING. Kurt Austin is a flat character who is totally unnecessary in these stories. Another case of a character with too many skills and not enough weaknesses. And does he have to sleep with every beautiful woman in the stories?
