About this audiobook

My name is Chloe Saunders. I'm fifteen, and I would love to be normal.

But normal is one thing I'm not.

For one thing, I'm having these feelings for a certain antisocial werewolf and his sweet-tempered brother—who just happens to be a sorcerer—but, between you and me, I'm leaning toward the werewolf.

Not normal.

My friends and I are also on the run from an evil corporation that wants to get rid of us—permanently.

Definitely not normal.

And finally, I'm a genetically altered necro-mancer who can raise the dead, rotting corpses and all, without even trying.

As far away from normal as it gets.

Author

Kelley Armstrong

When librarians finally granted Kelley Armstrong an adult card, she made straight for the epic fantasy and horror shelves. She spent the rest of her childhood and teen years happily roaming fantastical and terrible worlds, and vowed that someday she'd write a story combining swords, sorcery, and the ravenous undead. That story began with the New York Times bestselling Sea of Shadows and continues with Empire of Night. Armstrong's first works for teens were the New York Times bestselling Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising trilogies. She lives in rural Ontario with her husband, three children, and far too many pets.

Reason for Reading: Next and final book in the trilogy.Summary: The four supernatural teens finally arrive at a safe house only it may not be as safe as it seems. In this concluding book of the trilogy they prepare for the final showdown with The Edison Group and try to rescue those who are still in their clutches.Comments: One can't give much information on what happens in this conclusion as it is all so dependent on the previous books with everything finally all coming together. What I can tell you is that it is a brilliant, satisfying conclusion! A fast-paced read with plenty of reveals and shockers throughout. While Ms. Armstrong has kept the high octane action fore and centre, she has also managed to fully develop Derek, Simon, Tori and Chloe's characters and relationships. They have all changed so much from the characters we first met in "The Summoning".This is one of the best supernatural YA trilogies I've read in some years. The Reckoning is a worthy conclusion that fans will appreciate having had the wait. The ending is quite interesting. Leaving us with a complete, finite finish and yet also leaving a few dangling threads and foreshadowing the upcoming future of the characters. This leaves the reader satisfied that the story is over, yet also leaves room for one to hope we may yet see these characters again. Which brings us to Kelley's next YA book due out next spring, "The Gathering". A visit to the author's website reveals it described as continuing the series while giving the current characters "a well-deserved break". From this I could envision this series continuing on indefinitely as sets of trilogies which really makes me excited. Now if I could only find the time to start her adult series, which is set in the same world!

This is the third and final book in the darkest powers trilogy there may be spoilers from the first two books you have been warned!I’ve really enjoyed this young adult series by Kelly Armstrong, and so I’m definitely going to be checking out her adult books in the near future. If you’re reading this review then I take it you’ve read the other two books and know what the story’s about so I won’t go into that. Chances are if you enjoyed the first two books you’re going to enjoy this one- I know I did! As usual the writing was brilliant, the plot action packed and the characters their usual delightful selves. I really wanted to give this book 5 star’s because I really have enjoyed this series but I was really rather peeved that a lot of my questions didn’t get answered. I know that Kelley’s releasing another series set in this world with some of the characters from this series in it but I felt a bit cheated that if you want some answers you’ll have to read the other series to find out. I really think that was unfair and she should have tied everything up properly. You don’t get to find out why Chloe’s necklace changes colour and what that means. Nor do you get to really find out what happens to Rae which really irked me. I will be reading The Gathering though so hopefully I’ll get my answers eventually, but still definitely a bit of a con to get others to read her next series. Over all though I thought this was a very enjoyable book and I loved seeing Chloe get the boy I hoped she’d end up with. Thank you Kelley Armstrong for writing such a wonderfully action packed original series. 4 stars.

3.5 stars It may not be a very well-written series. I can't say it's a satisfying end to a trilogy. It leaves more questions than answers, making me wonder how this could be the end. But I really did love Chloe, and the trilogy was worth reading for her. Ass-kicking heroine, check. Well developed love angle, check. What more can you ask from a YA novel? And did I mention that Chloe and Derek are the cutest?

5 stars for the romantic development!

Somehow my ratings and reviews were lost for this book series, so my review won't be as detailed as before.

I loved this book series and I read them as fast as I can. I love the main character Chloe and the world the author created. Chloe and the people she meets along the way go through quite a roller coaster of events.

This has a little bit of everything with action, paranormal, fantasy, and a little romance (Which is just how I like it, just blended into the story and not the main focal point.)

I would definitely recommend this book series to people.

n the third book of Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers Trilogy, Chloe Saunders and her friends, Simon (the sorcerer), Tori (the witch) and Derek (the werewolf) are still on the run from the Edison Group. They've taken refuge (at least temporarily) with another group whose purpose is to bring down the Edison Group. The teenagers are still learning about their powers and still trying to figure out where they fit into this world but they are quickly running out of time as the Edison Group closes in and they people that are helping them might just have ulterior motives.

Like the other books in this series, I devoured The Reckoning. It's a fast paced book with lots of action and I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to Chloe and how she was going to make her way to safety. Unfortunately, The Reckoning doesn't appear to be the end of Chloe's story and I'm going to have to wait for Armstrong to make her way back to Chloe. I just hope she hurries.

I know, I know, the book blurbs make this trilogy sound terribly pedestrian, but you know what? Everyone has their guilty pleasure reads and I actually wouldn’t mind reading The Darkest Powers again. Sure, The Reckoning got on my nerves a bit, especially when I came to the end and there were so many loose ends floating around. Honestly, that was the closest I got to being annoyed, and usually at the first hint of a trope I’m already groaning …

I did what any responsible reader would do in my situation, I went on the author’s site and tried to figure out if there were more books. Turns out, there are, but it’s a companion trilogy that follows other characters. WHY? Why would an author invest all this time developing characters, designing a wonderful plot, make readers addicted to the story, and then decide: “Fuck it, let’s continue this story without the main characters of the first trilogy”? So, I decided not to continue reading the other books and I’m quite happy with my decision.

Yes, there are loose ends, but sometimes it’s better to mull over the outcomes of a story. After all, imagination is free.

All in all, I liked this trilogy a lot and it’s definitely in my guilty pleasure book pile (did I say that yet?), along with The Vampire Academy. However, take note that if you’re not one for half-assed reading, you might want to either get the companion trilogy or give this one a miss.

Oh, and I still have no idea why Chloe’s necklace changes colours …

This ending was stunning. what makes it so stunning, I hear you ask. Well it is not a perfect ending, they are not saved magically from their situations. they are still working it out when the book ends. *Evil Smile* this also means that the series could easily be picked up again by the author.

I finally have read this stupid thing. I've only been looking for my own copy for the last two years. I just wanted to finish the story! I wanted all my books to match on my shelf!

Unfortunately I am in a fight with Amazon right now, so I can't be completely excited about owning this book yet.

But anyways. The book finally arrived, it's taken me less the 24 hours to finish it and I am so freakin happy! I finally get to know what happens to all the children. I felt so bad for them. I don't understand why everyone wanted them dead. They are just kids. Jeeze. Let them be all magical and junk. They really haven't done anything wrong.

There was so much death and destruction and magic and it was awesome. The battle scenes are great. And I'm happy Liz came back. I like her.

I'm glad Derek gets a happy ending. I felt bad for him. Poor kid.

There could be another one though. I don't know how good it would be because these three books were great. But.... If she wrote a forth one, I wouldn't mind.

Very fast-paced. Not, in my opinion, as interesting as the first, because there were so many 'chase scenes' and 'fights' - which I don't like. Never did find out what's up with the necklace changing color. And, for those folks saying 'it didn't end' or 'there's no closure' - well, Chloe kept reminding us this isn't a movie, but real life, and real life doesn't just tie up the loose ends and go on to HEA when the credits roll....

This was a very quick read for me. I was so excited that the series was finally going to be finished, but I have to say that I am a tiny bit disappointed. While this was just as well written and exciting as the others, it felt unfinished. Yes their immediate adventure was over, but it definitely felt like the story could continue and I was disappointed that it is being billed a trilogy making this one the last one. I hope that they decide to make more of these because the premise of the series is interesting.

Given that this book came out quite some time ago, and I read The Awakening equally long ago, I was a bit nervous that I would read this book and not be able to follow it because it’d been so long since I’ve read the series. Even though Kelley Armstrong doesn’t do a whole much in the way of recap, I found I was easily able to catch back up to speed with the story.
This book was excellent though, within the world I do admit that I prefer Chloe’s books to Maya’s (but then it’s me choosing a necromancer over a shifter and to be honest that’s really not surprising at all). Kelley Armstrong just writes really good, solid, YA urban fantasy. Working in the Edison Group and the kids being products of research to make supernaturals even stronger is a good twist.
I love that the romance isn’t too overblown. What I loved even more was that, well, Derek is a jerk for most of the series. A lot of YA heroines would take it simply because well he’s a werewolf and he’s cute. That’s obviously really freaking annoying because Derek is protective to the point of controlling and I didn’t really like him up to this point of the series. However, there is a point in this book in which Chloe tells him that how he treats her is wrong and makes him change and treat her better. Praise the YA gods for Kelley Armstrong making a good heroine. Because writing a necromancer can be a sketchy business and I really like the way Chloe’s character is handled.
This was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy with just enough left unexplained to continue on in further works (I know that the last book of the Darkest Rising trilogy is where she’s bringing together Chloe’s group and Maya’s group, so that should be exciting). This is a just a great urban fantasy series overall and this book was simply fantastic.

The last in the Y/A trilogy featuring Chloe and her supernatural friends trying to elude recapture by the Edison Group. In this book the teenagers are still on the run and slowly finding out the true extent of their enhanced powers. I read this series out of curiousity because I am such a fan of her “Otherworld” series. As Y/A books go, Ms. Armstrong does a good job and hints at the Otherwold series enough (I really kept expecting Elena and Clay to make a cameo appearance) to keep me interested as a reader.

This book has loads of teenage drama and romance. For me there was just way too much and for once I had to struggle to finish a book. Chloe being in love with Simon and then trying to tell that now she was in love with Derek was just weird. The fact that they tried to undo the awkwardness of the book by adding super powers to the mix was totally not necessary. I mean it was too bad because the other 2 stories were amazing.

Warning: May contain spoilers At the end of The Awakening we saw that Chloe, Simon, Derek and Tori had made it to Andrews who in turn put them up in a safe house. But its not as safe as they think. Andrew has brought in a group of adult supernatural buddies to help the kids and teach them. Only one problem, half of them don't believe what they have been through or just how powerful they are, and when they witness just how fast the powers are developing they soon become cautious and its not long before we get a whiff of the Edison Group again. After being by themselves for so long, the kids are finding it hard to trust those around them. But even with all the conspiracy theories firing left right and center, it still doesn't stop a love triangle forming between Chole, Derek and Simon. Simon is in love with Chloe, and while she cares deeply for Simon she cant help be drawn to Derek, trouble is she's either too blind to see she has feeling for him or just doesn't want to admit it to herself, as then it would mean hurting one of them in the process of elimination. I won't go into full detail about who she does or doesn't end up with, because its not for me to spoil. But everything about it is cute and adorable and just swoon worthy I loved this book, not as much as The Awakening, but still a lot. I think it was well written, the characters well thought out and that it was a good ending to a really good series and I'm glad i finally got around to reading something by Kelley Armstrong after all these years.

This was a really amazing series, I loved it from start to finish and was completely obsessed with it. This book is a brilliant end to the three and left me smiling. It was ended in such a way that left me happy but with great room for it to continue. Kelley has also done some short stories around this series which are equally good and the characters are meant to be brought back at the end of the darkness rising series which i'm more than excited about.

I think this book had a great ending for the triology. I think this whole series is one of the best YA series I have read. It does not have all the teenage angst in it that most of the others have. There is also not a lot of romance in it (I do not mind and even enjoy romance in adult books, but not YA). Yes, there is a little, but it is more of a sideline to the story, if you could even call it that. The thing that drives me crazy with some YA books, is that these kids fall in love and cannot live without each other any more. Get real. In this book, you can see the romance blossom and that they care for each other and are protective of each other, but at a normal level. Not the "I am going to kill myself if I cannot be with whoever" level. Great book!! Can't wait until the next triology comes out.

Highly Recommended This was the third book in the first of two series trilogies. It is definitely recommended to read The Summoning and The Awakening first. The story is set in the East Coast. The Edison Group has been genetically modifying DNA to make humans more powerful. The main characters in this story include: witches, sorcerers, a necromancer, and ghosts. As soon as their powers start to show, they are put in a mental institution. Turns out that the mental institution is owned by the Edison Group and the kids have been tracked their entire lives. The Tori, Derek, Simon and Chloe are on the run because they know they are in danger and do not know who to trust. There are a lot of twists and turns. Chloe and Derek have a unique relationship that turn into something more, which the readers will probably root for. There are definitely themes of friendship, love, loyalty, honesty and responsibility woven in to the story. This is one of those books that I wish I would have read when it first came out. It will make for a good high school book display. The setting and the characters have so much detail that it is easy to get lost in the book. I think this book and this trilogy would make a great addition to a school or public library. It is a paranormal story that I think would have a larger audience appeal. It has a great mix of realism, history, action, romance and superpowers. The characters are likeable and strong. The reader is hoping they will rescue their friends and solve the mystery of who they are and where they came from. I don’t think there is anything that is objectionable for middle school or high school teens. It is a well written book that keeps the reader coming back for more. I think students will enjoy the companion website. I will also look for a book trailer to post in my Moodle page to advertise the book (or series) to students so they will come into the library to check it out.

Just great fun. Loved this book, it's a lot darker than the previous ones. Chloe is still getting to grips with her powers but she is strong so the dead and also becoming more twisted and ugly. I'm so pleased the author made sure Derek and Chloe got a couple of pages to themselves in this book. It's the sweetest romance. Not forced and introduced in hints in book one and two. Loved it and have ordered the Darkness Rising trilogy already!

Wraps up the YA offshoot story arc trilogy in Armstrong's overall world continuity with sorcerors, witches, werewolves, necromancers, demons and more. The trilogy stands independently though. (On some level that's got to be an oxymoron, but I'll live with it.)

Fun ready, just enough scary, and I like her heroine who really feels like a fifteen year old.

The covers are clearly framed for the Twilight market, but since my brief attempts at reading those has bounced off this seems a lot more to my taste and people I actually care what happens to. (And who make better overall decisions.)

Read this in pretty much one sitting - great entry in the series, but clearly not really an ending. I'm pleased to see that she has more YA Otherworld books to come, but will miss these characters if they don't show up later.

Chloe, Tori, Derek and Simon are safe now with Andrew, a friend of Simon and Derek’s father. Andrew introduces the kids to group of supernaturals (necromancer, witch and shaman) hoping they could teach the kids and helping them to control their powers. They don’t seem to believe that the Edison Group is actually trying to kill them. And when they found out how powerful the kids really are without training, things are starting to go from bad to worse.

Chloe has always been little too nice and I’m happy she’s finally learning to stand up and not letting others run her down. She finally stands up to Derek who seems to take out his frustrations on Chloe more than anyone else. Derek has his first Change and I love how supportive Chloe is about the thing. But I found it little funny how well she seems to understand Derek in his wolf form. How many different snort/frown can a wolf have? I love it how in books everyone knows what others are thinking and how eyes seems to show everything...

Tori has made some growing up and while she’s still bitchy she seems to be more part of the group. And the thing about her dad was so unexpected! I wish there would have some more information on that.

Simon wasn’t much in the book and it seemed his only purpose was to be a part of a love triangle. But for once the triangle didn’t bother me and the guys weren’t really fighting each other for it.

I still wish there would have been more about their powers. Like why were they given the experiences? What was the ulterior motive?

I enjoyed the book but it left the feeling that it was unfinished. As far as I know there’s no more books but I could be wrong though.
