- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5only 1/4 of this book was remotely interesting, and yet, i must complete the series....
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5After taking almost a year to read Twilight, this book seemed to fly by in under a week. I loved the fact that Bella's feelings were described so well that you can get lost in them and forget that they are her's and not yours. It had such a wonderful story that fit in as an individual book with the ups and downs, as well as fitting perfectly in it's place in the series.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Always whining Bella . . . that's it--stick a fork in me, I'm done. No more, I say. It would be masochistic to continue to trudge my way through this series, which I only began at the insistent urging of students eager for me to love it as much as they do. Sure, it has inspired a whole generation of girls to read, but isn't that negated by the fact that it also teaches them to be winsome damsels in distress waiting for a beautiful, angsty vampire to come save the day while simultaneously sweeping them out of lives of mediocrity? I don't know. If you love Twilight, bully for you. However, I shall seek out my vampire fix elsewhere.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this whole series! They are wonderful and I cannot wait for more to come out!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A vampire's girlfriend gets dumped.2.5/4 (Okay).I feel like Meyer knew where she wanted her plot and characters to end up, and just spent this book forcing them into that place, arcs and motivations be damned. The third book better have some sort of pay-off for all the BS, because this book is a mess.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I read the first installment of the Twilight Saga before the series became such a phenomenon. It was still very popular a the time, but it had yet to develop the extraordinarily obsessive fan base or the as nearly fanatical group of opponents as it has now. The whole state of affairs make me rather uncomfortable and somewhat reluctant to read any further. But, I do think it's important to be aware and at least a little knowledgeable of current reading trends, so I did finally pick up the second book New Moon. At least I can carry on an informed conversation now.The book begins with Bella's birthday. It is her senior year of high school and she is turning eighteen, in some ways making her older than the love of her life--Edward Cullen and his family are vampires, and he has been seventeen since 1918. Bella is not happy that she is growing older in age or that Edward still refuses to allow her to be changed into a vampire. When the Cullen's leave Forks without much explanation, Bella finds herself abandoned and heartbroken. Eventually, she finds interest in life again and renews her friendship with Jacob Black who lives on a nearby reservation. Soon, Bella will learn that vampires aren't the only danger lurking in Forks.I didn't notice it so much in the first book, but Edward is kind of an over-controlling jerk in addition to being gorgeous and charming. I like Jacob much more as a character (and no, I'm not going to declare any allegiance to one camp or another). Some nice things happen in New Moon--Edward clarifies some of his reasons behind wanting Bella to retain her mortality; more back-story is given to both the werewolves and vampires, including some unique twists hiding amongst the more generic conventions. However, some things were not so good. The majority of the first part of the book for one thing. Really, Bella, I got that you were devastated when Edward left, you didn't need to keep going on and on and on about it. (Granted, her friends felt pretty much the same.) Which brings me to the writing--it's either an extraordinarily authentic portrayal of a high school girl's voice, or just sub-par execution. Either way, the book could have seriously used another edit and an expanded vocabulary. (In at least one instance, within two pages of each other, a sentence was repeated with only a change in the word order.) And the almost continuous references and comparisons to Romeo and Juliet (et al.) were way overdone.I'm really not sure how these books became so outrageously popular, and I don't think they live up to the hype, but I will admit that they are oddly addicting. The first half or so of New Moon really had to be slogged through (I did like getting to know Jacob better, though) while the second part was much better and moved along quite nicely (and gave a more in-depth view of Meyer's vampires). The books are decent enough, but I had more issues with New Moon than I did with Twilight. I'm sure I'll get around to reading the third book, Eclipse, eventually, but I'm not in any sort of hurry. My favorite part of the series so far? Probably the covers.Experiments in Reading
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Even worse than the first. NO MAS!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this much more than Twilight. I haven't seen the film, (which I had with Twilight) so there was added suspense.I also found it more engaging because of the variety of characters and locations. The move away from High School and related matters was a welcome difference from Twilight.I did find the Bella/Jacob story a bit protracted, but otherwise I found this to be a great story and I can't wait to read Eclipse!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked this book a little more than the first. And I am already starting to enjoy the next in the series. I enjoyed reading about Bella and Jacob's time together.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have read this entire series from beginning to end at least 4 times. New Moon is by far the best read in the series. The way Meyer's describes heartbreak is phenomenal. Some feelings are so powerful and strong they are incredibly hard to put into words. However, Meyer's described a broken heart better than anyone else I've ever read. LOVE this book so much.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I didn't enjoy this segment of the Twilight opus as much as the first one. Maybe it's because like all the growth novels I read, I enjoy reading about the people growing into their powers/knowledge/whatever, but not so much when they've grown. I'm not sure why that is, but eh...At any rate, I feel like the crux of this novel is pretty simple and easy to relate to--at least for me. In middle/high school, I had several groups of friends who ranged from just being uncomfortable together to excessive loathing of the people in the other groups. I learned quickly who could hang out with who and what pairings were doomed to disaster.Bella's problem is both a little more obvious and a little more dangerous, but it's still the same basic problem--the best (fantasy?)fiction takes human problems and looks at it through a different angle, a sharper focus, as it were.Part of me is curious as to how Bella's going to handle the problem of vampires vs. werewolves, but at the same time, the character itself doesn't inspire me to care about her that much--maybe because she doesn't seem to care about herself. It's aggravating to me that she's basically done what young women are explicitly told NOT to do: define ourselves by our man.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Worst of the saga. Plus, what's the main event? Nothing much happened except depression and the stupidity of staying numb and being useless for months just because your boyfriend left you.
The only exciting thing here Jacob's turning out to be a werewolf. But it's not enough to make up for the rest of the book's lameness. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Reliving these books via audio has put me into a total Twilight mood. I haven't read the books for years so it's been fun listening for all the differences between the books and the movie adaptations.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked the first half. The part where the pages were literally blank was the straw that broke any chance I would continue the series. I remember being about 13, sprawled out in bed, looking at the blank pages, and thinking "she killed a tree for this".
Also I was convinced in book one that Bella was going to discover magic powers and have more agency, when this still didn't happen in book 2 I bowed out of the series. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I am currently rereading this book for what is probably the 10th time. I did truly enjoy this series of books. That said this volume in particular was my least favorite of the lot. I am looking forward to the upcoming movie, and hope that it will be much better than the first one was. Movies aside, I do hope that we have not heard the last of these loveable and memorable charactars.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5"You can have my soul. I don't want it without you - it's yours already!..." His name burned my throat a little on the way out. I could feel the ghost of the hole, waiting to rip itself wide again as soon as he disappeared...Every time I looked at his face, that impossibly perfect face, my heart pounded strong and healthy and very there in my chest...Are these Facebook posts by my sixteen year old new week/new-boyfriend cousin or lines from New Moon? Either way, you don't want to know any more...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is great!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Just finished New Moon. If you did not like Twilight, do not bother reading New Moon. Meyer's style remains the same. That being said, I DO enjoy this series, and thought that New Moon was a good sequel. It kept me interested for the larger part of the time. Meyer's repetition still grows old. Yes, we UNDERSTAND that Jacob is warm, now move on, already. Working past Meyer's style is still a little difficult, but I think that the story pays off for it. This entire series is more of a romance though, so if you are looking solely for action and gore, move on to something else- this is definitely the wrong book for you. Well, I'm off to read Eclipse now.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Like the first one, I enjoyed this book. This book series is what inspired me to start my own series. Stephanie Meyer tells such an enthralling story and sucks you in. The dialog is "real." It's a great series to just lose yourself in. This series makes reading fun!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I didn't enjoy this book as much as the last one but I blame that on Edward. I don't enjoy Jacob as much as I do Edward. I find reading chapters that Edward is not in, boring. I think his character is the best one in the series (so far). I also found this second book a little bit predictable. I was not surprised to lean that Jacob was a werewolf. However, it still grabbed me and made me not want to stop reading.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Poor Jacob, I think he got the short end in this one...
