What I liked about this book is that it was a quick read with all the proper set up of a cheap mystery romance novel, but without the lame addition that I feel dumber for reading it. It was actually well written. I felt the big reveals came a little sudden and unexpected, not in the climax sort of way. More in the, "huh? Wait, what just happened. Did I miss something?" Also, as others commented, the sex scenes were a little unexpected and graphic. I think they added a nice element to the story line, but they could have been a little more tasteful, less raw, to match the writing style of the rest of the book. I'm looking forward to reading more from Sandra Brown, as soon as I the desire to gain book knowledge through non-fiction or historical fiction gets out of my system.

Lethal by Sandra Brown begins with a bang as Honor Gillette and her daughter are kidnapped by a man believed to have already killed over six people. He seems to be searching for something and believes that Honor has what he wants. Unfortunately for Honor, she doesn't know what he is looking for and has no idea where to find it. And then she finds out that Lee Coburn isn't the only person that she could be in danger from.It has been ages since I've read a book by this author and I had forgotten how fast I could fly through them! The book begins almost instantly with fast-paced action and that pace didn't stop until the end of the book. I've always enjoyed how her short chapters keep me reading far longer than I mean to....I keep thinking one more chapter and before I know it I'm halfway through the book :) While Lethal was fast paced and filled with action, I struggled with the beginning of the book. I think that a lot of this had to do with the fact that Honor AND her daughter were in danger. I was so worried about her daughter and what was going to happen that I had a hard time just enjoying the book. But the second half of the book was much better for me and then I had a hard time of even setting the book down. The ending was surprising for me as it was unexpected in a few different ways. All in all, this was a good/solid read although I had a few issues with it. I'm going to have to go back and read some of this author's books that I have missed over the years because it has been awhile since I read anything by her. I think that romantic suspense fans will enjoy this read and I would recommend it.Bottom Line: A good read but not my favorite by this author.Disclosure: I was sent this book for review from the publisher. These are my honest thoughts :)

This was a really good romantic suspense novel by Sandra Brown. Lots of action, realistic romance, a cute kid, and tough cookie female protagonist, a dangerous, sexy, wounded male protaganist, and a different type of HEA ending. What more could you ask for? A woman finds a wounded man in by her house. She finds out he isn't really injured and she is now being held at gunpoint. The man thinks the ladies' deceased husband has left something at her house he needs. But, the womnan knows nothing. She thinks her nightmare is over when the man leaves without hurting her. But, then two of her husband's best friends come to her home to talk to her, and her nightmare returns in spades. To make things more interesting, there is a child involved, and some secondary characters that are comic relief and brave as well. This is not the typical heartwarming HEA we've become used to. Some people weren't too happy with the rather abrupt ending, but you just have to read between the lines a little. I think it's possible these two may come back at some point and be the start of a little series or trilogy or something. I hope so.

Honor Gillette's husband died a decorated cop. Now the wounded man her four-year-old daughter discovered passed out on their front lawn is holding the two of them hostage. He's already killed seven people, and he has some less than complimentary things to say about her dead husband. He's horrible... but is he right? Could her husband have been working for the deadly crime boss known as the Bookkeeper?I haven't read any of Brown's books in a while, but I was impressed - romantic suspense with likable (and dis-likable) characters, a plot, and an imagine-your-own happy ending. Not half bad.

LETHAL by Sandra BrownPublished by Grand Central PublishingHachette Book GroupISBN-13: 9781455501472ISBN: 1455501476 At the request of Grand Central Publishing, a HC was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion. My Thoughts and Opinion: I have been a fan of Ms. Brown's for many years, I would even guess since from when I was in college, so we are talking many, years. However, and I don't know why, but it has been quite a while since I have read one of her novels. So when I saw that this book was up for review, I requested to be one of the lucky reviewers. I doubt there are many avid readers who haven't heard of this best selling author and/or read one of her many books.I am so glad that I did because I realized just why it was that I became a fan so many years ago. I have to start with a caveat. Ever since I started book blogging, reviewing, meeting (through emails) and speaking to authors, publishers, and publicists, I have such a different outlook when I now read a novel. Yes, it still is for pleasure, enjoyment and entertainment but I now also think about what and how the author creates the characters, premise, the written words so that the reader can create their own imagery and be transported straight into the story and not even realize what is going on around them or even how much time has passed. How the author can create a cast of characters and weaves them together where they become so life like that you feel as if you know them is pure talent and Lethal had all that and more.Lethal was a phenomenal read!! A pure adrenaline rush from start to finish. A novel that was a non stop page turning, couldn't put down, white knuckle read. This reader will not be letting so much time pass in between Sandra Brown books again because I definitely was the one missing out on some great reading. My Rating: 5

Sandra Brown doesn't disappoint. However, I'm getting the feeling that her books are getting a bit too formulaic for my comfort level. The story does take you in right away, four year old Emily's mom, Honor, is icing chocolate cupcakes when Emily tells her mom that there's a man in the yard and that he's sick. Emily is concerned, but, like any kid, she wants some of the cupcakes. The opening few pages sets the tone of the book. Common activities of everyday people set the background for uncommon interruptions to their lives.I liked Honor, I thought she was written in a very believable way, she was as solid a heroine as can be written and Brown wrote Emily just as believable. We quickly learn that this man is no stranger in the yard. I liked the character of Coburn and thought Brown developed his character smoothly and with multiple layers and secrets. I didn't quite know where he was going and what he was really after. And that's always a plus for me! What did bother me was that Brown told the story using multiple points of view. I really hate that. For me, the story becomes disjointed and frays into threads.I generally like Brown's writing, but this just border lined as a bit too cookie-cutterish for me. I was also looking for a bit more romance. Lethal is one of the books where you can't write too much about the plot because it's too darn easy to give too much away. The multiple twists and turns kept me guessing and I didn't have the reveal figured out. So that's a good thing too! However, I will say this, I hate it when the solution to the mystery is a bit far fetched. I was not happy with the way things were tied up, so to speak. But Brown isn't the best selling author that she is by not crafting a good story with engaging characters and terrific plot lines.I do recommend Lethal, especially if you are already a fan of Sandra Brown's. But to be honest, I'd say wait for the paperback or get it on an e-reader.I'm giving this one 3 1/2 stars out of 5.I hope Brown gets back to her writing skills that first captured my attention as a reader a few books ago. This galley was provided to me by the publisher and in no way affected by review.

The story has it's flaws and her books are always unrealistic but this book is entertaining if you're trying to figure out who the bad guy is. The romance was alright, and the audio book was read really well. But the ending was a bit of a let down.

Perhaps one of the hardest things to do is trust someone. And perhaps deciding whom to trust and whom not to trust is one of the hardest decisions to make. Honor finds herself in a desperate situation, and if she makes the wrong decision, she will endanger not only herself, but also the life of her young daughter. Sandra Brown has written a complex and gripping tale of intrigue and suspense. Undercover agents, sting operations, dirty cops, and cover-ups abound in this tense novel. It’s a long and twisted journey to a satisfying end.

I have read numerous novels by Sandra Brown but this one has become my new favorite. It packed a punch from the opening chapter as daughter Emily comes into the kitchen eager to tell her Mother, Honor Gillette, that there is a man lying down in the yard that must be sick as he’s not moving. But in the midst of Emily’s mission to come tell her Mother something really important her attention is captivated by her mother’s actions in frosting a cake with chocolate icing! But although Emily is delighted by her Mother’s reply about licking the bowl she’s also worried about the sick man in the yard. Honor is now in definite “Mom listening mode” and realizes that there is definitely something to investigate in her backyard. WoW!Who does Honor trust when there’s corruption, betrayal, and murder? Does Honor trust the man that everyone else believes is a criminal? Or does she trust the people she’s always known? And as she tries to sort out the truth, how does she keep her daughter protected and safe? The stranger, Lee Coburn, is telling Honor things about her dead husband that she never knew and can hardly believe to be true. Honor has been grieving for Eddie for almost two (2) years now after a tragic accident. She knew him as an honorable man, a trustworthy man, a police officer, her husband and the father of Emily. Now everything seems inside out and upside down. Was her husband murdered? Was he murdered because he wasn’t a man of honor? Why is Honor having romantic thoughts about Lee? Is Emily’s reaction to Lee merely a child’s innocence to instinct or could there be more?Sandra Brown has blended murder, corruption, and relationships between mother and daughter, father-in-law and daughter-in-law, brothers, husband and wife, mother and father of a special needs child, supervisors and colleagues in various law enforcement agencies into one thrilling, page-turning, intriguing and suspenseful read all with a romantic twist. I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next and I wanted to hurry along but at the same time I didn’t want to miss any of the intrigue and details of each chapter that were building to the culmination of the truth and the reveal of how Honor would move beyond whatever answers were finally to be learned. I was totally captivated from cover-to-cover! Some novels should carry warnings: Reader may need to save title for weekend or vacation reading time. If read before bed during work week, the alarm clock buzzing in the morning for work will seem unusually loud and quite annoying as reader may have read past normal bedtime without awareness due to story absorption.

    4 Stars

Accused of multiple murders, Lee Coburn is on the run. Desperate and dangerous, Coburn seeks the answers he is looking for with Honor Gillette, whose late husband may have left in her possession the key that can bring down a vicious web of deceit and the depraved megalomaniac who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets.

Sandra Brown has always been a must-buy author for me and Lethal has all of the characteristics that make for a high-octane read: smooth pacing, a gripping plot, and compelling characters. Nevertheless, the weak romance, logical inconsistencies and disappointing ending ultimately undermine an otherwise entertaining book.

The man-on-the-run plot inevitably adds another layer of excitement to any romantic suspense novel and this is no exception. Coburn is your typical strong, mission focused, law enforcement type - a man with a hard past who finds it difficult to relate to or bond with others. Honor is a sweet heroine but also rather naive and what little chemistry she and Coburn have is not sufficient to make their romance believable.

While the suspense plot is action packed and the villains’ machinations ratchet up the tension, the identity of the Bookkeeper is glaringly obvious and given who the person is, the far-reaching influence they seem to have doesn’t make much sense.

Finally, the ending is a serious letdown and not in keeping with the nature of the genre. Romance readers have certain expectations and having an open ending like this one can ruin a book.

Overall, the book is entertaining but not as good as some of Brown’s earlier works. For a similar and more satisfying story, The Witness is a better bet.

Four year old Emily informs her mom there is a sick man in her yard. Unknown to Honor that sick man is Lee Coburn who is accused of a mass murder and is on the run looking for something. As always with a Sandra Brown I know what I am going to get, a page turner of a novel with a romance thrown in for good measure. This book is like all her others, a thriller with plenty of twists and turns and the hero to save the day. I enjoy the genre of the romantic suspense and I know that if I want to read something but look on my shelf and don't fancy anything grabbing a Sandra Brown does the trick. There isn't really a lot I can say that I haven't already in previous reviews, just that Sandra Brown is good at what she does.

Lethal was suspenseful with lots of action, but the "romance" wasn't believable. The hero was such a flawed person, it was hard to imagine the heroine wanting anything to do with him. The ending was open-ended, which isn't the norm for romantic suspense.

This was the first novel that I have ever read by Sandra Brown and I enjoyed every minute spent. She draws you in from the first page and holds onto her readers until the very last page.

When Honor Gillette's daughter finds a man laying in the front yard and he is discovered to be a suspect in the murder of 7 people, she knows that this will be no ordinary day. Lee Colburn, the suspect, is on the hunt for the mastermind in an illegal smuggling ring and suspects that Honor's dead police officer husband had the key to identifying the ringleader, The Bookkeeper. They must work together in unraveling what has happened and in order to discover who is really involved.

Each page propels you more and more into the depths of an underground world. Sandra Brown will thrill you, make you nervous, and keep you guessing until the very last page.

The lives of Honor Gillette - a young widow, and her 4-year-old daughter Emily, are disrupted when a wanted man, Lee Coburn, enters their house and demands Honor cooperate with him or Emily will be harmed. Coburn has been accused of killing seven men the night before, and now he is inexplicably (to Honor) seeking some mysterious unidentified information he claims was hidden by Honor’s late husband, who was a policeman in the small town of Tambour, Louisiana. As the local police and FBI launch a manhunt, Coburn takes Honor and Emily with him on the run, and Honor discovers nothing is as it seems and her closest friends are not who she thought they were. There are lots of suspenseful moments, twists, red herrings and romantic encounters in this very readable thriller. Even though you can sort of tell from the beginning where it’s going to go, that doesn’t diminish at all the fun of getting there. The ending, by the way, is almost a mirror image of the ending of Jennifer Donnelly’s The Winter Rose. Makes you wonder if Brown read Donnelly’s book. Or if both writers just knew it was a wonderful scene with which to end a story.Discussion: The author, on her website, says she had to do research on cell phone technology for this book, but hmmmm, wonder where the info on the hot sex scenes came from?Evaluation: I have never read this author before, but I liked this quite a bit. I will definitely seek out more of her books.
