About this audiobook

1964. The Vietnam War has begun to escalate, its new style of battle demanding new weapons and tactics and men who can use them.

Overnight, it seems, the U. S. Army must scramble to create its first-ever Air Assault Division, a force critical to its chances of success, but the obstacles facing it are staggering-untrained men, mysteriously failing aircraft, vicious inter-service rivalries.

As the hostilities increase, the warriors and the women who love them are swept into the struggle, their personal and professional lives twisting and intertwining as they race against time-and the fortunes of war…

#8 of 9, The Aviators is about development of Army aviation. There's also some ops from 1964...hmmmm. On to #7--intertwined with #8.

This book hits to close to home. In 1968 I transitioned into the CH47 at Ft Rucker. I flew it for a year in C Company 228th Avn Bn. In 1969 I went through the Maintenance test pilot course. Back to Vietnam and into the arms of the 1st Cav again and flew the operational area for 6 month. On December 21, 1970 I was test flying a CH47-B after the 1800 hour inspection. The civilian contractor failed to tighten a nut on the aft pivoting actuator. The nut came off as I was picking the aircraft off the ground. All my crew survived with injuries after we crashed upside down.
