    Thomas Hardy was born in Dorset in 1840, the eldest of four children. At the age of sixteen he became an apprentice architect. With remarkable self discipline he developed his classical education by studying between the hours of four and eight in the morning. With encouragement from Horace Moule of Queens' College Cambridge, he began to write fiction. His first published novel was Desperate Remedies in 1871. Thus began a series of increasingly dark novels all set within the rural landscape of his native Dorset, called Wessex in the novels. Such was the success of his early novels, including A Pair of Blue Eyes (1873) and Far From the Madding Crowd (1874), that he gave up his work as an architect to concentrate on his writing. However he had difficulty in getting Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1889) published and was forced to make changes in order for it to be judged suitable for family readers. This coupled with the stormy reaction to the negative tone of Jude the Obscure (1894) prompted Hardy to abandon novel writing altogether. He concentrated mainly on poetry in his latter years. He died in January 1928 and was buried in Westminster Abbey; but his heart, in a separate casket, was buried in Stinsford, Dorset.

      Rhoda is milker woman.She and Lodge were loved but they parted.Rhoda knew Lodge will marry.It is obscure story for me.I feel a little afraid.I think that people have envy and cruelty.

      This book is a collection of original stories relating to Part three any crime."Bruises on the arm,"is revolve around the story.Each of the three titles is Sister Love,Joey's Luck,and Hush Money.The genre of this book is Short Stories.This book appeared less number of the characteres,and the story is solid,so meaningful I thought.And more simple words,I enjoyed reading in the fun.

      Rhoda has children, but she did not get married.Husband had change mind and fall in love at Gerturude.One day that two women saw a same dream.That dream is very impossible.After I read this story, I think this story is too difficult to understand.Because, the reason is not writing" why the left hand of Gertrudes got worse ?why it begin to become thin?"I want to know more detail.

      Ｉ think the story is little scary and mysterious The main characters in this story are two woman. Ｉthought younger woman,Gertrude might be bad person, but it was wrong. Rhoda is one of the main characters. She was scary for me and this story is difficult to understand. I could not know why rhoda saw mysterious dream and Gertrude ended up dying….

This story is negative story.So I can not enjoy the story.But story is simple,so I read this book rapidly.It is easy for me to understand.

      Main character is Rhoda. A man who she likes got married with the new young woman, Gertrude. Gertrude is prettier and younger than Rhoda. So Rhoda doesn't like her. One night, a strange thing happened....I think this story is a love story. I don't like this story, because I cannot understand what happened. But if you like strenge and love stories, you will enjoy reading this story.

But I have not seen very scarey dream. It is probably happy!

      Rhoda is a poor farm worker.And Gertrude is a pretty woman.Rhoda hates Gertrude because of Mr Lodge.He is a rich man and now loves Gertrude.One day,Rhoda has a bad dream.After,a strange thing happens to Gertrude. This book is horrible for me.I think that Gertrude is poor.She did'nt do bad things.But Rhoda hate her and make a strange mark on her arm.I think that the worst person is Mr Lorge.

      Mr Lorge is a farmer. He has a big farm. He married with Gertrude. She is a very pretty. She is the second woman of him because he leaves the first woman, Rhoda. So Rhoda hates Gertrude. One day Gertrude's left arm becames withered.This story was interesting. But the end is not so interesting. I wanted know details why Gertrude's left arm became withered. I don't like Mr Lorge because he chooses marriage partner by the face.

      Rhoda Brook is a milkmaid and lives in a poor house with her son. Her son's father is Farmer Lodge. But he leaves Rhoda and finds a younger woman as a new wife. Rhoda feels jearous. One night, Rhoda dreame of Farmer Lodge's new wife... This story was very horrible. I thought that what is most dangerous is the wicked minds of people.

      In Rohda's dream, Mrs Lodge was very cold and cruel.Mrs Lodge was going to cause Rohda,so Rohda took her arm.But actually, Mrs Lodge was kind and innocent.And there were a mark on her arm...I finished this book but something I couldn't understand was linger on.And this ending was nonsense.But it was easy to read.

      There are something strange,horrible in the world.We can not understand what happened,and its out of our control.It can be one of these example,and is called "withered arm"..Its story is very puzzled and horrible.I cannot help but sympathise with two poor women,Rohda and Getrude.

      One poor milkmaid and his son live in the hill.Theirs father has another a young pretty wife,Gertrude.The milkmaid and Gertrude became friend.But Gertrude's arm has withered...This story is interesting for me.The first type story.The end is sad,but I enjoyed reading.

      this is terrible story! the mother and a child lived in the small farmhouse. Her hasband--and also his father-- got out home, and married with more young woman. the woman had trouble. Her arm had a scratch. Doctor didn't find out the reason why get a scratch on her arm. In fact, it is because grudge of mother.I think people's grudge is bery terrible.And this story's last is bery sad. All charactor become unhappy.

      This is a story about the curse. The stage is a farm. Heroine's Rhoda meets a frightening woman on a certain evening. The woman was like the ghost. The bruise of the mystery was able to be done the arm of Mrs Lodge the next day. This story left a nasty taste in the mouth. Atmosphere is dark, and depressingly. And I thought the ghost to be scary for a moment.

      This is a story of a lovetriangle.Main characters are Mr.Lodge, Gertrude who is his new wife and Rhoda who is Mr.Lodge's fist love.One day Rhoda's ghost appered.Gertrude was very surprised and scared.You must think it is a story like "Haiin no kai",a part of Japanese historical story.But the end was･･･A part of this story is written in "Cover To Cover",our text book.I think you learn to want to read this book.
