      I should have liked this more. I totally appreciate that rain makes me gloomy and grumpy, and could affect a whole community, given some particular events. But I'm just not a fan of Shannon's style of art, (though this is less over-the-top than the David books), and (to me) the text seemed choppy and clunky.

      Rainy day gets people mad; sunshine makes them happy. Good pictures of urban life, but not to my taste.

      Wow. This book depicted how rushed people are each day and how inconsiderate they are when something goes wrong or even as rain pours down. This book made me realize I, too, need to sometimes slow down and just be patient.

      A town falls apart in the clouds of a rainstorm. Fighting breaks out and everything seems to go wrong. But the light of the sun comes out to dry the rain and brighten the moods of the townsfolk. They are able to work together to repair the damage and overcome their differences and grumpy moods from the storm. I wasn't a huge fan of this book. It could be funny to a lot of kids, but I didn't find the appeal. The lesson of working together was a weak one in my opinion since they only stopped fighting when things got better instead of working through the storm.

      This wasn't a favorite of mine. I felt like the writing was all over the place. If I were being read this book, even as an adult, my attention would have probably been elsewhere.

      This is an interesting little story of cause and effect, as the falling rain caused accidents and arguments in a town, but when the skies cleared, moods lifted and business returned to normal. I enjoyed the illustrations as well.

      Chaos ensued when the rain began pouring. Babies began crying, animals hollering, and traffic was a nightmare! People were bickering and horns were honking. It seemed as though they would never be happy. But then, the rain stopped… (2000, K-2)The rain came down by David Shannon can have multiple uses in the classroom. It could obviously be used as a story to read during a rainy day, but it also could be a starting point for a class discussion about moods and feelings and why certain events can have such an impact on the way we act. When the rain came down, everyone in the area became angry and rushed and irritable, but once the sun came out, they began to all get along. It sort of makes you think about how different the world would be if we all just put aside out differences and made our own sunny days.

      A wonderfull book about what happens in a town when it rains. All kinds of things go wrong when it rains. Everyone is angry and mean becuase it is raining. Then one day it stops. Everyone becomes happy. The illustrations in this book are great.

      This story is a pattern, repetition book that follows the causes and effects of rain pouring down in a little community. Thankfully, everyone stops being so grumpy and quick-to-anger as soon as the rain stops.Great to use in the classroom for cause and effect lessons. I used it in a David Shannon author study and the kids loved it!

      David Shannon's The Rain Came Down is full of wild and colourful illustrations which show the chaos which a rain storm brings to a little town. The characters are vivid and each is unique, with funny facial expressions, and the varied angles of the illustrations make this a great book for children to explore. The language is just right, with repetition and easy words which add to the building noise of the storm.
