About this audiobook

In this remarkable new novel, Belva Plain creates a brilliant portrayal of a man's descent from idealistic beginnings into a world of dishonesty and greed--and of the two women who love him. Robb MacDaniel, a schoolteacher with noble intentions, comes into a little money, enabling him to go to law school.  Upon graduation, he goes to work for a fine, honorable firm, and marries the daughter of the senior partner, leaving behind the hometown girl he had planned to wed. From then on his career brings enormous successes but then takes a shocking turn that changes his life, the life of his family, and reverberates into the next generation.

With the magic of a born storyteller, New York Times bestselling author Belva Plain unfolds the devastating tale of a man whose dreams come true. Fortune's Hand is a novel of temptation, betrayal, and greed--and of the redeeming power of love.

People on Amazon weren't crazy about this, but I thought it flew by. Farm-bred Robb planned to marry his childhood sweetheart and settle down to an idyllic country life with perfect kids... and what happened was pretty much the opposite.

I'm not usually a big Belva Plain fan, and this book reminded me why. The storyline is interesting but drags. But she has so many devoted readers -- I'm sure this book will be a hit with them.

Robb McDaniel led a charmed life; he was an idealistic young teacher engaged to his high school sweetheart. Then a sudden windfall, tragically earned, gave him the chance to go to law school and pursue a brilliant career. But nothing in his life could have prepared Robb for the price of a dream come true.A job at a prominent law firm, marriage to the boss' daughter, a lovely family, a splendid home. Then came the offers that Robb couldn't refuse. His great success could lead to his greatest shame. I really enjoyed this Belva Plain book and give it an A+!
