      I think the impression these stories leave depends on the theme. I like those with more detailed American history. Like this one.

      Even though Allison Leigh was very annoying for almost one third of the book, I liked this story a lot. The setting is Philadelphia and Landon Mansion, a place where a young woman was killed in 1777.

      Allison is a historian and she works as one of the tour guides at the mansion. She is the last one to leave and she finds her colleague dead in the room that belonged to British Lord "Beast" Bedford.

      Adam Harrison makes an appearance here. He only appeared in the first book so far. Since one of the board members is his friend, Tyler was sent to check what is going on. One of the reasons Allison was really annoying was because she was more than rude to Tyler while he stayed polite. She changed later and the story was quite enjoyable. The parts with history combined with the Lucy's story were done really well.

      Even the ghosts are more interesting. One of them even had a sense of humour.

      "No, I was walking along feeling sorry for myself, trying to sidle up next to people I passed on the street. I think I gave a few of them chills," he said, chortling to himself.

      As usual, the story is more suspense/mystery focused than romance focused, even though the romance is better than in some of the previous books. Or a former Texas Ranger is enough to make it better.

      Book 8 in the Krewe of Hunters series. This story takes place in Philadelphia where the 2nd team of the Krewe of Hunters is called in because of a death at the Tarleton-Dandridge House. Docent Allison Leigh discovers a body after she closes the house for the day. Tyler Montague from the Krewe is sent to investigate to see if there is something unusual going on in the house or was this death an accident or a suicide. Lots of interesting history on the Revolutionary War and of course the twists and turns of a good mystery. This is a good series and I like this story very much. I wanted to keep reading.

      "The Uninvited" by Tim Wynne-Jones was a fast paced mystery/thriller that begged you to keep reading on. The unique circumstances of the main characters helped build some interesting and exciting drama to the plot as the story unfolded. Realistic characters and modern setting in the book serve as an excellent hook for those middle years and high school readers who like a fast paced, edge of your seat book that keeps your attention from cover to cover.

      The Uninvited by Tim Wynne-Jones is a most excellent read. It is well written with full characters and rich dialogue.Two people looking for peace and solitude find each other at a house on the snye (look it up, I had too!), but there is something else, someone else about. Or is there?The Uninvited will grab you by the back of your mind and leave you with goosebumps of unconscious dread. All the while teaching, revealing how people, even family interact and react to one another and their environment.

      Creepy story about Mimi, a college student, who goes to Canada for the summer to live in a small house her father owned. However, she found someone else already living there -- who turns out to be a step brother she didn't know she had. Furthermore, her brother is already creeped out because strange things had been appearing inside the house without his knowing who was putting them there. Mimi is both tough and stupid about putting herself in danger. I had a number of issues with the absurdity of their interactions with one another and some of the situations they got into, but I think readers who like suspense will be happy with the book.

      I knew I had to read this book (not entirely in a good way) when I read a review that opened with "College freshman Mimi Shapiro plans a solitary vacation at her family's cottage in a remote part of Canada after she has an ill-fated affair with an NYU professor." So that is in fact the opening, Mimi arrives at the cottage and discovers all sorts of mysterious things, such as the fact that someone else, a handsome music student on his way to graduate school, is already living there. The cottage, by the way, is located on a snye, a new vocabulary word for me. It's a Canadian word for a little branch of a river that eventually rejoins the main river, creating an island. As much as Mimi instantly loves the little house on the snye, it's also desolate and sinister and a locus for weird happenings. The whole story has a very Lois Duncan/Richard Peck vibe to me ... it's a mystery, and suspenseful (genuinely a page-turner), but in order for the story to work, you need to believe that every single human being in the nation of Canada is completely capable of being a menacing stalker with a secret past. You can't help but start wondering what are the odds of so many creepy people all converging the same time.And while it doesn't impact the story, I was very surprised to see that the author, a resident of Ontario, apparently doesn't know where the Peace Bridge is.Grade: It's around a B for general suspense, but down to a C if you take more than a moment to start thinking about how the plot works.Recommended: It's pulpy, almost entirely plot driven, and has that feeling of everything happening on the surface. Young teens who like suspense stories will probably tear right through this with gusto; adults might be a little skeeved out by the disturbing circumstances the characters are thrust into.

      A rather different twist on girl goes to rural cottage and meets handsome young men and is threatened by stalker etc. You can market this to teens and adults. The young people in the story are all in college or college age. It's a fun, easy read and the setting is in Canada.

      Following an affair with her college professor, Mimi decides to escape to an isolated property her father owns. When she arrives, she discovers the house is already in use by a recent college graduate. The two are thinking about how attractive the other is when something shocking is revealed—Mimi is at her father’s home, but Jay is at his father’s home as well. It seems their father forgot to mention he had a son in Canada before moving to New York and meeting Mimi’s mother. But this isn’t the end of the revelations for the summer. Before Mimi arrived, someone was harassing Jay at the house by leaving various things like a snakeskin. Now that Mimi is there, the break-ins have escalated. There are two highly suspect neighbors, but the cops seem unwilling to investigate the theft and harassment. As Mimi and Jay discover, they have a deep connection to the person behind the objects mysteriously left at the house.The prologue left me wondering a bit, but once I got to the part where Mimi and Jay realize they are half-siblings I knew I had to keep reading. Most of the mysteries are revealed to the reader long before Mimi and Jay find out, but I was still compelled to find out how they would discover the truth about Cramer and what their reaction would be. The family relations were very well done and the suspense builds nicely.

      I, too, didn't realize it was a YA book until I got thoroughly disgusted with it and looked up some information about it. I guess teens might like it, but it was totally boring for me. At least it was a fast read!

      I liked this novel primarily because it had an interesting mix of suspense & family drama, two things that don't necessarily go hand-in-hand, or at least not in the way they did in this book. But I think it worked, for the most part. I was a little annoyed by the characterization of Mimi -- trying to be Miss Tough Girl, but perhaps that fit in with the age group Wynne-Jones was trying to target. I thought the plot was great for either adults or young adults, although the writing was probably more on par for the young adult audience. But overall a good read!

      A nice read. It took a long time to get really interesting. About three quarters through the book it gets to be a real page turner. I would recommend to voracious readers. Teens may like it too.

      The Uninvited is an intriguing young adult novel filled with suspense and interesting characters. The plot is relatively complex and pulls readers into its mysteries. These mysteries quickly unfold when Mimi Shapiro, a college student from New York City, accepts her father’s offer to stay in a cottage he owns in the remote Canadian countryside. Mimi believes that getting away from the city and spending some time alone will enable her to sort out her problems and find direction for her life. But there are several surprises awaiting Mimi, surprises that begin the moment she arrives at the cottage.The Uninvited is a well-written, satisfying page-turner. Why not give it a read.

      Labeled a young adult book, the uninvited holds its own for an adult audience as well-- as long as the adult reader keeps that in mind during the interactions of the characters. There were definite moments while reading it that I was aware this was targeting a younger group--their conversations and thought-processes not very deep even though the characters believed they were--but overall, I felt the plot was quite interesting and well written. The beginning was a bit slow going, but Mr. Wynne-Jones found his voice about midway and really brought it home. The younger reader will definitely be able to relate to the characters as they try to find themselves and their purpose in life and how they fit into the world around them; and I looked at these characters as a mother would, a bit exasperated with their lack of maturity. I recommend this to its targeted audience. I especially think the YA crowd will enjoy this suspenseful thriller and it will keep them guessing till the end.

      About twenty-two years after the soon to be famous artist Marc Soto spent a short year or so in the cottage country north of Ottawa, he sends his New York born and bred daughter to the same town to escape her youthful escapades (in the form of an affair with a prof) at NYU. Her father, however, left more in Canada than access to a small cottage and the images that led to his artistic fame. The secrets and lies Marc left behind were beginning to unravel before his daughter showed up unexpectedly, and to some, uninvited. Her appearance, however, accelerates the uncovering of her father past and all those it continues to affect. I can reveal little more about the plot without being accused of introducing spoilers, and the Uninvited is full of the uncovering of secrets, some expected, some not.The Uninvited is a Young Adult, thriller - admittedly I read very little in either of these categories - but no the less enjoyed the book immensely. While, I admit as an ex pat Canadian, there was a sub theme of NYC girl observing small town Canada, that held a personal appeal (like the canoeing references) the book as whole is very well written for any genre, the characters well developed, and the plot intriguing. The author uses a technique in which critical secrets are revealed to the reader prior to the same knowledge being available to the characters, leaving the thrill as the mechanism of unveiling rather than the secret itself. Being somewhat unfamiliar with this type of hook, I found that it added to engagement you had with both the plot and the characters. Very enjoyable.

      Mimi Shappiro has had anything but a good year. An affair with an older professor (now turned stalker) in her freshman year has her wanting time to herself to “re-evaluate” (and hide). Her long estranged father offers her the use of his cabin in a remote part of the Canadian wilderness. Mimi jumps at the chance to get away only to discover, upon her arrival, that the cabin is already occupied. Not only that but also she and the occupant have a “familial connection”. Strange circumstances are complicated by strange goings-on. What is it about the cabin that is causing all the turmoil?

      This book drew me in quite quickly as I am a sucker for strange happenings in remote locations. Then it became a little disjointed for my taste, but did come together again in a satisfactory ending. It was an okay read.

      This story surrounds the Tarleton-Dandridge House in Philadelphia where in 1777 Patriot Lucy Tarleton was killed by her British lover, Lord Bedford. At least that's what history tells us. In present day Allison Leigh a docent of the house is about to encounter death, murder, ghosts and one seriously hunky Agent Tyler Montague.The Uninvited was an excellent read. I loved the background and history. Allison & Tyler are quite an interesting pair. The romance was slow going, but definitely worth the wait. Between the house, past and present death all made a great mystery. I thought for sure I knew who did it, but I was so shocked at the reveal. I was way off. Ms Graham is a grand storyteller.

      I read the first book in this series and then for whatever reason never got to any of the others until I saw this one. Overall a fun book filled with well-rounded characters, ghosts, murders, history and some romance that will keep you reading until the end. Also, it is not necessary to have read the previous books. One of those guilty pleasure series ;)

      In Graham’s paranormal mystery novel, docent Allison Leigh makes her rounds following the final tour of the day of Landon Mansion locking up as she goes along only to stumble upon the body of a colleague slumped over, impaled on a bayonet. Allison, a historian by trade, doesn’t believe in ghosts and is stunned to learn that “ghost-hunters” will be investigating what appears to be a murder.Agent Tyler Montague is knowledgeable of both history and hauntings. While Alison is skeptical and uncertain of the investigation methods, another murder occurs. Are there ghosts haunting Landon Mansion? Or is there another malevolent force hard at work? While Alison fights an attraction to Tyler, they team together to find the answers before they become nothing more than history themselves.As always, Heather Graham can weave a yarn that keeps readers hanging on for a more. A fabulous addition to the Krewe of Hunters series.

I really loved the mixture of a historical case with a current case. I didn't even get close to guessing who was involved in the murders happening in modern times. The Uninvited takes place in the historic Tarleton house in Philadelphia. I couldn't find that this was an actual house but the amount of detail made the house real to me. That is one of my favorite things about Heather Graham's writing, she just draws me a perfect picture of the places involved in her stories. The case was well paced, thrilling, and had an explosive ending.What I thought of the Characters. The Uninvited was about Agent Tyler Montague and Allison Leigh. I love Tyler, he is one of my favorite Krewe members but I had a problem with Allison till about the 2/3rds spot. I love that she was a historian and very serious about it. However, she was a little to judgmental (of the Krewe), mean (to Tyler), and snippy (to just about everyone) for me. I wanted to like her but it took a very long time! The last 1/3 of the The Uninvited was a fantastic reversal in fortune where Allison was concerned. It was when she really began to grow on me! Did not take long after that before I really wanted Tyler and Allison to be together. The romance ended on a very strong note.What I thought of the Audio: Narrated by the brilliant Luke Daniels at a running time of 8 hrs and 54 mins this was another great entry to the series. While I had a bit of a problem with a few of the voices, Luke is still probably the single most dependable narrator I can think of in the audiobook world.Final Thought: The Uninvited is that last in this set of Krewe of Hunter books. I really hope there ends up being more.

      Review: Uninvited by Heather Graham 5 STARS I know on Heather's krewe books my ratings as been up and down a lot it seems. This one has been more believeable if you believe in the possibilty of ghosts. Univited as a lot of history that I enjoyed and have not thought about in years. Makes me want to go and visit historcal sites. See Valley Forge, to go on the Ghost Tours visit the historical buildings of Philadelphia. Thier were some love scenes that I skipped over. Most of the story Univited takes place in and around the Tarleton-Dandridge house. (I tried to look up and see if it was real. Could not but the names appear around that time and place.) In the Tarleton-Dandridge house is open to the public and gives tours. The tour guides dress in period costumes and weapons are real but no gunpowder. Julian Mitchell was a guide but snuck away after lunch to play with his band for chance at a paying job. He snuck back into the house during the last 2 tours. He planned to beg Alliso forgiveness after the house was closed. Allison loves the house she has lived her whole life in that neighborhood. She is also a professor at the University and writes papers about the house and time. After She is alone in the house ready to lock up she finds Julian his jaw was stabbed on his bayonett. Thier was blood all over the area. The police question her for hours and then the FBI Krewe agent was sent to find out if thier was a problem or if weird suciede. Tyler Montague used to be a Texas Ranger and now works for FBI in special unit they call Texas Krewe. They all can see ghosts sometimes. Tyler is lead on this case. Tyler takes her back to the house and has her show him around even though its late. They find that the attic where Julian had his until the tours was over ransacked. So police came back to search the room. Tyler decides after looking over all the deaths at the Tarleton-Dandridge house in the last 10 years needs to be looked at more. So he calls in the full Texas Krewe agents. Allison the next day sees the ghost of Julian and he asks her to help him. She faints. Everywhere she seems to go Julian shows up. She goes to counceling and that doesn't help. She even gets drunk. Allison does not want to be alone so she sticks close to Tyler. Tyler figures out she sees a ghost even if Allison does not believe in ghosts. Finally Tyler can see Julian and then his Krewe comes and they can all see him. The Texas Krewe and Allison stay in the historcal house to figure out who killed Julian and the others in 10 years. Who put a tourist in the hospital with a coma who's family was at the house and their boys asked a lot of questions about the ghosts. Thier is another death that happens. The Texas Krewe sets up camaras too see what is happening in the house. Their ME looks at the dead bodies to get clues. Julian ghost tells them that he did not kill himself. Allison tells a lot about the history around the house,town and new country trying to form. The History is told in ways that make it alive and got me thinking about a little different way. The story line makes sense if you just imagine that the ghosts can see, talk and appear to people. I had a good time reading this novel. I plan to read more from Heather in the future. I want to go back sometime and read her novels of the first Krewes Unit. This makes the fourth novel that I have read with the Texas Krewes but hopefully not the last one.
