About this audiobook

As a Grave Witch, Alex solves murders by raising the dead. While she's always been on friendly terms with Death himself, lately things have become a lot more personal. But the personal takes a backseat to the professional when a string of suicides occurs in Nekros City. The shades have no memory of the days leading up to their brutal endings, so despite the very apparent suicides, this is murder. And searching for the answers might mean Alex won't have a life to remember at all . . .

This is the 3rd in the series and it is still going strong and was just a fantastic book. The main character Alex is still awesome and doing her thing. The cliffhanger was amazing and it just makes me sad that I have to wait til 2015 to read what happens next. It's gonna be a long wait.

Alex arrives at the scene of a suicide where the ghost doesn’t remember the last few days of his life. It turns out there has been a string of weird suicides in town and the ghosts don’t remember their last days. Alex is also helping friends keep secrets from the rest of her friends about changes in their lives. On top of all that she has to get used to the idea that she is part of Fairy and needs to pick a court. The book was ok but I wasn’t left with a burning need to read the next one in the series.

I enjoyed this third adventure in the life of Alex Craft, grave witch. Alex is currently without a boyfriend with Death pulling a disappearing act and Falin being under the Winter Queen's command to avoid her. But lack of boyfriend doesn't mean lack of adventure.Alex is busy trying to get her new business off the ground. She has found a very seedy location for her office and stumbled onto her first case when she comes upon a suicide where the ghost tells her he didn't commit suicide. Unfortunately, everything looks like suicide. It isn't until similar cases start piling up that Alex begins to find out what is going on. A being from another plane is taking over humans, sucking the life out of them, and turning them into ghouls. Besides trying to track down a being no one else can see and no one knows how to stop, Alex is hiding her fae heritage from most of her friends and also learning about her new powers as a planeweaver. Her ability to see into the various planes is useful for her new case but is still very damaging to her vision. One thing I really like about this series is that the extra-ordinary powers that Alex possesses all come with costs. Both her relationships with Falin and Death have their costs. The second book in this series shows the bad effects when a soul collector and a witch get together. It lets Alex know that her relationship with Death is doomed. But Death was her friend since she was five years old, long before they had any romantic feelings for each other. Alex misses her friend. And, since Falin is oathbound to serve the Winter Queen, Alex can't trust anything about her relationship with him. He must put the Winter Queen first and Alex doesn't want to have anything to do with the Winter Queen. This was another exciting episode in the life of Alex Craft. I can't wait to read more.

I love this series very much and miss it! I think Alex Craft is a great character. I love to follow Alex on all of her adventures. I like that she has a relationship with Death himself. I think it very cool to read about necromancy. I hope there are more books to come from this series.

There's a whole lot going on in this book to Alex, maybe more than 'normal'. A lot of action, and a creepy story line about a 'rider' that jumps from body to body, using them up and then killing them off to jump into the next available body. I truly enjoy just about every character in this world, and they keep me reading when the story itself gets a little to heavy for my taste. Alex gets the crap beat out of her, not only physically but much more emotionally this time. And I really really want to know the deal with her father - I have a suspicion I know who he is, but I want an explanation for the awful indifference he shows towards Alex. The love triangle between her, Death and Falin not only gets more complicated, but just when I thought it was sorted out, the ending throws everything for a loop. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Well it's been a long time coming. We finally spend actual time with the joke that was the romantic interest, Death. Two entire books of this character basically being a non-entity made for one of the worst love triangles I've read in recent memory and good christ am I glad that's over. Having had our mandatory "it's this guy's turn to be her one true love" we've finally actually gotten to know Death a little bit.I remain unconvinced by Death though I realise this is a failure on the author's part. It's a trope of the genre for people to be some completely madly in love with little to no warning but given how badly the character has been handled over the series until now I just can't get behind him suddenly having depth and replacing Falin. Obviously it's a contrivance on the author's part that just as Falin gets yanked away Death is suddenly there but it just doesn't sit right with me that this ghost of a character is suddenly winning the love triangle because the author said so.

Love this series, and this one is great. Really full of twists and turns, and just enough sizzle to make a reader happy. This one leaves us on a cliffhanger though, which was incredibly annoying, considering what it is.

Another brilliant entry into the Alex Craft series. As a rule, I don't like love triangles, I DO enjoy this one, but I'm not going to lie, at this point I want her to PICK one and STAY with him. ( I have a clear favorite in mind of course) Lots of interesting twists and turns, Alex is a strong heroine as always, but I absolutely adore her vulnerabilities, they're written so well. Even though she has all this magic, she still seems like a regular person, someone you can relate to . Just for GS please pick a man already!

I'm not sure what I think about this series. I enjoy it, then it pisses me off. I've read MANY books with love triangles (that seems to be the thing to do these days) and I can deal with most of them. I'm not sure why this particular love triangle drives me as crazy as it does. I guess it is because there is no triangle in my mind. I'm not a Falin fan of any kind. I want Alex and Death to find a way to be together. That being said, this ending really upset me (you'll understand when you read it).

Now the story is great. You get to see more into Death's life (is that what you call his existence?). We see more into the other soul collectors, though not as much as Death's. We also get to see more of how Falin works (whether it is his choice or not). I just don't like him.

Really more like a 3 1/2 star book for me. I am always torn about these books, I like them, I mostly want to keep reading them but I don't love them. I am not entirely sure I like Alex but I do like both the male leads and some of the secondary characters. I'm starting to get a little tired of the love triangle as well.

It took me longer to read this than it normally would because I voluntarily didn't read it for a few days which is pretty unusual for me. Once I start a book I love I will take any spare moment to fit in reading it...this one I was pretty ambivalent about the "reading, reading, reading" thing. It was more like "oh yeah, I'm still reading that".

Honestly, I can't say exactly why this book and series, doesn't work for me more than they do. It has most of the elements of books I love and yet I just don't love them. I do really like her other Kita series a lot and I think it's mainly that I like Kita more than I like Alex but there's not a specific reason why that is true.

This is the third book in the Alex Craft series. The fourth book in this series, Grave Memory, is due to release in fall of 2013. This series just keeps getting better. I love how elements of faerie and death magic are entertwined in Alex’s character and enjoy watching her struggle to maintain her grip on the different planes of reality.I listened to this on audiobook and the audiobook was very well done. I really love this series on audiobook. The character voices are well done and the emotions are conveyed well. Definitely a series I recommend listening to on audiobook. While Alex is out for coffee with one of her girlfriends a man jumps off a buliding and kills himself, but his ghost is convinced that it wasn’t a suicide. Alex and Rhiannan now have an office for their company Tongues for the Dead, guess who their first customer is...the pregnant widow of the man who jumped off of the building. As Alex starts to investigate the death more closely she finds disturbing patterns, this might not have been a suicide at all but a serial killer.Of course added to the above investigation Alex is trying to deal with the fact that Holly can only eat faerie food. She also has her own problems with faerie, Alex has to choose a court soon or declare herself independent. Additionally Falin is still in thrall to the Winter Queen and Death is still... well Death...so her love life sucks too. This was a wonderful book. It has a lot of complex entertwiing elements that are interesting and engaging. Any one of these things would make a good story on its own, but all woven together it makes for a fascinating read.I love how each book has a major investigation that needs to be solved, but also continues with the broader story about Alex discovering her Fae nature.Alex is a great character, she is funny and kind of takes everything in stride. She is resourceful and maybe a bit too impulsive at times, but that makes her even more fun to read about.I am usually not a fan of love triangles but I have to make an exception for Falin and Death. These are two great mysterious, tortured, and witty male leads. Falin loves Alex and wants to be loyal to her but is sworn to service of the Winter Queen. No matter what, Alex can’t trust him until his oaths to the Winter Queen are broken. Sadly he actually isn’t in the story a ton, and when he is it’s nothing but emotional turmoil for him and Alex.Death is absolutely wonderful. We finally learn a lot more about the mystery behind his character. If I had to pick someone for Alex it would be Death, he loves her so much, he is so funny, and he knows her so well. I loved, loved, loved the scenes between him and Alex. I love his character and hope he features in future books as well!Mostly my heart just hurts for Alex...she deserves to have someone, she is just so lonely in this book. The book wraps up with a delightful teaser. Overall a wonderful read. The plot is complex and interesting, I am completely engaged with the characters, and love this world. I can’t wait to see what happens next. This series is highly recommended to urban fantasy fans; it’s one of the better urban fantasy series out there!

Weak four stars, but I'll keep reading the series so I'm rounding up instead of down. This is one of those series I'm only casually invested in; I'd forgotten the rules of the world, the characters, the main conflicts that Alex has to deal with until I cracked open GRAVE MEMORY and reminded myself. So I won't get mad at the early parts of the book for being slow, though they kind of were. The plotting becomes quite strong by the end, with all kinds of ticking time bombs and imaginative teamwork and creepy creatures to defeat.

I was kind of annoyed by Alex throughout this installment of the series; was she always sort of self-loathing and weak, or is that new?

Example: Alex spends a lot of time in this book mooning about Falin and Death, her two love interests. She mopes a lot because Death is avoiding her. I'll cut her some slack on this one; they've been friends for decades, and Death has only been avoiding her for a month. But Falin? He still works for the Winter Queen and, on her orders, is harassing Alex. He's leading weekly raids on her house, ransacking not only her belongings but all her housemates', raiding her housemate Caleb's place of business, and he's not even slightly apologetic about it. Yet Alex gets all sentimental when he shows up at her house & wants to exchange longing glances over the ruins of her belongings. This is dumb. I hated Falin and Alex's behavior made me like her less.

The raids naturally stress Alex's relationships with her housemates. They're fed up, and I understand why - weekly raids! - though Alex for some reason expects them to suffer along with her. That's a lot to ask, right? I didn't understand why she wasn't actively trying to move out, for their sakes, but she never even considers the idea.

Meanwhile, her friends are pushing her to choose her alliance in Fairy by attaching herself to a court or declaring herself an independent. It seems clear that they're acting out of self-interest (choosing = no more raids) rather than for Alex's benefit, which didn't make me like them any better, since they're not helping her to make a good choice. Caleb, for example, bullies Alex into attending a big Fairy party, ignores all of her perfectly legitimate concerns about things that could go wrong, and then abandons her as soon as they arrive. Of course, Alex's fears were justified and she goes toe-to-toe with the Winter Queen all alone.

So all the friendships are messed up. And while the plot is pretty gripping, it's all centered around Alex's burgeoning business - Tongues of the Dead - which, considering this fairy drama, struck me as a bit of a distraction. Alex does have an urgent decision to make about her place in Fairy, but she doesn't do anything to educate herself about the various courts. She doesn't talk to people from unfamiliar factions, consider her options or try to negotiate. She's got this little fiefdom in Fairy that she never visits or even thinks about, does nothing to manage or care for.

I wanted Alex to be more pro-active, less re-active. I wanted her to talk back when people tried to blame her for things that weren't her fault. I wanted her to tell them off when they insulted her abilities. And every time she didn't, I lost a little bit of respect for her.

So, yes, weak four stars because I'll still keep reading, even though I was frustrated with Alex for much of the book.

This hit one of my pet peeves. While yes, it raises the stakes, having characters act stupid simply for plot reasons, when they're otherwise very intelligent just frustrates me. And I really dislike the trend lately of authors having just that one more surprise at the very end that does nothing but lead into the next book. While I'm glad there's more on the way, I would have enjoyed the book far more without that one last bit at the end.

It's been a year since I read the first two books, but even still, with some of the plot a bit hazy to me, this book was amazing. Yet another amazing book added to one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors. AND THE ENDING! oh gosh the ending. I do hope there will be a book 4. This book has kept me on the edge of my chair reading till the last word.
An amazing book by an amazing author. 5 stars! All the stars!

Grave Memory continues everything I loved about the first two Alex Craft books - action, romance, magic, and intriguing characters. In this installment, Alex’s life becomes even more intertwined with the world of Faerie as well as the mysterious soul collectors. Death plays a much larger role as Alex uncovers some of his secrets, and their interactions become considerably steamier. But of course, Alex’s other love interest Falin is still in the picture, and there are still monumental obstacles preventing Alex from having a relationship with either one of these men. Reading this book, I was struck for the first time by the tragicness of the situation. It also struck me that Alex seems to be growing up - opening her own business, learning to be there for her friends, and accepting the very heavy consequences of her (and Death’s) actions. At one point, Alex is completely alone, feeling abandoned and betrayed, and instead of wallowing in self-pity, she sucks it up and does what she needs to do; that’s what I love about her. In addition, the secondary characters are each going through their own changes and struggles, making them much more interesting and realistic. I particularly enjoyed the scene with Alex’s father. I can’t wait to find out what kind of game he’s playing!Overall, Grave Memory is an entertaining story that lives up the standard set by the first two books. It also sets up new worlds to explore (the other Faerie courts and the soul collectors’ plane of existence), new fae abilties for Alex to figure out, and new romantic complications. I’m looking forward to seeing where Alex’s tale goes from here.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyUrban fantasy series are becoming more and more diverse in terms of the paranormal elements that make up their worlds. It’s not enough to just have vampires or werewolves, readers want it all. And that’s exactly what Kalayna Price delivers in her increasingly gripping Alex Craft series.Witches, fae, ghosts, and grim reapers are just a few of the supernatural creatures that populate Alex Craft’s Nekros City, a magical meets mundane world where humans can buy charms for just about anything, the dead can be raised to testify against their murderers, and the fae have their own branch of the FBI. It’s an endlessly entertaining world that serves as a perfect setting for the story in GRAVE MEMORY.Alex and her fellow Grave Witch friend (witches with the ability See and communicate with the dead) have recently opened Tongues For The Dead, a magical PI firm. Their first case proves to be more than either of them expected. As the body count rises, and Alex discovers much more than she was ever supposed to, her debt to Death may have to be paid. Death, as in the Grim Reaper, has always been my favorite character in this series. The flirtation he and Alex have always shared hints at so much more, and I loved getting to learn more about him and see him finally decide to risk it all for Alex.Alex Craft is quickly becoming one of the heavy hitting protagonists in urban fantasy. GRAVE MEMORY makes more than a few bold choices that will have lasting implications on Alex and those she cares about (especially the ending! What an evil–but sooo good–way to end a book). The good news is that Kalayna has signed on with Roc for at least three more Alex Craft novels. Can’t wait.Sexual Content:Kissing. One sex scene

The Winter Queen really knows how to throw a wrench in situations. She sucks and I cant wait to see Alex take her down (Please tell me that day is coming). I love that Alex has decided to open up her PI firm, I enjoy reading about all the trouble she gets herself in as she investigates. I enjoy reading about all of Alex's friends and how they are pulled in to the story, and the support they provide when needed. Death actually play's a big role in GRAVE MEMORY and we get some info about him and the other reapers. I'm excited to find out more. There are a lot of characters throughout the story but one that sticks out the most was Briar. She is definitely going to be in future books and I don't think she will be on Alex's side in the future. The love triangle is getting a bit tedious. One second She is with Death and things are going great and the next she's with Falin. One Second she's with Falin and things are going good, the next she is with Death. The whole thing is why I took off half a star. It gets frustrating and kinda silly the way her situation keeps swapping. (I'm secretly Team Death though so I'm rooting for him).I have a feeling Faerie will play a really big role in book 4 and I'm not entirely sure if that is a good thing or not but I will continue to follow the series. Any fan of the first two books will be happy with book 3.
