      Great read! Nice & steamy, bits of drama, hot as hell main man, and a touch of fantasy. Very dangerously close to perfection for this type of book (genre I mean). I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to heat up their nights ?

      Definitely a typical love story. I liked that the man was very patient with his lady at first. I did not like the way she was treated when he thought she was with another. It added nothing to the story. I do like how the plot turned a few times in the last few chapters.

      This was extremely corny and just seemed to try way too hard to have these sex scenes that weren’t. I get wanting suspense and build up but come on! I thought it would get good and I was just left waiting and waiting.

      I did enjoy the reader’s voice. But that’s about it.

      I love the book. I’ve read it many many times over the past couple of decades. I decided to try listening to audiobooks recently. While I like the option to be able to do other things while listening to a good book, I don’t think that this narrator does a very nice job either the accents nor trying to put on a female persona. He makes the females sound weak or silly. Other than that, I like hearing the book. Would be great if they could redo this with a different narrator.

      Wonderful story, but I did not like the leading lady in the story. She was unyielding and unforgiving towards the leading man. I believe that the author dragged her "hurt" to the point where one almost want to gag.

      Lately Adrienne get's the feeling she’s being watched, even when she’s in her own home! But everything seems so calm and quiet, is she imagining things? It wouldn’t be Eberhard spirit that has come to haunt her, would it? It turns out to be something worse. The Fool and the King of the fairies are looking for a woman for Hawk, the playboy. He invoked their wrath by sleeping with the queen of the fairies. They want revenge and plan to do so by marrying him to a woman who loathes men, who’ll be able to tell him something he’s never heard before: NO!

      At the same time is Hawk not feeling very good as well and he’s drinking his sorrows away. He has to get married within two weeks with Mad Janet. It’s an order of the king, so he can’t refuse the marriage. What’s worse is that there are rumors about how ugly she is and apparently she is as mad as a hatter…

      Adrienne’s taken from her home and lands in the year 1513, where she’ll have to marry a man she doesn’t even know! And he doesn’t even bother to show up for their wedding but sent a substitute! Just you wait! She really has enough from handsome men! He won’t get her! Although, on second thought, the smith looks rather nice…

      Hawk sees his wife for the first time when she’s very obviously admiring the smith and he immediately burns with jealousy. That’s his woman! She may only look at him! The only name that will cross her lips is his! Adrienne, however wants nothing to do with him, she’ll never trust a handsome man again! They don’t know the game the fairies play to learn the Hawk a lesson.. Will everything be alright? Will Adrienne be able to go back home?

      It must not be easy to be dragged in the 16th century so suddenly as Adrienne befalls. Especially not after everything she’s been through in her own time! I would probably burst into tears if something like that happened to me, or get very hysterical. But not Adrienne! She undergoes everything courageously, even when she’s about to be married to someone who doesn’t even show up for his own wedding!

      I really felt sorry for her at that moment, first being forcibly wed to some stranger, who isn’t even the real groom but a proxy! But it was great to read the way Adrienne copes with it. You go girl! It was even better when she stood her ground to the Hawk, who’s suddenly very interested in her. Okay there were weak moments, but if the most handsome man you’ve ever seen is standing in front of you, I can’t expect a different outcome

      I didn’t pity Hawk, everything that happened was his own fault. He had to work hard to get the attention of his wife back *snicker, snicker* before she forgave him, but only a little ^^ In the end I like him, he’s still a little daft as only men can be when it concerns woman *sigh*, but this makes him more adorable. Although, someone really should tell him the difference between a woman who enjoys it and a woman who’s fighting for her life…

      I hated Adam from the beginning. It started with the way he talked, although I’ve read several reviews on Goodreads who loved him and thought him as very funny. I’m obviously not one of them. It might be because I don’t like reading “historical English.” I really get a headache if I read something like that…

      Overall rating 4 hearts. I really liked reading the book, although it was a bit lengthy. However, the end made more than up to the boring middle part. I look forward to the rest of this series, although I don’t think I’ll be enjoying Adam’s book if he doesn’t change -.-

      As always Karen Marie Moning is a good storyteller and I fell headfirst into the story immediately. That in itself is something to be surprising for me as I am not a big fan of time travel but when the fae get involved and a handsome Laird, as well as a woman who doesn't complain about her lot too much are involved I seem to enjoy immensely. Really though, this book is filled with hunky mean and intelligent women, and a beautiful castle as well. What's not to love?

      James Douglas known as the Hawk, has never had a woman say "no" to his sexual advances. So the "Fae" plan to play with the Hawk and bring to him a woman that can and will say "no" to him and one with a fiery temper who will fight him on all angles. Adrienne De Simone lives in Seattle and having some pretty bad experiences with men in relationships, she avoids men that are handsome and charming like the plagues of Egypt. Adrienne has become a bit bitter, with due cause. So when she is taken back through time to Scotland in the 1500's. Where through a chain of events she finds herself married to the "Hawk". At first Adrienne resists his charm however as time continues and despite her ever searching for a way back to her own time, her heart hardened shell softens toward him as the passion between them rises. The desire that she feels for Hawk unsettles her in a way she has never before experienced and Adrienne yearns for his tender touch. James is a formidable warrior in both the battlefield and the bedroom however upon meeting his new bride he comes across a woman with a will to mathc his own. The battle is on...in the matters o flove...who will be the conquerer?I fully enjoyed this time travel romance, that takes you back to the medieval Scotland, and written by one of my favorite romance authors. The more that I read from Karen Marie Moning, the more I get excited about reading her other books, since the ones that I have read so far have been outstanding, as this one was as well. Adrienne, has been hurt, but when she is thrown back in time, she has to face a future and a life with a man that she both fears and desires. The Hawk is definitely an Alpha rake, a seducer of women, no matter their reservations. However when she becomes married to him, he knows that she is unlike any other woman he has met and he knows that there is something peculiar about it, and he wants to find out what that is. Its a enchanting love story that brings two souls together with a little twist that will keep you on the edge

      ** DNF **Well I struggled through this to chapter 20 but once Grimm started lecturing Adrienne about "poor" Hawk and how he hard the "poor" f-ing lord of the keep had it because he couldn't put he p3nis in her and how cruel she was because of that I'm out. I'm out, I'm out, I'm out! No more. I've put up for 20 chapters with Adrienne's on again off again behavior, the stupidity of all of the characters which is only used as a plot device to string the "drama" along, the cringe worthy make out scenes and this is the straw that broke the camels back. No more!

      Synopsis:
      Laird of Dalkeith, Hawk Douglas’s reputation with the ladies is the stuff of legend even in the land of the fae. A modern-day woman transported back in time to Medieval Scotland by a vengeful fairy, Adrienne is coerced into marriage to Hawk but swears that she will never again be tempted by a beautiful man. Can Hawk convince her of his love or will she deny him forever?

      Review:
      Time travel romances have never been a favorite of mine as they are often resolved unsatisfactorily with the heroine returning to her own time and falling in love with a descendent of the hero merely because he happens to look like his ancestor (seriously?!)
      Thankfully, this does not happen here. The time travel element of the story plays a very small role and is handled intelligently with a satisfying ending.

      The fae world is another engaging aspect of the book. While it is not the focus of the plot, which is more of a historical than a paranormal romance, the fae serve as a catalyst for the main events in the story. Much of the focus is on Adam Black, a trickster character very reminiscent of Puck from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While not a particularly likeable or sympathetic character, he is intriguing and apparently gets his own book later in the series. It should be very entertaining to see him get what he deserves.

      The relationship between Ari and Hawk is the highlight of the book. Their verbal sparring and banter is simply wonderful. It is particularly interesting to read a book in which the hero falls in love first and must convince the heroine that he is worthy of her. Hawk is noble and honorable when he could so easily be an arrogant ass. Adrienne is a strong character but she can be annoying at times with her prejudice toward good-looking men and her inability to see just how much Hawk loves her. Nevertheless, once she gives her heart, the romance improves greatly.

      The main problem with the book is that a number of secondary conflicts are established but never resolved such as Ari's past in New Orleans, Hawk's relationship with Olivia and the things he was forced to do for King James.

      Overall, a well-written book with an interesting premise and I will be continuing with the series.

      The story was good. Though sometimes I wished she would just give in already, but it worked out well. This was a 2nd reading of this for me. I recently finished Moning's "Fever" series and during that I kept thinking that I should re-read this series. I think I was hoping for better as I know some of the other books in this series do deliver that.

      This was a DNF for me. All the crazy of the Fever series, with far worse dialogue and not as well developed setting. Like Mac this main character made choices that qualified her as Too Stupid To Live (TSTL) and the brooding male hero couldn't kiss it out of her.

      I needed some light fluff to fill the Outlander void (how many years till the next one comes out? Way too many!). This fit the bill. It's certainly no Outlander, and I usually don't go for the romance genre, but it's just this side of sappy, not too overwhelming, and an enjoyable read.

      I believe this is the first book in this series. I loved them, Couldn't read them fast enough. Each book finds the characters from the previous books making brief appearances. Each character has his story told in the books. Wish she would write more of this series.

      I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 mainly because it did take me a bit to really get into the book. Once I got there though, I was hooked. I love Scottish romance first of all. I love the kilts, I love the brogue, and those Scots are oh so passionate! Both main characters in this book had such a sad and scary past that it's obvious to the reader they are meant for each other. Of course those pesky fae had to go muck things up. I love anything with Fairies too, so that boded well for this book. I also loved the little hint of a side romance going on, I thought it was very cute. I am hoping for a possibility of seeing more of Grimm in future books.

Her one and only serious relationship ended in tragedy and since she fled New Orleans, she has constantly looked over her shoulder and sworn off all beautiful men. The prettier the man the more dangerous and Adrienne has had enough danger to last her lifetime. Her resolute cry of no beautiful men is more than enough for Fae fool to whisk Adrienne away from her own time and place and drop her into an ancient time and into the life of a man known far and wide as the King’s whore. Hawk is no ordinary man; he is a laird, a fierce warrior, a loyal friend and son and, for the past 15 years, the King’s bitch. Knowing the Hawk’s “sentence” is coming to an end, the vengeful king’s final insult is to require Hawk marry a woman known to be crazy and nothing at all to look upon. The woman who shows up to the wedding is definitely something to look upon but her sanity is certainly questionable. When Adrienne shows up at the Hawk’s castle, he is pleasantly surprised though somewhat confused. Adrienne keeps talking about getting back to her own time and never succumbing to the charm and looks of the Hawk. Additionally, the Hawk often finds Adrienne in the company of the blacksmith, Adam, a man no one seems to know much about. Adrienne’s determination to stay away from the Hawk is matched by her new husband’s desire to make her his in every conceivable way and keep her the hell away from Adam. In little to no time, it is clear Adrienne’s life is being threatened and though she can’t believe it, the Hawk takes the threat seriously and makes every effort to protect her. Adrienne is initially resistant to the Hawk’s attempts to protect her and get close to her but his charm and stunning good looks are hard to resist. Little by little, Adrienne is drawn closer to the Hawk but for every step forward the couple takes they inevitably take two steps backward. Between the stubbornness of each, the craziness of their situation and, a little Fae involvement, Adrienne and Hawk are seemingly doomed.The Bottom Line: Beyond the Highland Mist is my first Karen Marie Moning book and I have to say, I wasn’t overly impressed. In many ways, this book is a viscous cycle that could be greatly improved with fewer revolutions. Adrienne and Hawk are, for much of the read, locked in pattern that becomes repetitive. At some point I found myself wondering if the book would ever come to an end On the less ranty and whiny side, I did like the Hawk, Grimm and Lydia and found each of them to be enjoyable and interesting characters. In the moments when these characters aren’t involved in one of the ridiculous revolutions, they are quite fun. Clearly, Moning isn’t finished with these three characters. As to the rest, I was glad to see everything work out in the end, I liked the Fae tie-in and, I can see potential in this series which leads me to the following . . . .onward and upward to book two, To Tame a Highland Warrior.

      This was part of a BOGO offer on Audible, and this was basically the free book I picked up. I've been thinking of reading Moning's Fever books, so I thought this would give me a taste. I would probably still read her Fever books, but this was too regular romance for me.It was a little formulaic ("I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I love you I'm so depressed we can't be together that I don't know how I'll live!!!), and I found the constant descriptions of everyone's physical beauty exhausting. I also hate "virgins" in romance novels. It was even worse here when I found out Adrienne was, because she was engaged to another guy that broke her heart, and the virgin thing sprang up later in the novel.And I just couldn't get into the characters. As nice a guy as Hawk was trying to be, it got a uncomfortably controlling in the second half of the book. Hawk started to get increasingly angry at Adrienne for wanting to leave, not wanting to be his wife, not loving him, et cetera, when all of this was forced on her. His guilt speeches about how she should be grateful, and how she should be a good wife, and how he could force himself on her but doesn't, really creeped me out. He also kept trapping her in the dark to try and physically seduce her, which I also thought was creepy.And... Adrienne was pretty unexciting. Just a poor girl that got used poorly by a bad man, then transported into 1500s Scotland. There's not much more to her than that. She did have a backbone, and tried to stand up and not get pushed around or swept away, but again, this got uncomfortable later when things were forced on her anyway.Not a good read. Or listen. I found the narrator's female voices slightly offensive.

      AMAZING! Loved the characters, storytelling, setting and plot. There were many times throughout the book where I actually didn't know how things were going to end and when something outrageous happened it was exhilarating. This is my kind of book. Definitely going to read on. :)

      I liked the book alot in that it kept you locked to the story. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because it was infuriating the back and forth between Adrienne and Hawk. I mean come on already!! But other than that the book does not dissapoint. I have read all of the fever series and decided to try her Highland series. Can't wait to read the other books!

      I am going to be honest, I enjoyed this book primarily because it was exactly what I was in the mood for. The story was not outstanding, character were sometimes one-dimensional, and the writing not the best(and do not get me started on the historical inaccuracies), but I really felt the need for a simple romance where everything works out in the end between a beautiful woman and a handsome man, and this novel certainly delivered. I'm up in the air about the rest of the series, since judging from reviews I'd have to wait til the third or fourth book before things really got good, but I will certainly keep them in mind the next time I need a little romance.

      I honestly don't particularly like any of the characters in this book. Lydia and Tavis are cute, and then Grimm is pretty cool. And honestly, Adam Black is pretty interesting. But Adrienne and Hawk... meh. Couldn't get into their love. Sorry.First of all, I don't see how Adrienee could continue loving Hawk after all his efforts to make her love him. This is a prime example of lust versus love.I've been told that this series gets better and better and ends up really cool, so I'm looking forward to the later books in the series. But Beyond The Highland Mist doesn't really do anything for me. Heavy on the romance and lust, not so heavy on the actual love and plot.

      This book is everything paranormal romance should be, complete with throbbing everything :) I couldn't give it a 5 because of the mess of geography the author made. I wonder did the author look at a map of Ireland and Scotland? Or that the sidhe queen's name is pronounced 'evil' (well ee-veel?) nice irony :)
