Paula Danziger
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in New York, Paula Danziger knew since second grade that she wanted to be a writer. Beginning her career as a teacher, Danziger taught at the junior high, high school, college levels. She received her Masters Degree in reading and during that time she wrote her first bestselling novel, The Cat Ate My Gymsuit. She returned to teaching, but the success of her book encouraged her to become a full-time writer. It was non-stop for Danziger since then. Among her titles are: the enormously popular Amber Brown books as well as Remember Me To Harold Square, The Divorce Express, and Can You Sue Your Parents For Malpractice? Danziger received numerous honors, including: Parent's Choice Awards, International Reading Association - Children's Book Council Awards, a IRA-CBC Children's Choice Award and many nominations for state reading and library association awards. Known as a flamboyantly funny and deeply honest writer and speaker, Paula Danziger knew how to relate to young readers at their level. She was vital, funny, and compassionate. She knew how kids felt, what made them laugh, what they wore, collected, read, and played with. From collecting novelty toys that would make any teacher cringe, to wearing jangly earrings, funky glasses and shoes covered with beads and sequins, Paula Danziger had a direct line into kids' hearts and funnybones. She will be missed always. In Paula's memory, The Amber Brown Fund has been established to bring authors and illustrators to schools and libraries which otherwise could not afford them. Donations may be sent to The Amber Brown Fund/ SCBWI Museum of Children’s Books, 8271 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don't remember the other books having Amber talk so much like a wise school counselor. She really does know the right thing to do and say all too easily. Brandi definitely talks with more maturity than any 4th-grader I know. But that's ok - this is still funny, and valuable, and enjoyable.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Cute. Recommended for fans of Junie B. and Ramona.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The reason why I gave this book a five is because I really enjoyed reading this book, and also I can relate to Amber Brown because when I was her age I had to go through similar things she went through. I was just like Amber, when I move to a new school and grade I had to make a new friend and that was very hard. This book is about Amber Brown going to the fourth grade and she had to make a new friend because her friend Justin has moved away. Amber Brwon had to face situations such as having to make a new best friend, dealing with snotty girls, and facing her parents going through a divorce. All of these situations students or children that are in your classroom may experiences or face. This book can be use in the classroom setting by letting the students in the class write there own stories and also teach them about what protagonist because Amber Brown is a good example because she is the main character in the book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Amber starts fourth grade. Her best friend, Justin, has moved away and she needs to make a new friend. Also, her mom has begun dating again after her divorce from Amber's father.Danziger draws a neat parallel between the two situations. Amber learns that making a new friend doesn't mean you love your other friend less. Also, it might be okay for Amber's mom to have a new friend, too. As long as it doesn't get TOO serious. Gee, I wonder what might happen in the next book...?
